Countrywide was the dominant player in writing bogus paper about which the 'left' could do nothing.

When the right go on their normal corrupt ways...there is no stopping them. This points out how for the right, it is all about going after the left and not their own scum.

Futures contracts allow farmers to plant without taking huge economic risks, passing that risk to the speculator, one in a position presumably to better take that risk by spreading investment over many areas.

No, it doesn't. Farming is vulnerable to a host of weather and pest problems, several of which can cripple a year's crop.

A futures contract allows the farmer a workable price, guaranteed, giving him a reason to take out that loan and plant.

Now that part is true. It's why I favor regulation.

Not really fictitious, though, as they'd simply get burned in the market. But when, like now, investors are looking for potential high-returns as alternatives to the stock market, demand does drive up prices.

Prices can also fall...burning the speculators.
