No they're not: they're evil shits who eat people, however flouncy, sparkly or gothy they happen to be.

I'd say that you don't understand what scientific proof is. Tobacco companies had scientist on their payroll that claimed there was no correlation between cigarette smoking and cancer. Does that mean it was scientifically proved? No it does not.

You can say anything you wish. "scientific proof" was placed in quotation marks for a reason.

And your tobacco example is perfect. For decades those companies did a song and danc with their "scientific proof" all the while knowing and hiding the truth.

At the time before Civil Rights, these "scientific proofs" were being passed around as "science". Then another "scientific proof" came along to discount those.... then another set came around to discount those...

Science doesnt have the answers, it keeps changing its "mind", its theories keep changing, new discoveries discount old. And yet you insist that people should "trust" in science and only that. Science is so full of infighting ...lol... No proof, therefore it doesnt exist. I might believe that .... but, just like science, I might not.

I also noticed you didnt address scientific racism. Interesting.

I did address scientific racism. That's what the tobacco company scientist example was about. How did you not get that?

Anyway, my main point is that believing in the supernatural is slowly going the way of the dinosaur. You can believe that there is a spirit that lives in everything and some day you will be part of that spirit (whatever that means) if it makes you FEEL better. Or, you can believe that a being lives in the sky, I don't care. The more people are educated, and the more their thinking evolves, less and less people have the need to hold on to stone age concepts of how the world works.

Big tobacco was employing scientific racism? I gotta here how!

Hmmm.. so we no longer should believe in dinosaurs either?

The tobacco company was practicing biased science. The segregation crowd was practicing biased science.

Lesson 2 - The dinosaurs went extinct. Believing in the supernatural is going extinct.

I can't make it any clearer than that. You really should have been able to put it together on your own.

Massive difference between marketing ploys and scientific racism... Tobacco companies targeted everyone, just in different ways.

I'm trying to figure out when being an atheist meant someone could not believe in things like vampires or an afterlife? After all, atheism excludes the belief in god or gods... it says nothing about vampires, werewolves, or even an afterlife.

lol.... nothing I have looked up on line in reference to modern day vampires claim they are undead either.

Guess some people are still living in the dark ages with the dinosaurs.

The dinosaurs were around during the dark ages? That's a new one.

LOL.. avoidance... you try to be good at that.

About as new as atheists being required not to believe in an afterlife. Or that religions are slowly losing their... how did you put it?

Hmmm... Education levels are rising... that is true. People are becoming more intellectual, again, true.

Question is.. what is the correlation between the rising levels of education and the rise in atheism? Citations would be great!

Avoidance of what? Did you make a valid point about something?

Mostly because there's a heavily catholic (or Greek orthodox if you're east european) slant to most of the folklore about both.
Just check out the list of stuff that could cause vampirism before Stoker retconned the cannon...

tazzygirl -> RE: Stephen Hawking: There is no heaven; it's a fairy story (5/19/2011 4:28:41 PM)

And Buddhism?

I mean, come on, you fells can split hairs all day long. The fact is that atheism has never once stated you cannot believe in an afterlife, or anything else... just that god or gods dont exist.

So, to state that someone believes in an afterlife is delusional, or that someone believes in vampires is delusional, is wrong in both cases. Buddists do believe in reincarnation, they do not recognize the belief in god or gods.

What my whole point here has been about is that some people charge in proclaiming this or that to be true, and this or that to be false, based upon nothing more than their own ignorance, never bothering to get to know the facts, never once opening their minds to even the possibility. Just as close minded as you fellas accuse religion of being.

Oh yeah, I would want to avoid that because it is so fucking stupid that it's beyond belief.

OK, I chose the vampire example because I thought that most intelligent people in the 21st century would not believe in vampires. I never thought that I would have to have a debate about the existence of vampires! You can't be this obtuse.

Give me some facts and I will consider them.

Where is the proof that you have given? I'll go back and read it.
