One layer in the problem useful to understand is a group behavior. For example vendetta in some European countries: one has to kill as it is a community norm and the consequences for him will be very negative if he does not. He will be thrown out of the community. People who spread disinformation and deception represent actually a group. When Obama speaks he does not represent his own opinion or truth, the same with political commentators and comedians. Politicians mostly do not lie; they just are not telling the truth. They are chosen and paid for not telling the truth or express their personal stand. They are paid to say certain things, and they are well aware of it. As soon as they commit offense and tell as things are, they will be not chosen for a job any more. In some cases taking certain position and hammering it (e.g. Ann Coulter) just makes you a lot of money. It is an ethics issue for sure, but when being unethical pays well most people fall. Colbert is no exception, he spins the facts according to his masters agenda.
So, the point is, the society is structured and divided based on different combinations of lies and deceptions. It is a norm. Everybody who wants a public job needs to choose, calculate his chances and join the pack.

Who needs to look it up...there are three "American" sports Baseball(what could be more American?),Basketball(thank you Dr.Naismith and your peach basket) and Football,the nearest approximation of warfare a 100 by 40 yard field will allow...now you are of course aware how much we like warfare? Aren't you ?

Someone should point out to Pirate ownership that they are allowed to put some of that money out on the field.....either that are petition for triple A status....'cause they aren't cutting it in "the show".

They are known for taking raw talent at cheap prices, training them, then trading them for big money. Its how they operate.
