So leftists are happy that the housing market continues to plummet, because on paper it makes food and energy inflation seem insignificant...

He is a reminder of just how far the Republican party has strayed from its ideals in the Goldwater days.  Before the Ralph Reeds and Karl Roves and Rupert Murdochs of the world worked their black magic.

I do, however, think the world is a little more complex than his 1776 government playbook says it is.

Status: offline 		So your happy with a housing bubble that forces prices to the point where average people can't afford to buy a home in the area they live.  This leads to people using risky mortgages with ridicules ARMs just to get into a house hoping something good will happen before the increases.

This leading to the disaster that follows when the bubble burst because of over the top pricing and failure of borrowers to meet the increase in payments.

That about sum it up?

This is a side show, RP has no chance of being nominated much less elected president.

If instead of inflation, you said the cost to run a household had risen 10% due to increases in oil and food prices, I could agree (aside from that you made up the percentage of increase, but yes, they've risen and it makes an impact).

Trying not to date myself but when I was 1st buying gas to cut lawns with as a teen,a gal. was 35 cents.

In other words inflation happens.And will always happen.Even Ron Paul can`t make that go away or claim to be able to.

I dunno. War and empire-wise, I agree.  Financially, tho,the last decade happened because we cut the 'good' financial regs.  We apparently could not make the distinction between good and bad regs when operating the trimmer.

The last decade was the Ayn Rand doctrine at its finest. Just ask her disciple, Greenspan.

You're as bad as the rest of them on this.

A price increase in a single good is not (necessarily) inflation.

When I was a kid, gas was 25 cents. In 2010 dollars, that's $1.85.

Inflation accounts for $1.60 of today's price. Supply, demand, cartels, politics and taxes account for the rest.

Inflation in our monetary system is caused almost exclusively by speculation (via paper) in commodities. Core inflation in the US has otherwise been very reasonable. To the extent the feds would tax paper profits, would proportionally dampen inflation by a very large margin.

But Ron Paul like all of the others, would much prefer...to stay alive.

Again, no.

First, monetary inflation is quite low.

Speculation in commodities is spiking particularly food and oil prices. That's not the same as inflation.

Doesn't anyone take Economics 101 anymore?
