ORIGINAL: juliaoceania Lately I have come across a few posts on this board regarding us regulars, and how we twist things, or how we are snarky, etc. This is not a new concept. I have often seen this over the years I have been posting here, people who come on, do a driveby posting about how flawed this board is (meaning those of us who contribute here) and then they fly away. Sometimes they post repeatedly, other times they depart, never to be heard from again. For those of you who are "regulars" ( I guess you know who you are), do you feel responsible for the overall content of this board? If you have been posting on here for years, do you think this somehow makes your words have more gravity, and therefore you need to be more careful in how you post? For those who have not been posting here for very long, do you look at the date someone joined and their number of posts when you reply to them? If someone has been around for awhile, has a high post count, etc, does this cause you to think that they somehow have more pull around here, and and you read their posts as being more representative of what you find on this side overall? Briefly, just a smattering of my own ideas on this topic.... there are some of us that are real douchebags who have been around for awhile. While I am even fond of some of these people, that doesn't make them less repulsive when you first encounter them[:D] (as for you douchebags, you know who you are). I just never thought that an entire community would be judged by the opinions of a few, which seems to happen here. Another thing, I am not saying anyone should care if others like us or not, I am just wondering what other people think when they come across a post that condemns the "regulars" on this board... or if they have any thoughts at all about it (and i am bored waiting for the pest guy to show up). I don't think I am responsible for the overall content of the board. How can I be? I am responsible for what I type. I tend to pay more attention to some people's posts than others, b/c over time I have come to respect what they say (or not). I really don't care how long someone has been posting. There are a wide variety of opinions presented on pretty much any topic you come up with. That's what I think is representative. Who judges an entire community on the opinions of a few? Whiners, that's who. If they sod off b/c they got a poor reception, frankly, I'm glad. Less whining to slog through. This forum is like any other (virtual) community of people: there's the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have read some marvelous posts by some people I would love to meet in person if I got the chance. I have also read some...bull crappy. It's what you get in a large group like this. If you can't handle it, go back to FL where you can start you own group and be your own moderator. (BTW: I think the moderation here is marvelous !!) I do at times see a newbie has been treated badly for a minor faux pas. I try to cut the new people some slack, unless they are whiners, megalomaniacs, or creep me out (some are all three, that would be the *ugly ugly*). I also *try* to avoid getting into a pissing match with someone who just wants to vent, or be right no matter what, and doesn't really want to converse. Which is why I do wish the P & R forum could be a bit more even handed, but it is what it is. Participate at your own risk. In the long run, I think certain message boards suit certain people's styles of communication. Those of use who post here regularly get something out of it. For me, it's entertainment (live theater at it's best), education, a chance to (perhaps) help another, and a nice way to socialize with other kinky types.
