You really have to ask that after we elected the current president based almost completely on his racial make up?

I didn't vote for the man based on the color of his skin.

Can some conservatives on here tell me again about how liberals are making up stories of racism?

Mr. Obama's race never really was an issue to me. His intellect, education, and perspective on a host of topics actually did. Given the 'current' President we had at the time, I figured it would be good to have someone that actually knew what was written *IN* the US Constitution. Being that he's a Constitutional Lawyer/Schollar, I figured he would know the subject pretty well. His choice of VP seemed logical given the political elements of the Democratic party at the time.

Actually if you use an ancient Aztec cypher, it gives the winning lottery numbers for the next five years.

The tax burden has been shifting to the middle class for decades. When Eisenhower was POTUS,the the top rates were 50%.Roughly,the richest 5% payed half the bill with upper, middle and working classes paying the rest.

So the fairtax does not shift something that has already been shifted with the current tax system. A system that politicians use to gain support only.

quote:

As taxes were cut(and federal budets increased) on the top earners and on corporations, the difference has been shifted to the middle class.Along with srinking wages, lost benifits and higher medical costs, the middle class is getting poorer and poorer while Wall Street seems to be doing pretty good.

I agree with this, and with a change in tax system those that spend more, will be taxed more, so the wealthy that want their luxuries will pay more taxes.

quote:

All republicans want to do is cut taxes for the rich and corporite America even more, along with cutting the regulations that make sure bussinesses are honest (and look what that got us),while cutting middle/working class programs.

I believe all politicians want to gain support from different sectors of corporate America. This is why I want to see corporate money out of the campaign coffers.

quote:

It was the middle class that got ripped off in '08'.The middle class bailed out the thieves and now are asked by the party in power to take in the neck again.

Undoubtedly. Middle class America lost a huge amount in some of the few things they had lots of value in, one of which was their homes.

quote:

No one in either party seems to wants to talk about our military budget either. When is that budget going to face scrutiny?

I actually was just speaking to some neighbors about this, since we spend an amount that is equal to the entire rest of the world. It would need to be done gradually so that as we downsize, those troops do not just become part of the unemployed. It needs to be done though, and real soon.

Already do, a number of states have an additional tax on items perceived as Luxuty Items.
I had to pay a gas guzzler tax on my car, a luxury tax because of the cost being above the threshold they think makes it lauxury.
I have paid it on jewelry, on real estate etc. etc. There are higher ad valorem taxes as well paid on vehicles above a certain dollar amount. It isn't universal, but you can bet that if I buy something big it is always in effect in the state I make the purchase in!

Why was Churchill booted from office in his 1st election after winning WWII?

I believe the conventional view is that the conservative party got the UK into WW2 in the first place. He was personally popular, but his party less so.

What conventional view? Conventional in 60s San Francisco which you travelled in a time machine from? Its a stupid thing to say and certainly not "conventional". Chamberlin was the conservative leader and is well known for trying desperately to avoid conflict. Hitler made his intent known when he invaded Poland and Britain had no choice but to declare war as Hitler was pursuing an expansionist policy. Next you'll be pretending the UK started WW2. He wasn't booted out of office, he just wasn't re-elected. There was a certain optimism and desire for social change after the war that an expert like you should also know about. Churchill was seen as a heroic war leader but not one that could make changes.

he was more of a man than you or myself will ever be

Actually, if you want to say anyone is more of a man than you are, I am okay with that.
But walk a mile in my shoes before you mouth off about me pal. Have you been raising two kids alone facing some pretty heavy opposition at times? PROBABLY NOT... this is just the beginning of this list.
But pulllllease spare me the "The historical figure I spank it too is superhuman" horseshit.
My picture's in my profile and YOU for all intents and purposes don'rt exist on any credible level

Seriously dude do you think I give a fuck about the opinion of an individual like yourself? You started talking shit bout me on another thread and weirdly kept bitching bout an Israeli article being lies even thought it was shown to be true by the stance Netanyhu took. I have no need to look at your profile as you have revealed yourself to be what you are. Whats all this about profiles and credibility? Its stupid. Does yours list your name, address, personal history. Mines down as I'm not seeking and plenty of people don't have them up. Words are the only thing that matters. You're the one to rush to judgement and if you talk and think like this in real life then you are in no way 1/2 the man Churchill was. I actually said I didn't agree with all his opinions but my response is more irritation at a fool pissing on someone who should be regarded as a hero even to a clueless peace-nik.

