Too lazy for that, if somebody clearly is an idiot, I just press ignore, I mean why should I waste my time reading stuff from somebody I think is mentally a bit deficient?

IRL you wouldn't have a conversation with somebody who you think is clearly insane or just an idiot, so why do it here? It's a waste of time.

Well, that's mostly true, but every now and then (once in a blue moon sort of thing), you find these incredibly entertaining idiots and nuts. THEN it's worth taking the time and making the effort to converse with them. Finding those gems in the dross of your everday idiots and nuts, though, well, that's the really hard part.

Lately I have come across a few posts on this board regarding us regulars, and how we twist things, or how we are snarky, etc. This is not a new concept. I have often seen this over the years I have been posting here, people who come on, do a driveby posting about how flawed this board is (meaning those of us who contribute here) and then they fly away. Sometimes they post repeatedly, other times they depart, never to be heard from again.

For those of you who are "regulars" ( I guess you know who you are), do you feel responsible for the overall content of this board? If you have been posting on here for years, do you think this somehow makes your words have more gravity, and therefore you need to be more careful in how you post?

For those who have not been posting here for very long, do you look at the date someone joined and their number of posts when you reply to them? If someone has been around for awhile, has a high post count, etc, does this cause you to think that they somehow have more pull around here, and and you read their posts as being more representative of what you find on this side overall?

Briefly, just a smattering of my own ideas on this topic.... there are some of us that are real douchebags who have been around for awhile. While I am even fond of some of these people, that doesn't make them less repulsive when you first encounter them[:D] (as for you douchebags, you know who you are). I just never thought that an entire community would be judged by the opinions of a few, which seems to happen here.

Another thing, I am not saying anyone should care if others like us or not, I am just wondering what other people think when they come across a post that condemns the "regulars" on this board... or if they have any thoughts at all about it (and i am bored waiting for the pest guy to show up).

I don't think I am responsible for the overall content of the board. How can I be? I am responsible for what I type. I tend to pay more attention to some people's posts than others, b/c over time I have come to respect what they say (or not).

I really don't care how long someone has been posting. There are a wide variety of opinions presented on pretty much any topic you come up with. That's what I think is representative.

Who judges an entire community on the opinions of a few? Whiners, that's who. If they sod off b/c they got a poor reception, frankly, I'm glad. Less whining to slog through.

This forum is like any other (virtual) community of people: there's the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have read some marvelous posts by some people I would love to meet in person if I got the chance. I have also read some...bull crappy. It's what you get in a large group like this. If you can't handle it, go back to FL where you can start you own group and be your own moderator. (BTW: I think the moderation here is marvelous !!)

I do at times see a newbie has been treated badly for a minor faux pas. I try to cut the new people some slack, unless they are whiners, megalomaniacs, or creep me out (some are all three, that would be the *ugly ugly*).

I also *try* to avoid getting into a pissing match with someone who just wants to vent, or be right no matter what, and doesn't really want to converse. Which is why I do wish the P & R forum could be a bit more even handed, but it is what it is. Participate at your own risk.

In the long run, I think certain message boards suit certain people's styles of communication. Those of use who post here regularly get something out of it. For me, it's entertainment (live theater at it's best), education, a chance to (perhaps) help another, and a nice way to socialize with other kinky types.

Why the need to stalk me and insult me? It isn't like you define me or anything, but I am curious as to why you do this.

True, sometimes it's a lot of fun, but they aren't always entertaining or droll, when they're just plainly stupid and annoying it's the mighty click.

Jules,

I am stalking you cuz I thought you actually might have had a 'tail' pic up, and I was most interested in getting a look at it, for purely disgusting reasons, I assure you.

Why he's doing it, remains a mystery.

I have too, but I have also seen "regulars" defend such newbies. That is why I asked if there is some collective responsibility for what gets posted here.... just because someone who has been here for a long time is rude, doesn't mean that the entire board has been

I must want you huh?

Is this your new warcry? Why do you stalk me!!!(with your clenched fist held toward the sky)

People disagree with you..I happen to disagree with  you probably more than most.

You're trying the antagonist gig for a bit..It's cool but you're going to get burnt on occasion when you're trying to light fires.

You say stupid shit like a few others around here..I'm here for those people in their time of need. Come give me a hug.

NuevaVida -> RE: You Bad "Regulars"... You know who you are! (5/19/2011 11:45:44 AM)

I think the more a person posts, the more you can tell where they're coming from. You have the jokesters, the antagonizers, the deep thinkers, the happy folks, the unhappy folks, the open or closed minded ones, and so on. After awhile you get an overall feel of where people are coming from.

