Here's what I wrote about it a while back, hlen.
quote:

We're in a group in real life... let's say ... a book club.

We like almost all the people in the club. We have interesting conversations, have a good time together, find intriguing conversations, laugh alot, trade recipes, discuss serious issues, help each other in times of need, celebrate each other's joys.

That's how close the members of the book club become. And we're happy to bring new members in. They prove themselves. And the book club is all the better for these new folks.

And then the one fellow that we all kind of groan over decides to have a little... Sunday brunch. Everyone is invited!

We hem, and we haw and, we try to decide if we want to go to brunch.. at HIS place. *Sigh* We know he can't cook. We know he's gonna make inappropriate comments. But hey - the book club! We enjoy the other members of our club! We like getting together! And now this brunch. What to do?

We ignore the invitation for awhile. Read it, ignore it. And then... One person says, "Hey I'm going, and I'll bring my famous Belgian waffles." Now how can we resist those Belgian waffles? So then the next person says, "I like those Belgian waffles. I'll bring mimosas," and the next person brings fruit salad or whatever.

So we all go to the brunch, mostly ignoring the host who is acting in typical jerkish fashion, and we have a good time with each other. We drink our mimosas, eat our waffles, feed each other strawberries, and we all have a raucous good time.

Meanwhile, the host of this here brunch puts out a box of Generic Corn Flakes for us all to enjoy. We smile, ignore them, and reach for the gorgeous spinach and feta omelete on the next table. Realizing he is being ignored, the host tries to enter into our conversations but sticks his foot in his mouth over and over again. We continue to ignore him, get another mimosa, laugh some more and still have a raucous good time. And then we go our merry ways.... wasn't it fun to talk to all those great book club members? And ohhh when is that host gonna learn? We don't like corn flakes! Oh well.

A bit later someone else decides to have another book club brunch, and everyone is invited. "OOOoooo YAY! I like so and so. What a great time we'll have!" We all make our fancy foods, enjoy each other's company, feed each other pear slices, and in comes old faithful with his box of Generic Corn Flakes. We smile, put them in a bowl, and continue on our merry way. Sometimes we even whisper about how stale the corn flakes are.

In the end, we are all part of the book club. It doesn't matter who is giving the luncheon. It is an opportunity for us all to get together. It is the company that is important, not the host. Even when the host makes a mess of things, we make it cheery.

Best,
sunshine

You are so adorable. Just remember, the grouchylunchladies always have big knives.

And the southern wimmens always have firearms.

Wanna settle this with a game of Boggle?

I have an edge over them.

You know what that is?

Backflips.

Shouldn't we bring FukinTroll into this discussion?

Personally, I guessl I'm kinda like a cat with a field mouse. Bat it around a few times before ya kill it.

I want it to go beyond just a bunch of random newcomers though.  We should have well-known posters going off on eachother.  In fact, I'm calling YOU out right now!  Let's fight.  Battle me.  Challenge me.

Thank you for your kind offer, but I respectfully decline. Arguing for the sake of it is just tragic.

In any case, I don't think I qualify as "well-known". "Well-worn", maybe, but not well-known.

PS: Where's FukkinTroll these days? He about? Or busy a-slurpin?

I think he realized that I am the new sensation sweeping the nation!  He must have respectfully bowed out and allowed me, the NEW role-model, to take center stage!

That's a little like comparing chalk with cheese. You're not the same sort of thing.

At all.

I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I merely mean you're not at all like him.

I enjoy destroying topics and ruining any meaningful discussion.

And you have done it so often that you are ignored by the vast majority of posters.   Only those who enjoy quips respond to you and you have become an irrelevant side discussion.

Sadistic glee.

Seriously, if they are good at it, it is fun to watch people make fools of themselves. It is especially fun if they are extra crazy.

I'm with LaT.

We should all come to terms that I am the natural successor to the throne.  I may be the most charismatic man I know, and I know Katy Perry.

I revitalize topics.  Most of this stuff can get tedious, I inject new life into it!  My goal by the end of my tenure on this site is to make every topic about me.

I am trying to decide which post gets the *WIN* here: sunny's book club analogy or Termy's "troll manual"..
Both so cleverly rendered, each in it's own unique and enjoyable style..

Nope, can't decide, I'll take them both for $500, Alex..

Yanno, it's sad that some trolls have nothing better to do, nor yet to brag about in their own sad little corners of reality, other than how much they enjoy the smallness and negativity they endorse and love to inflict.
Perhaps someday, those trolls will grow up to be actual people with something of value to contribute and be in life.. but I'm not holding my breath. Blue just isn't my color.

Peace and love, y'all. It causes less indigestion.

LP,

Busted!! In my OP I acknowledged my culpability too! I think it was already 40 some pages when I egged everybody on.

The "As the Collar Turns and Changes (ATCTAC??)" thread is light-hearted and fun for everyone, I think!!

Seriously though, after page 10, does anyone think that the OP is going to see the light?

Oh, it wasn't to bust you.  I was just amazed that it actually went that far.  Of course, the last four or five posts were only posts that the OP had put up to hit that 1,000 mark.  Still, an accomplishment.  LOL.

These boards need more heavy-hitting like that last topic.  That was fantastic.  I could eat dinner and read that and I eat dinner at a dinner table.

Not from the low blow theory, but some of the best debates that I have around this place can be with some of the folks that I enjoy discussing things with the most.  If you want to see a real pissing match, watch for SimplyMichael and Myself discuss the leather community.  ResidentSadist and I have had some darn good terminology discussions.  Leadership and I have had a few on M/s.  I can't remember how many pages Merc and I went at each other over the word "doormat".

I have to admit, I prefer those.  Poking random trolls with sticks is just too easy.

Not that I won't do it for fun.........
