Well, finding any real proof might take some doing, but it seems to me that someone who will refuse a loan would also refuse a gift. Maybe that doesn't make sense anymore but it used to. Some folks wouldn't take favors from strangers, but apparently most of that type have died out. Their reasons were simple, we are too proud to take charity from anyone but our oun kin (which includes chosen family) and some people have strings attached to those favors, and we would rather not owe anyone.

What possible course of thinking could you express that would make it anywhere near plausible that somenoe who would not take loans would take gifts ? It doesn't sound like someone who gives away eye surgery for free, and Rand Paul does, or did. Some people have a moral fiber within them that makes them want to give rather than take.

Very few people can understand that these days, to be sure.

"Healthcare and related industry comprise 17.3% of the GDP. "

Yeah, and it's pushing the same pile of money around. We spend it on ourselves, like a Cheech and Chong movie. Chong has a new job selling weed. Cheech asks him how's business. Chong replies "Good, sold two lids today" Cheech ask " To who ? ", Chong replies "To myself".

LOL... fantasy world

Because, if they didnt take any, he would have specifically spelled that out. Instead, he specifically said "federal" student loans.

States issue licences.

You know, I thought Rand Paul was completely full of crap... until I read this.

You want to go down that road, Owner, you had best be prepared for taxpayers to at least offer free medical school in exchange for the services provided.

Any speech Rand Paul completes is now always regarded as "a great speech".... Personally, I want this guy tested for opiates and hallucinogens.

Why not the ability to write off a years worth of student loans and such for a year worth of service?

Nope they suck it right up, and often double bill it.

All so they can afford the increasing costs of their country club and pay lobbyists to teach Rand Paul new sentences.

The good news is that with the passing of Owsley Stanley, the LSD these neo-cons are gobbling will now eventually runt out and maybe just maybe, we'll stop hearing them blathering on about socialism.

No can do, unless you want the whole monetary-economic system to collapse. Healthcare and related industry comprise 17.3% of the GDP.

What we really need is a lot more sick and dying people to help the system stay afloat a while longer! So everyone... more stress, more worry! Eat more chemical and hormone-laden foods! Breathe more polluted air! Focus on symptoms instead of causes! Pay close attention to conventional medicine, and use drugs and surgery at every opportunity! Listen to our politicians and our mainstream media, they're our friends! Suck up to the corporatocracy! Support more wars! Play the game! Get those noses to the grindstone! Jump through those hoops! Let's buy more crap we don't need so we can strip more natural resources, and add even more garbage to the landfills! Remember, Madison Avenue says that life is about gratifying our egos! The guy with the most toys wins!!!

Come on now... let's do it for the flag and our free country! If we all work together, we can prevent this system from collapsing for a while longer!

Sounds like a wonderful idea, McDonald's is hiring!!

65,000 jobs opened up and over 1 million people applied, we are on the road to prosperity.

1 million people apply for 65,000 jobs to flip burgers

LOL...

Maybe Chong understood that the system forces us to feed off of each other, and merely decided to take a shortcut...

Know what ? You have impelled me to interest. Considering what the senior Paul thinks about credit it is actually possible. Now I  have to figure out how to find out. Now mind you that privately funded grants and scholarships are not included in this. Only federal.

Is it possible that all his tax records are available now that he is a senator ? I don't think so. But then maybe who knows ? Perhaps the college(s) records are public, at least when it comes to income. Actually, don't you think there should be a record of any federally funded gifts of any kind ? Maybe there is somewhere. I'll have to give this some thought.

But now, not to decrease this issue there is another point. Public or private, nobody give grants or scholarships to anyone without academeic merit. If Rand Paul did take such public money he has certainly tried to pay it forward or something like that by giving away free eye surgery. In fact I was thinking of finding out about that before mine. Oh yes, I'll admit that I am not ready for complete freedon either.

But we are to hold him to a higher standard, so be it. He has given freely, and the fact that he would not like to be conscripted is no surprise. That's a given. Now did he take any federal money or not ? I do not intend to go through 90,000 pages of CAFRs for this. But think of this, if he got fifty grand, that's what, a hundred or so cataract operations ? ( hey, what about any other politician while we're at it ? )

In this case even your strongest assertions are not accusations, except for the first one. And again. not to detract from the point, just so you know : I already knew how to read and do basic math before kindergarden, I tutored math in grade school at no charge. Later I worked for the A/V departement at Lakewood HS in Ohio for a very meager check, running movies, splicing tapes and films and repairing and maintaining the A/V equipment. I was under the direction of Dale Komives and it counted for occupational work experience. The money didn't amount to even as much as I bummed off my Parents. And for the tutoring I didn't even get extra credit.

As such. who owes me ?

See, now that is a really good idea! I think that such an arrangement would encourage more students to consider medical school. A bit like the GI Bill, but with service due after the education.

There was a show called Northern Exposure that was based on exactly that, I wonder if it ever really happened or it was total fantasy. Could've happened somewhere but in this case I believe the plot was that the state of Alaska di it.

Yes, that's the spirit! Eat at McDonald's every day too. You help prop up the system in two ways. You'll support the fast food industry now. And later in life, assuming the current system is still ticking... the health care industry will feed big time off of you!

I always held out hope for such a program. X amount of hours for X amount of loan dollars. Would take up the slack of communityhealth care and help out the Drs after they graduate.

Why? I took a scholarship from a hospital that I had to pay back. Do you think all the money the hospitals give to students are privately funded?

So GM gets a federal loan, they pay for apprentiships.(sp)

If you want to continue this line of discussion let's either start a thread or take it to mail. Personally after a point I got tired of giving and started taking, I admit it. But when you see your Father's paycheck of $790 and he only takes home $400, fukum.

Fukum. But see I don't want to go further than that in here. You want to start the thread or should I ? I think it might be an interesting topic, but Rand Paul is the topic here.

I considered medical school. I had the grades, the aptitude and my SAT scores were up to snuff for pre med. The high cost was one of the main reasons that I chose another major. While in school, I earned certifications in both EMS and medical HazMat because I was very interested in emergency medicine.

Had a 'school for services' program been available, I might have chosen differently.