I agree with the luxury tax as well. In a system where you pay more taxes, based on how much you spend, then those that have more to spend will pay more taxes. I perceive some tweaks needed to that system, such as a higher tax rate on luxury items for the fed tax.

Now where I would like to see a change is how the tax would effect the purchase of stocks. Doubt that will happen since Wall Street controls much of the political environment.

One of the things that would help is the area of pre-owned homes, since they are not new there would be no tax on them.

Herman Cain 2012

For several years we have been listening to derelicts like Jimmuh Carter and Bill Cosby tell us that the reason we don't like Obama is simply because he is black and that we are racists. Enter Herman Cain. I like this guy a lot (and I have been listening to Herman via radio for years). Carter and Cosby owe me (and probably many others) an apology. Idiots.

The majority of the people out here are pretty dumb.

You have been listening to him for years? Really?...Really?...Really?

You joined in 2009. By your own words you have been listening to this douchebag before you joined CM and yet up until this very moment you haven't brought up his name a single time out here?

Seems kind of fishy.

You might be crazy, you are definitely a liar and you wonder why no one on the forums wants to meet you?

I have not been very impressed with a candidate or President since I started voting. Things seem to change, but not much ever does. Herman Cain is no exception.

Are you talking about selling a home, because I'm sure you realize there is a $250k exemption for a single homeowner and double that depending on tax filing status.

Funny I remember things being considered racist attacks when people said things like I disagree with him cause I think he is too far left.

I see this claim all over the place. I am glad you brought it up. Since you "remember" it happening to you in the way you describe, then I am sure you can provide a link to such an incident where you said sometime in the past Obama, or anyone for that matter was merely "too far left" for you and you were called a racist. Hell if that were the case, I am sure I wouldn't be the only person to defend the fact that you aren't acting in a racist fashion.
Lead the way, I would love to see an example

The conventional view offered in the historical texts I have read. What was the slogan "Toast Churchill vote Liberal (or labor maybe)" you'll look up I'm sure.
You really are a fucking idiot aren't you. 1)I have a 30 year personal investment in the culture you imply I know nothing about. So ya know, I was out there several times with my family during a time when my oldest sister attended Berkley and lived in the Haight, I started seeing shows in 73 and in the years that ensued, MET all the principals, and was even quite friendly with a few.
Certainly a lot more familiar with any knowledge of the events than you have of your hero Churchill. I took history in college and world war 2 was covered just like many other topics. How you got a goddamned couple of paragraphs for a simple answer. He didn't ask do you think Churchill lost the first election after ww2 for a fair resson. I didn't even imply he did get the UK into the war or even that there was a choice you fucking moron. What I said was WHY they voted him out. And made no claim to whether that was just or not.
The questioner asked WHY he was voted out.
Oh look, here's another guy who apparently read the same thing when he was in school.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_did_winston_churchill_lose_the_1945_election

And this fellow here agrees at least as one facet of his thesis:

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055648966

And you got this fucked over my pointing out a so[called new article smacked of propaganda, yet lacked what a REAL NEWS OUTLET WOULD REQUIRE AS A CONDITION TO PUBLICATION (namely WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE?) the article only cites these mysterious sources.  And you went on the attack and stalked me through every thread you could find me in over that, gawd buddy, that's pretty fucking unbalanced. have you sought psychiatric help?
Maybe you can take YOU'RE time machine (you know, the one that actually takes you back to before you were even born to visit Churchill), and this time take it all the way back to Freud.

Stern Skipper, I'll reply to your post briefly and drop the topic as I reckon others object to these thread derails.

It was da Labour party. The old Liberal/Whig party had become almost non-existant as a political force by 1945.

I didn't imply you knew little about the hippie movement. Quite the opposite.

No you said the conservative party got the UK into the war, which implies there was a choice, and Owner asked why he was "booted out". I didn't think you made a claim if it was good or not either. In fact for an apparent "hero" of mine, it was probably good that there was a term and a hlaf of Labour government as they brought in the NHS service.

You misunderstand. I got pissed cuze you got pretty vicious for no real reason when talking to Julia, saying that I was a liar and you alluded to it on here as well. The article wasn't that important but was right to point it out. I have seen quite a few articles by reputable news sources where ministers and advisers talk on condition of anonymity. I didn't stalk you. If I remember right I only posted on two other threads you were posting on already, this and the thread you started on Bibi.
