DarkSteven -> The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 1:03:39 PM)

Mitch Daniels, Christ Christie, Donald Trump, and Haley Barbour have officially announced they're out.

Huntsman, Cain, Gingrich are in, with Pawlenty and Romney obvious candidates in all but announcements.  Bachmann is likely, and Palin and Santorum may be.  I can't take anyone but Huntsman, Romney, and Pawlenty seriously, though.

hlen5 -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 1:05:55 PM)

I just saw that Iowan calling Newt an embarassment to the Rep. Party on "Washington This Week" this morning. Looooved it!

TheHeretic -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 1:36:45 PM)

I was disappointed to see that Mitch Daniels decided not to run. He'd have been a positive influence on the debate. Given the sort of campaign the Democrats are going to be running, it's hard to fault the guy for not wanting to put his family through it.

On the upside, Hunstman is saying sensible things about Afghanistan.

See Karl Rove, Willie Horton, the swift boat debacle, etc before you start talking about what kind of campaign the "democrats" run.

You would have to find an innocent side before you make that kind of statement about either.  Oh wait,  that's right, there is none.  They have all been equally disgusting.

Oh, the poor dear, I feel for him.

I know how awful those Democrats can be.

They made poor Sarah quit in the middle of her term.

Those bastards!

But Sarah has a fire in her belly.

Palin has enough 'fire in her belly' to run

Of course she will have to have a strong Vice President to take over when she breaks down in tears because the "gotcha" media is being mean to her.

samboct -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 3:18:15 PM)

She may have fire in her belly, but I don't think she's got 10 brain cells in her noggin...

What, you guys think Obama is going to run on the booming economy, and plentiful jobs? All he has is polarization and demonization. No matter how bad he is, a billion dollars will be spent making the Republican look evil.

And some of those spouting now will be carrying the water for that, every day.

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 3:29:13 PM)

Thats not fire, but it is treatable with a course of penicillin

flcouple2009 -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 3:44:03 PM)

I guess you are having a few memory problems,  speaking of polarization and demonization ever hear of Karl Rove?

But it is nice for you to erase things like Karl Rove, Willie Horton, etc from your mind.

Of course the Republicans aren't gonna do the same thing.  I guess you missed the point where I said they were both guilty of crap.

Realistically tho Rich, anyone that expects the economy /jobs to be booming, housing to be better and pre 2007 figures , their bubbles dont float to the top
with everything else going on
Demonization? Polarization
from the party of  NO and YOU LIE?
six of one and half a dozen of the other

nah that pretty much is 50-50

TheHeretic -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 4:01:26 PM)

Check out a couple years before Reagan's re-election landslide of 1984, Lucy. He took office with the economy in the toilet as well. Even though unemployment was still high, everybody knew it was morning in America, and an optimistic spirit carried him to a staggering victory.

Obama isn't going to have that working for him.

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 4:05:50 PM)

People remember Reagan,
And the aftermath
the reality came from there
miracles are not gonna happen, its a long and slow road to recovery
Not one person or party is going to be able to change that

flcouple2009 -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 4:23:40 PM)

Remember the disaster Bush I had to deal with when the failures of Reaganomics came around?

Let's wake up and face reality.

The polarization has come from the right.

And it has been coming from the right since Uncle Ronnie took office.

Bullshit

Nobody has clean hands both parties have slung way too much mud and muck.   Neither of them has any right to bitch or try and act innocent.

"Bullshit

Sorry- but the distortions really do seem to be heavily on the right. When a bunch of freshman R congressman go into Obama's office and bellyache that tarring them as destroying Medicare will cost them their jobs, it does seem like there's an increasing disconnect on the planks that people run on and what they do in office.

While Obama has certainly has dragged his feet on closing Gitmo, he's pretty much hewed to the idea of trying to work with Republicans- even though he's alienated a lot of his base. The biggest disappointment has been that he ran on a platform of change- and by trying to be so accommodating with the Republicans, we've had less change than desired.

And where on earth do people get off calling NPR leftist? I've listened to NPR on occasion and it seems pretty centrist to me....

I don't know what it is about Rove you have a problem with but the Willie Horton issue seemed a legitimate complaint to me. I mean a guy who got out of jail free under a program during Ducocuss administration goes on to later rape and murder would be an issue to me. And the lack of respect for Kerry by the guys he served with in Viet Nam would be an issue as well.

tazzygirl -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/22/2011 6:33:02 PM)

Now we are going to argue degrees?

If I pull myself into the mud to my ankles, how can I bitch about someone else slinging mud?
