I have never liked the whole, "just following orders" line of reasoning.

No fruit ice cream. Just ones with chocolate.

Tell him what's going on with me. Don't obey if it's going to cause me problems and impact the relationship. Talk to him first so he can prevent the problems which is a lot better than trying to fix them.
