According to CNN, a source has said that the operation never was to capture Bin Laden, it was a kill mission from the start.

I'm entirely against the death penalty and assasinations, however someone far more anti-american than me suggested elsewhere and its quite true, that if he was being held in gitmo or somewhere like that, the number of kidnappings of western NGO workers would be massive. the only possible thing to do really.

Before we get all excited about the President and handing him too much credit - the people who actually FOUND Osama were likely the same people who have been looking for him for 10 years - our intelligence services and military. They deserve the greatest part of the credit. However...... In the end, President Obama had to make the decisions on how and when to act. He had to pull the string on taking BinLaden out. He showed me something I honestly did not think he had inside him. I was wrong about the man in that particular view which I held of him. He did the right thing. I applaud him for it as every American should do today, no matter what side of the political ledger you sit on, and it seems that is happening all over the country. So President Obama, thank you and a "well done". MC
