I will say again, just because someone runs for some political position on the socialist ticket in France does not make him a socialist. His involvement in the IMF negates any socialist cred he may have on the global stage. France may have many socialist programs (which are currently being watered down even by factions within the socialist party, read up on it and you will find that out), but that does not mean when it comes to French economic interests he is a socialist... he aint!

This is something you do quite often, if someone you perceive as a leftist does something that you think will discredit liberal ideology, you have to make sure you mention it. There is no reason to throw in the crack about this so-called socialist spending 3k on a room other than to make hay over it. If it wasn't important to you, it wouldn't have even crossed your mind. This is the political section julia, when political figures say or do unsavory things sometimes their affiliations get mentioned here. And why are you getting so worked up over my mentioning the alleged rapists $3000.00 dollar per night hotel suite?

Its all fair game.

Try to get used to the fact that it works both ways and you might not suffer nearly so much angst...

You've just gotta lurve Sanity! What the quote actually said was that he was on the 'right wing' of the 'centre-left' ["He belongs to the right wing of the PS (which is on the center-left of French politics)."]. There are a multitude of leftist positions between Strauss-Kahn and the French Communist Party and even further left. All that places him pretty close to the centre of the spectrum of French politics.

Or, if you prefer, on that silly chart that someone posted earlier in the thread, somewhere between Pope Benedict and Angela Merkel, the Conservative (right wing) German PM. So he's about as radically socialist as a Baptist Convention in Little Rock. His approximate American equivalent would be a right-wing Democrat or leftist Republican (how can any one tell one from the other?)

By all means Sanity, rant away about things you obviously know nothing about (like just about anything beyond the shores of the US of A). It's clearly something you enjoy doing frequently.
