DarkSteven -> Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/4/2011 10:13:37 PM)

So who will appreciate the Osama killing the most?  I contend that it's the folks that have blue collar leanings, that like guns, that are the "salt of the earth". The ones that have always been suspicious of Obama.  The rock-solid GOP demographic.

I wonder, if there's any chance for Obama to crack this group after killing OBL....  If he can peel some of them away permanently from the GOP, then the GOP is in deep trouble.

Right now, they're kinda confused.  I've read some comments that Obama really didn't do anything and was simply using the system that Bush provided him.  That somehow OBL's killing was really Bush's doing.  For example, Palin made a speech yesterday in Colorado in which she lauded the servicemen who carried out the task, and Bush for having fought terrorism, and pointedly omitted any mention of Obama.

I don;t think that Obama will get any love from this demographic.  He's black, he's educated at an Ivy League school, and his values don't mesh.  But they're gonna be confused for a while.

I heard somebody on MSNBC today say Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld have to defend their policies because when/if they travel to other countries they may be prosecuted. In fact, he said he expects them only to travel to Saudi Arabia and Israel.

First there was the pirates off Africa and now osama bin-gotten.All shot in the head(by the same SEAL team, btw)under President Obama`s orders.

Pretty gutzy and he got the job done.

Not bad for a Kenyan......[;)]

I like guns. Am I the salt of the Earth? Fantastic! I don't see any differance in the world with his demise.

Seen that picture from the Situation Room, Steve? All of a sudden, I wanna play poker with him.

Killing OBL could be forgotten in few months. Also, not providing any verifiable evidence leaves the whole thing hanging in the air. Most people today do not trust what the government says. It is predicted Obama has no problem getting the second term. The system is rigged, and GOP will have just another Bob Dole moment. The only game changer could be some kind of catastrophic event (e.g. hyperinflation).

Interesting topic.I do wonder if at least a few of the blue collar, gun loving crowd will at least give Obama some credit for this.I wasn't always the biggest fan of former President George Bush. However,I would give him credit when he did something write.I didn't agree with the 2nd Iraq war.I feel it took Americas focus off of Osama bib Laden. That said, the world is a better place without Saddam Hussien. The things he did to his own people were terrible.George Bush deserves credit for removing Saddam. In all fairness, both Bill Clinton and George Bush were trying to get Osama.this issue is way beyond the normal partisan nonsense.I am sure any President would have been glad to finish Osama off.I wouldn't care who the President is.It did fall under Obamas watch and he deserves some credit for that.Of course the Navy Seals are the ones who really deserve the credit for this.

I think the fact that Palin is a complete idiot is not a secret, now if OBL's killing really was just Obama answering the phone, you gotta wonder why Bush had so much time, couldn't he have answered the phone? On the other hand, imagine it would have all gone horribly wrong and the mission would have failed because one of the servicemen would have cocked up, Palin would be the first one to put the blame on Obama's door because he's in charge... Funny that, but then what do you expect from somebody who thinks abstinence works, apart from in her own family, who stabs the guy in the back who made her running mate, who reads "all the papers" but can't name a specific one, etc. Maybe she's still confused because she's trying to figure out if she's for the bridge or against it, or how to explain that her husband is so patriotic that he wants a separation of Alaska from the United States...

One thing I really like about Obama is that he doesn't point out all the time that he inherited a mess and that the previous administration caused the deficit, he gets things done.

Btw have you seen Mahler's take on the whole thing? Not always a fan of him but this interview was pure gold!

Additionally, now Palin criticizes Obama for not releasing Bin Laden's picture with the bullet wound, anybody with half a brain would figure that it would do no good, Obama said from the start that he won't do it as there is nothing to gain from it and it would only endanger troops and civilians around the world, apparently Palin doesn't care much for the lives of her fellow Americans...

Latest thing I saw on the news was that Obama is going to Ground Zero and put down a wreath there now that Bin Laden is dead, he invited Bush Jr. to come along - he declined....

LadyConstanze -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 1:27:07 AM)

Charles, yes Saddam was a criminal and a terrible dictator, but the war was not about that, the war was started because the Bush admin claimed they had WOMD, oddly those have never been found, so it was a war started with a lie. Now do you think Bush would have cared how Saddam treated his citizens if there wouldn't have been anything to gain from the war? I doubt that very much...

DomYngBlk -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 5:01:10 AM)

I think the real effect is the blunting of things that a Republican Candidate can lob at Obama or any other Democrat running next year. Safety, Security, and Military issues are sort of off the table. If you are republican what would you say......That he should have sent even more troops into Afghanistan? Boots on the ground in Libya? Their candidate is going to be left with fighting the battle over economics and social policy......They never win that debate.

There is no way they can win on social policy.  That leaves economics.  The Dems should release something saying:

Cost of invading Afghanistan to get Osama bin Laden: $$XXX trillion and XX American lives.

Cost of sending a SEAL team to get Osama bin Laden: $1 million and no American lives.

Democrats.  Using your tax dollars right.

Sanity -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 6:31:44 AM)

Joe six pack probably still doesnt like the fact that the Obama administration court martialed a Navy Seal for giving a terrorist a fat lip, how Obama and his fellow Dems talked so much smack about the war on terror (overseas contingency operation) and now Obama claims to be the guy who personally pulled the trigger on Osama after all the years of teamwork that went into finding him and killing him... or how Obama is pushing regime change in Libya, after his world apology tour.

Or how Obama laughs at people who are struggling on account of rising fuel prices, and he and his his fed chairman shrugs off the tanking dollar and smirks about the deficit

mnottertail -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 6:36:28 AM)

Joe six pack should understand basic law, joe six pack should understand the constitution, joe six pack should research facts and deal in reason and logic, but he doesn't.

Joe six pack should investigate the facts of who put us in this financial mess, instead of chirping some crap of neo-con tinfoiler blogs.

Joe six pack should understand that the world does not want us exporting our particular brand of enlightenment at the end of a gun, or with nefarious means to every corner of the globe, but his memory wanes as St. Wrinklemeats did.

Did you listen to his speech?

ArizonaBossMan -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 6:41:13 AM)

Dear Leader is the bestest military mind ever in the USA. Better than Patton, I tell ya. We will have holidays named for him. Lots. of course, everything done to get osama was what he campaigned against, BUT NO MATTER! It's all good until the muslim street doesn't like it. Then we will pander to them again. Apologize! Now that is what he naturally must do. Go on another apology tour! Wooo haaaa! Let the good times roll, muchachos!

Musicmystery -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 6:44:03 AM)

See, if you have to invent a position to which to respond, it doesn't give much weight to your response.

Four words....

September 11th, tenth anniversary.

President Obama won`t have to say any words. All he`s gotta do is show up.

That`s pretty close to Nov. 2.[:D]

Sanity -> RE: Cracking the ironclad GOP demographic. (5/5/2011 6:48:34 AM)

So you are admitting that to the Dems, at least to certain Dems... this is all about politics.

Thank you
