Great point! How many of us know several people that could probably be considered mentally ill? I have always said, many people won't be treated or get the help they need, until they go "off" and do something terrible. Most mentally ill people are convinced they are completely sane... I am not sure how I feel about the Arizona shooting suspect. I am not saying I am in favor of jailing or putting to death those that are mentally ill, but if almost 40% of those in jail are mentally ill, why should he not go to jail? Why should he be able to plead "mental" illness and so many others have that are also "mentally ill" have to serve life sentences in prison and/or get the death penalty. What is the number of people that have been given the death penalty that I am sure, would be considered mentally ill? I am really not sure about this at all, if he doesn't belong in jail and belongs in a psychiatric hospital, why should the millions of other people in JAIL not be released and let them all go to psychiatric hospitals? I bet you damn skippy, we could all go to the nearest prison, and find 100 people at least as crazy as this dude, what about them? The system is many different things, but most can agree, it is rarely ever FAIR.
