On another thread a poster implied that liberals attempt to limit people's freedom of religion.

The poster said that liberals believe freedom of religion means freedom from religion.

I say that is close, but with one minor change. I propose that freedom of religion requires freedom from imposed religion.

What are the views of members here? Do you feel your religious freedom is hampered or protected by policy? How can our religious freedom best be protected. And where should we draw the line? Does the religious view of the majority trump the right to religious views of the minority?

That same poster made this statement

"And if leftists here had their way, judging by their hateful remarks about anyone who dares disagree with them, there would be no Democracy here and there would be vast purges as there were when millions and millions and millions of people were liquidated  under the Soviets and the Communist Chinese and the Communist Vietnamese etc."

I wouldn't be to quick to take anything they say seriously.

I did NOT say that.

Get it the hell correct if you are going to attempt snark. FFS!

Freedom of religion. . . this means that I can practice whatever and whenever.

Freedom FROM religion. . . means that there are elements of society that are blacking out religion because it may not be what they believe. Merry Christmas to Happy Holidays. Christmas break to Winter break. No manger scene in public school holiday winter programs. Merry Festivus. The three reindeer rule. The list goes on.

Here is the deal. . . You can believe what the hell ever you want. You can have a maypole or a bull slaughtering. This also means that you need to shut up about my manger scene on the lawn.

That is what freedom of religion means. Do what you will and you will leave mine alone.

Aylee,

My apology for how you took that.  It was not directed at anything you said or you in any way.

I believed the OP here took his thoughts from things that were said by the OP of the other thread who did say the above statement.

It was not meant as snark.  When someone starts sprouting that kind of lunacy there is no reason to take anything they say seriously.

The OP was likely referencing the freedom from religion comment elsewhere and explained again here above.

It means I'm free to practice what I want as long as I dont hurt anyone. Others are free to do likewise and I don't cram My beliefs down their throat. Likewise, I expect NOT to have other's beliefs crammed down Mine.

There are a lot of folks that have a hard time with that last sentence.

In my case, "freedom of religion" means having the freedom to choose not to practice religion.

Its simply reality. Leftists have already murdered millions and millions and millions in cold blood simply for disagreeing with them, and leftists today, here on these boards in fact, routinely demonize and treat those with whom they disagree (such as Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, etc etc etc) as subhumans worthy only of slaughter.

If the truth bothers you so much then I suggest you renounce your leftist religion.

I was setting the record straight in an issue that came up within this thread.

I was not commenting on the statement at all.

Sorry to have made you spit your kool-aid there.

So you would have no problem with a group of Arabs pulling out rugs at the airport and knelling on them to pray just before getting on your flight? lol

Or do you mean literally that freedom of religion is you get to practice whatever and whenever and others should be sensitive to your sensibilities?

Putting a manger scene in your yard is one thing, demaning the public school or courthose display ine is another thing.

Oh, horseshit.  Jaysus, how many sharks are you up to nowadays?

Anyway, back to the OP... IMHO, the "freedom from religion" aspect is "freedom from coercion", which covers official prayers at public schools, the workplace, etc.  Nothing keeps kids from having prayer groups after school, at recess, etc.  (other than people who don't know the regs) or people having optional Bible studies during lunch.

The "happy holidays" thing went way back before O'Reilly et al jumped on the "war on Christmas" theme.  Why not acknowledge that you have a whole variety of faiths involved that time of year?
