Well.... golly, the list!

Let me just say this - there are dozens of people from the boards that I've met. There are a few I call friends, and several that know me - the good, the bad, and the ugly. And I know that about them as well.

One of the things that I've been pleased about has been the number of people whom I've met that are family members of forum regulars. You know you are accepted when you get love letters from the FAMILY of your friends. Several people from the boards have met my family - and they've all fallen in lurve with each other.

There are a few folks - quite a few actually that I'd like to meet and break bread with - you know who you are.

Over the years, I've crushed on two men in particular. Both of them touched my heart because of the way they treat their women. Cuffkinks and SimplyMichael were both men that you can tell are MEN. I"ve been honored to meet both of them. Michael - I think we argued all night, but it was that kind where you are laughing in the midst of the argument and it's a jolly good time. Cuffkinks - well... what can I say? He's like having a brother who will pat you on the back and kick your ass at the same time. These two men have set a standard in my mind.

The folks over in Europe need to watch out! I think I'll be visiting in the next year! Actually I've talked with several of the folks there via phone and hope to meet several of them some day.

In 15 years I'm going to marry Lushy's son.

Best,
sunshine

I'm not going to do a list, because surely I will forget someone, but I have found that people I have met from the forums are the way I expect, only more so.  Some people are only funny in print, because they have time to think of something witty to say, but in person, not so much.  The forum peeps I have met are the opposite of that... with conversation in real time, it is even more of a rolicking good time.

I was talking to someone at my office the other day, discussing the history of the Calibirthday, how I flew to Florida and stayed at CJ's place with Greedy and Tulip without ever having met any of them in real life, and picked up Lushy and Hib at the airport under the same circumstances, and how we all spent an extended weekend together (and I spent a week at CJ's).  How they gave me a pearl and diamond necklace for my birthday.  How Sundowner compiled a birthday card of wishes from people from the forums that I had never met.  How we went back the next year and had a bigger crowd join us.  How Hib and I went back the following year and toned it down a bit and had a smaller crowd.  How we're going back again this year.

The person I was talking to kept asking, "and you had never met this people? They were just from a discussion board online?  People you had never met bought you a pearl and diamond necklace????"

Yes, they did.  Because they're themselves, only moreso.

Cali

I've gotten that from people when I tell them about Vegas, Cali. "Really? You just went to Vegas and spent the weekend with a bunch of people you only knew from online??" Yup, I did... and I'd do it again, too.

To the OP- Pretty much what Cali said. I've met some from the other side that weren't quite the way they seemed, but those from the forums have all been like they are here, only more so.

Oh My gosh.  The whole list?  I don't know if I have the strength.  It's over two hundred and counting now, if you want to consider folks who used to post here, but don't anymore.  That's not even taking into account people that I've just talked to on the phone and such.

Rough estimate I would put at 98% and that's probably conservative.  In the reverse, I've had one person who thought that I would be different when we met in person.  She said that she thought I would be more "formal".

Make that two. i way WAY intimidated to meet LadyPact. But she was more friendly and gregarious, and less formal, than i imagined. That probably has much more to do with my own insecurities, and less to do with her personality. Yes, i'm kind of silly like that.

In general, people are nicer and less judgemental than i imagined them. i know this sounds stupid, but it's like meeting real people. i think, when i first started posting, i was seeing people as caricatures of themselves, or something.

I've met a few people from CM but only one of them posts with regularity.  The rest are on the other side but don't post on the boards.  Fae is much quieter in person.  Fraterthor is the same as he is here.  Hopefully, he'll start posting more because he's entertaining.  Bubbles, or whatever she's going by these days (LundFamily/Pommedemonsang), is exactly the same.  Take that any way you like.

QFT

i have GAD and PTSD. i am quiet but will pop out something here and there. Yet mostly i communicate nonverbally. Talking is a last resort when there is no other way to express myself. Online i am more likely to share my thoughts. Just because i'm not talking doesn't mean i'm not thinking.

