"the Forever War" or "Old Man's War" by Joe Haldeman.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" would be a good one too.

If they fuck it up like Starship Troopers, I'd be REALLY pissed.

I have such an emotional attachment to that book, I would actually be upset if someone tried to make a movie out of it.  I'd be afraid they'd miss the point.

Uller the Shyne!!!!!

This book by an obscure yet up and coming author just rocked my world.

Written by Wulfgar (link in my sig line) this character is the epitome of male, a dominant polygamous big meat hanging OMG I want to do this character in the worst way, hunk of male.

Um....where was I? Oh yes, this book is one of a series, all of which I'd love to see turned into an epic set of movies. They have everything, three worlds, nine moons, dragons, gorgeous women, demons, assassins, intrigue, intrigue, intrigue and some of the hottest sex, plain sex, group sex...did I say sex, you've ever seen.

Coming from this Wulfgar next (I saw on the website) is Vol the Outlaw. I can't wait.

I LOVE Harlan Coben!! ~Greedy

The only thing I *don't like about Coben is that sometimes he writes novels w/o Win !! WTF is up with *that*?

Have you read his latest, Live Wire? There's an hysterical mini subplot around Win's trysting with a pair of Asian beauties named Me and Yu. (The man has a sick sense of humor !!)

Speaking of a sick sense of humor, who on earth would manage to pull off playing Big Cindy ? Now that does boggle the mind !!

The Dragonriders of Pern series. [sm=couch.gif]  Yes, I'm that kind of geek.

(laughing) You are smart to hide behind that couch!

When I was 9 or 10 I loved hard sci-fi. But fantasy was difficult for me to get into, except for the King Arthur legend books. I forget what that series was called, but I remember its placement in the public library: to the right and a shelf or two above the Pern books (which I turned up my childish nose at--although, for all I know they were great stories--I just didn't like the synopses). When I became adult I grudgingly started to accept a little sword play and magic into my machine worlds. Did they ever make Zelazny's Amber series into movies? I think those would have been interesting to watch.

I would nominate a Laurell Hamilton Vampire novel, maybe Obsidian Butterfly (I love the ones with her scary psychopathic bounty-hunter friend, Edward--he's my idea of a hot date), but they couldn't make one of those that was true to the story without it getting a beyond NC-17 rating.

I agree with Da Chickie!  I have started reading "Uller" and it is awesome so far.

CreepyStalker -> RE: What books would you like to see made into TV shows or movies? (5/3/2011 7:37:22 PM)

Crap books, ones I'll never bother to read. Especially ones that have a nice idea behind them but are poorly written. Good books shouldn't be subjected to that.

I'm one of those pedantic bastards who gets annoyed when adaptations change really important and meaningful bits of plot into trivial bullshit. I maintain that if a book can't translate directly to film without simplification or embellishment, it has no business being a film.

The World of Time series, otherwise known as WoT

slave2k -> RE: What books would you like to see made into TV shows or movies? (5/3/2011 8:02:16 PM)

Well, how about The Kabbalah? They've made countless shows and movies about The Bible and i hear The Kabbalah has mystic secrets too.
So it would be a good choice for a movie or TV Documentary or who knows maybe a TV Series.

IrishMist -> RE: What books would you like to see made into TV shows or movies? (5/3/2011 8:24:23 PM)

I have to agree with a few and state that I would like to see none made into movies. The few movies I HAVE seen that have been made from books were horrible. For some reason, most 'book into movie' situations seem to lose alot in the transfer from one to the other.

On the other hand, the few movies I have seen BEFORE reading the book ended up the same way. I found that the book sucked after having seen the movie first.

Don't figure.

This is girly stuff, but the Outlander Series from Diane Gabaldon. Pretty hot stuff. Time travel romance. Please do not throw fruit at me.

My thoughts are more along these lines.

None. I never like movies made from books. The books are always better and the characters never look the way they look in my mind.

In fact I feel so strongly that Hollywood usually destroys a good
book that I started a thread about "Best Book into Worst Movie"

http://www.collarchat.com/m_1729003/mpage_1/tm.htm

I am afraid of what would happen to some of the best books
in this thread.
