Sorry, but it just doesn't get any funnier than that.

Yes, it does.

We had a guy in Cleveland I think who shot himself about four times, supposedly cleaning the gun.

Lovemuffin, I've said more than once that HIPPA rules should be rewritten to link medical records to the instant background checks. Because as it stands now if one lies when filling out the forms there is no absolute way to verify any mental history. However, even "anti-gunners" are afraid of this because it might set a precedent that crosses over bar individuals from holding certain jobs.

FWIW, I am a firearms expert and have consulted to manufacturers.

If one is really trully concerned about deaths, then maybe obese people should be banned.

A guy shot himself in the foot. Isn't that what happens to you, every time you get ahead of the talking points emails?

Guns are tools to make living things dead. They need to be properly handled. Gun safety a very reasonable subject to address, but nowhere near a "flip side" to the right to bear arms.

I seem to recall the OTHER thread to which Owner59 is mocking, that 10 out of 10 'pro-firearm' folks basically state that guns are a RIGHT, not 'tools to make living things dead'. O59 is basically bring up an all to real and ugly side of firearm ownership: suicide. Since there is no requirement of anyone to get a mental or emotional health evalutation before obtaining a firearm (or getting re-evaluted every few years), it could be said that the reason for the sidearm isn't just for self defense or target shooting. I believe the statistics put men at the greatest risk of using firearms for suicide. No one puts down on their application for usage "To Kill Myself".

Likewise, most 'pro-firearm' folks wouldn't know what depression, or its symptoms, in order to realize their friend didnt get that firearm to be 'one of the guys' but has a severe cast of depression. The tragedy that soon follows can be even more devistating. Ironic that when I hear posters preach (yes, preach) gun safety, they are only talking of a tiny understanding of that safety. You NEVER give a loaded gun to anyone (duh). You NEVER give a loaded gun, to a depressed person (assuming you know they have a diaginos medical condtion). And you NEVER give a firearm to such an individual in which the ammo is easily had (i.e. firing range).

In one case, a man is now serving a manslaughter, 2nd degree term because he gave such a weapon to a depressed friend and said "I dont think you would do it". Her reply? "I'm going to do it, and your going to watch me!"

People shot themselves accidently all the time. That happens. But if a person was making an attempt on their life, backs out at the last milisecond, they might still injure themselves. Most people are terribly afraid to admit how the accident took place. Takes a lot of courage and willpower to admit it at that point.

Should someone get a mental/emotional health check before obtaining a firearm? Seems rather reasonable to me. Might have kept that kid from shooting everyone at that college two years ago. Might have also saved many others.

Well, I think you also have to count all the death and loss attributable to assholes filling people's heads with faux facts that make them afraid of being able to defend themselves.

How many hours of operation do you operate your firearm for? In a day? In a week? In a month? In a year?

Now compare those sets of numbers with: The number of hours for each question when using, operating, in, on, and in some cases, around a motor vehicle?

The number of hours a week that America uses, operates, is in, is on, and is around, is dramatically higher then the number of hours this same group (the American public) uses and operates a firearm. Doesnt it make sense to compare both things more correctly? People dont use motor vehicles for split seconds, which is exactly how firearms (at least modern day ones) are used (unless you go from Point A like Houston to Point B like Miami in a split second? (imagine the speeding ticket....) So which causes more deaths per hour Kirata?

This flip side to ownership rights should also get some attention.

Don't be silly and try and me you're seriously here to warn people about the dangers of dangerous things. People don't post in political forums to warn others about safety. You clearly have an agenda with your thread.

BTW, the title made me think this was going just an awkwardly titled thread about suicide.

I don't understand why people bitch about people getting shot with guns. That's what they're for. You want to fix something, fix the people.

In other parts of the country self-shooters deem it wise to stop after the first fatal or near fatal wounding. I guess in Cleveland they are more thourough

This is going to be tough for you, Jo. Take a deep breath, and get ready for a mental challenge. They are both.

Does the notion that something can be both a right, and a responsibility make smoke come out of your ears?

Almost as good as one many years back in Louisiana.

Dude had a knife sticking out the middle of his back and cause of death was ruled suicide.

I dunno about that: that Mary Jane Kelly really went to town with her suicide bid, after all.

And you took that quote totally out of context to make some point....

Here is the CORRECT Quote:

Thank you FOX News (The Heretic) for switching the evidence around and then passing it off as 'legit'. I never stated the 2nd Amendment refers to an individual right to firearm ownership.

So which causes more deaths per hour Kirata?

You're just concocting an excuse to support your own bias. First of all, a deaths per hour argument actually makes cars the more dangerous technology precisely because they're used so much. And that's without even mentioning that it's a seriously flawed statistic to start with, because it fails to take into account the traffic environment in which the car is used, the age and skill of the driver, the condition of the vehicle, and numerous other pertinent variables.

Another stupid post by someone who doesn't like guns.  Frankly, I don't know why people even respond this crap.  Ok...a guy accidentally shoots himself, another guy accidentally cuts off a few fingers with his table saw and another teenager takes a corner too fast is his brand new car that he got for Christmas and kills himself and three friends.  So what?  Tragedies happen.  You will never convince people like Focus or Joether or any of a number of these people that guns are a tool, they are a great deal of fun, they can save your life and if you are not responsible, they can end it pretty quickly too.  The best way to convince a gun-phobe about how much fun guns are is to take them shooting. I'll take Mnottertail shooting and...hell...I'll even give him a ten second head start. :)

I am a federal firearms dealer licensee. Besides the guns in my store I own about 10K worth personally. The sound you are hearing is the zipper on your bodybag.