Syl and Spyder, the Unseelie Court, they are rare exceptions for me, they are "awake". They see the world for what is. They don't accept "standards" without questioning and understanding them. i feel like there is someone looking back at me when i look at them, when there are so many people i see that look dead on the inside. Syl is beautiful in form and exciting in her thoughts. Spyder is slow to speak, as am i. When he does speak, it tends to be to share a fun and witty insight.

Fraterthor, is my brother by love, and fellow member of the Misanthropic Commune. He and his mate are also in the selective "awake" people that compose my inner circle.

Chaos, my Master, doesn't post often. We have been together 11 years and there's deffinately a reason.

i've been happy with some of the non-posting members of CM that i've met as well.

Joining the "you did what?" contingency.

"You invited a bunch of people you don't know to stay at your house?"

Yup, I did, and they came in from all over the country during a short window when I would be there.

Not only did I meet up with some amazing people (I had met some of them previously), but we had gift exchanges, made dinner together (assembled I really ought to say), and had share your talent day! The beautiful singing, the reading, the sharing of stories... It was amazing! (and flirting, did I mention flirting?)

I shared a bed with BitaTruble - that was enjoyable lol.    I've hung out with her on several occasions, and "Himself" took us out to a nice dinner last year. I've had the pleasure of dining with Cali on night, who is hilarious.  I met Jeff & Carol (Leadership), SimplyMichael, and a former poster who doesn't come here anymore. Briefly met Merc & beth at Folsom Street one year, when I went with Bita.  I'm good friends with some folks I met on the other side...and I've gabbed on the phone with a few others from here.

For the most part, people have been who they seem, only even cooler in person.  Only one poster I talked on the phone with for a time, as well as a woman I met from the other side, turned into over the top psychos, so I'd say the batting average is pretty good.

The batting average? Baseball metaphors?

Do you know what you should have used instead? Foooooooosball ones.

Thanks everyone. So the general consensus seems to be that people from the forums are mostly as they seem, but people from the other side are more variable.

And that Lady Pact is an informal softie IRL.

That isn't stupid at all.  That might be the most profound realization anyone can have about dating kinky, and being kinky.  I remember when I didn't understand that either, and I see people on the boards who don't understand it, every single day.

See?  I told you it was going to be ok.  I'm not nearly as scary when I've been dripping wax on people for a couple of hours.  I'm far too busy having fun to really frighten anyone.  Well, when I'm in *fun* mode anyway.

Hoy, I object! I said a few things to you in dead seriousness. One of those was about my favourite time . . . which I stand by.

I have met several at the Calibirthday a couple of years ago, and they were pretty much just as advertised.  thornhappy (now outhere), lushy, Gwynvyd, hejira, poenkitn, BlkPhnx, sagefaerie, NaplesDomme, kneelforAnne, (now ForgetmeKnot), mdc, MOGa, and the one and only GreedyTop.

Aside from that I've met switch2please. And the lovely belle_soumise.

I haven't met anyone from this forum though i can tell you what people have said about me. I am much more "silly" in real life. My writing tends to be a bit cold and detached apparently.

It seems to me that I've met hundreds, but I know that's a slight exaggeration. I have difficulty in social situations, I'm much more comfortable online. So when I made arrangements to go to Florida to meet the multitudes, DaddysRedHead had to keep talking me into it, nearly daily. Finally I decided that none of y'all are real people, you're just pixels. And I'd even convinced myself that I would get there & nobody would show up at the airport to meet me because, after all, pixels can't get drivers' licenses.

And that's where I met most of you folks. And I had the bestest time!!! Miss Sunshine was my roomie extraordinaire. And I got the same thing from friends & family about going all the way to Florida to hang out with strangers. They all thought I'd lost what little mind remained. Since then, I've met more. I've made lasting friendships with the people I've met from the boards. And some have become family.

I think that most of the people I know are very much like I expected them to be, very positive funny silly people. Only a couple of them were people I didn't want to have in my life.

And I'm now living in Lushy's basement. I'd wanted to live in Chicagoland for years & now I get to. And her son is amazing!!!
