When you think about it, it how cool is that that you could sing your protest to the President and not get arrested (I realize they paid to get in). Imagine this happening in N Korea?

Can we try this traitor please, and then shoot him?*

Actually, putting him at the same table with other soldiers, and silverware might save us the cost of that. He's going to miss those Marines.

*note for those who don't pay much attention; this is a reference to Manning.

Song lyrics, as provided to the Wall Street Journal:

Dear Mr. President, we honor you today, sir

Each of us brought you $5,000

It takes a lot of Benjamins to run a campaign

I paid my dues, where’s our change?

We’ll vote for you in 2012, yes that’s true

Look at the Republicans — what else can we do?

Even though we don’t know if we’ll retain our liberties

In what you seem content to call a free society

Yes, it’s true that Terry Jones is legally free

To burn a people’s holy book in shameful effigy

But at another location in this country

Alone in a 6×12 cell sits Bradley

23 hours a day is night

The 5th and 8th Amendments say this kind of thing ain’t right

We paid our dues, where’s our change?

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, even when it is awfully expensive!

I find myself having little sympathy for the man. Suicide watch?

quote:

WASHINGTON — The lawyer for a jailed soldier suspected of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks wrote Saturday that his client was stripped of his clothing at night because he had made sarcastic comments about using underwear to commit suicide.

See what sarcasm can get ya?

/sarcasm

The man gave up secrets, not to his own country, not to someone with a vested interest in this country, but to someone unknown to him on the internet.

And now he wants to cry because the government he betrayed doesnt treat him in the manner he decides he should be entitled too?

Just what was in Wikileaks anyway ? Things that endangered national security ? Or was it things that endangered politicians' immunity from scrutiny ?

Really, I never saw the thing. What kind of shit was in it ?

-Footage that caused an uproar about two reporters being killed from US helicopter gunfire.

-Diplomatic communication from Saudi Arabia (or Yemen?) telling the US to take down Qadhaffi.

-Confirmation of the US's stated efforts to tell N Korea to lighten up on their Human Rights abuses. The private communication was much more forceful than the public statements.

- US Senior military personnel voicing concern over the capability of Afghans and Iraqis able to defend themselves when the US pulls out.

I feel the US needs to act in keeping with our STATED human rights goals. I don't think mistreating Manning is a good idea. That said, as a service member he took an oath that he broke by leaking that mother lode of CLASSIFIED documents. It is not for a 22 year old to arbitrarily decide what needs to be classified and what does not. I'm not crying too many tears over widdle Bwadley. He's a(n alleged) traitor.

I haven't noticed it mentioned anywhere on the boards, but he is being moved or has been moved from Qauntico to Ft Leavenworth.

A few other Wikileaks nuggets -

- China calling N Korea's Kim Jung Il (sp?) a spoiled child.

- Other diplomatic cables between our allies and the US that should have stayed confidential.

The thing about the leaks is, how secure are other countries going to be about telling the US secrets, only to get them published on-line?

Leavenworth is considered the country clud of prisons.

The complaints is that he gets only an hour a day to move around. Under 24 hour lockdown, thats all any prisoner gets. He decided to be "funny" by making comments related to killing himself. Suicide watch isnt a joke, they stripped him of his clothes when he joked about using the elastic in his underware to kill himself. He was not naked... he had non shredable sheets and a gown he could not rip.

I have no sympathy for a smart ass punk. He wanted to come across as a sarcastic shit.... and they treated him in the legal ways available to them. You would think his lawyer would have given him the advice of.... "you fucked up, now just shut up and let me work"

LOL ,that`s a good point.

Folks forget how creepy anal-control-freaky the bushies were with their public events. There`s no doubt at all that he would have been arrested at a bush event,no matter how much money was payed.

They wouldn`t have finished the 1st bar before being dragged out.It wouldn`t have matted if it was Laura herself singing....LOL

I think it was classy, calming and well,...democratic, how the President handled it.

The folks who wonder why they weren`t arrested don`t know about those things or even have those qualities on their radar, let alone appreciate them. They`re miffed.

I've found it's best to keep as few secrets as possible, but sometimes you have no choice.

But then put it in perspective with a certain government official who blew an undercover agent's cover a couple years back. Anyone remember that ?

Oh boss, the planes, the planes!!!

I know it doesn't mean much, everybody makes spelling mistakes,  but it is Valerie Plame and her dear old sainted mother would like that name treated with some respeck.

I think this is treasonable too. Poor Scooter took one for the team like the TX Bush supporter took buckshot in the face. Same shooter both times!!

Yeah. I remember that. Dirty politics, and "fuck me, no fuck you." In no imaginable way is it in the same league with Manning's treason. I can only assume you are trying to pander to ignorant partisan players for some reason, by even bringing it up on the same thread.

I think both incidents were traitorous. As far as which is worse - 1) an idealistic 22 yo that thinks he's whistle-blowing or 2) blowing a CIA agent's cover in a fit of pique because "Her hubby won't let us go to war".

Which is more cynical and black-hearted, you tell me??

It was much much worse actually. By revealing Plame's status Rove compromised every CIA agent that had Brewster Jennings & Associates on their resume. Also the release of Plame's status endangered everyone she had contact with in hostile nations, some of which were certainly US assets.

The CIA rightfully refuses to discuss how many agents and assets were compromised and/or killed due to Rove's action but it was certainly more than 1.

Manning. No question. No doubt. No comparison.

Not true, I don't even know who was President at the time because I don't commit useless knowledge to memory.