In a group setting, this can create an overall group "theme" or, as Kana said, meme. I see "thinking trends" from time to time - some resonate within me and others I just don't relate to.

But I think newcomers come here and see these trends and I suppose it could be a bit off-putting, particularly if the majority is in disagreement with them! I think some people stay and find their place in the crowd and others decide this isn't the place for them. I have experienced that myself over at FetLife. Some groups just dont offer the thinking that I relate to and others do.

It's all good. As for me I just post what's in my head (which can be a scary place sometimes!) and that's where my responsibility lies - am I posting my own truth? If not, I've got a problem. If so, then all is well in my world. While I don't agree with what everyone posts out there, I do enjoy the overall experience here. The sum of all parts works for me.

As for number of posts, I don't think anyone is wiser or more knowledgeable if they have a high posting count, but I think we understand that person more and have a comfort level that we don't have with a newcomer. It reminds me of when I went to a series of "discussion dinners" - everyone knew each other and I was this unknown person with opinions that differed from the overall group. It was not a warm reception!! But they didn't know my personality or anything about me, so to them I had no credibility. Their skepticism was totally understandable. It just takes time and respecting my "place" as a newcomer, and learning who THEY are. I think newcomers overlook the benefits of doing that, and receive negative results because of it. Some of those folks don't handle that well and lash out, thus creating even worse results.

juliaoceania -> RE: You Bad "Regulars"... You know who you are! (5/19/2011 11:48:43 AM)

I do not think you have any desire for me, and I am not the only one that you have done this to....

You disagree with my questioning about how other people perceive "regulars" on here, and whether or not we have a collective responsibility for each other? Well, sue me for wanting to know what other people thought about it... maybe in fact changing my own view in the process.

It is one thing to disagree with someone... it is another thing to harass them, look for any excuse to call them names, etc etc etc... perhaps you do not know the difference between civil disagreement, and going after people personally... that is your issue and not mine

I have had that experience at fetlife too, and to be honest, most of the fetlife groups can become very insular because they only want a certain type of person posting here. Part of what I like about CM is that I do not get to choose who engages here, and that makes for a more lively and diverse discussion...

See I don't think it's really about people disagreeing with them..That's what people tell themselves for various reason.. "Oh, he/she couldn't handle it because I didn't say what they wanted to hear"...I believe it's much more HOW someone disagrees.

Not everyone is going to take things as a joke and or react like you think they should because you feel they should. Hey, snarky is who I am!! So fuck them if they don't like it. Personally I think it boils down to attitudes mainly. People see that as well..They also may see it when they are snarky back and others join in with support of a regular.

Something to think about possibly when you're about to blast someone..though I know mentally, many will dismiss it.

One thing begets another. I know this.

I dont read most of what yall write for different reasons. That tiny font interspersed in the quote, certain posters, that whole two, three peeps going baaaack and fooorrrrth, for paaaages" ...You suck, you interpreted me wrong, you suck, no you suck, prove it! That is not proof, prove it is not proof, I know more words than you...where is the link?... There are certain posters I love to see post. Some dont post at all anymore but sometimes I see at least one of them present time to time. Certain have left and I could not be happier because I did not like the stuff they said.

I think thinking we are responsible for the threads is ludicrous.

I do look at when folks joined and I remember when I was new I was very nervous to "get flamed" or something. I have said some stuff that I actually had removed (thanks Mods) because it was waaayyy too tmi and other times I have been shocked by someone's response to me and vice versa. I have learned a lot here on CM, and when I felt I wasnt learning anymore and feeling sick of it all I didnt post for awhile. I have been posting lately and there are some folks I am glad are still posting too.

You mean like the term douchebag? Now I know your defense..You never specifically called anyone that but the fact that your using it and implying it instead of coming out and saying it point blank doesn't mean a thing differently to me other than you pretend to be civil while you harbor incivility in your heart.

That which you proclaim to be is rarely what is seen. My take on Taoism.[:D]

I prefer truthful feelings being expressed over false pretenses of.

I've seen people kicked out of groups there for consistently not following group rules but anyone can join. But each group has it's own flavor there. Just like here. There are times I don't post here as often because the flavor doesn't appeal to my frame of mind. I post more when it does.

Great point, about HOW something is disagreed with and attitude. I enjoy a healthy give and take dialogue of differing views. It's the contemptuous disagreements that turn me off - be it with regulars, newcomers, or both.

I do see what seems like regs beating up on newbs from time to time and it seriously turns me off.
