I had to vote 'unsure' because my real answer would be 'maybe'. Too many variables I would be analysing. Ultimate goal survival, second goal is make the motherfucker pay and pay and pay........hopefully painfully and permanently. I would prefer to use his knife on him......... his genitalia would only be a starting point.

I'm sure that size & strength can matter, but attitude really is the best defense. I'm crazier than almost everybody who has considered attacking me. And I'm not all that big or strong. But being that crazy makes it so that I don't need to be.

But here's the deal: the time that I got raped, the dude was crazier than I was. So I let him rape me. I knew that I was mismatched. And for me, the choice was obvious.

So maybe this girl made that same choice. It's not a bad choice to make & it's certainly not a reason to judge anyone negatively. The strongest instinct that we have is preservation of the species & the next strongest is preservation of self. Sometimes in order to survive, we gotta make hard choices. And then let the Monday morning quarterbacks tell us what we shoulda done or what they woulda done. Because they are oh so much smarter than we are.

I grew up on a farm too and dont consider myself weak but I have never been up against someone with a weapon, that is a whole other ball game. (duh)

And the guy blindsided her, he was talking to her then bam, he started beating her, then he put the knife to her throat when she was dazed and scared to death. She got away as soon as she could when the guy was distracted by a customer. She obviously didnt see any earlier time to get away, Undoubtedly the guy was a lot bigger than her, she was probably a lot younger, maybe even an inexperienced teenager, she might have been white and easier for a black guy to intimidate her, he might have been strung out on drugs and totally unpredictable, you dont know what other factors she had to deal with and consider in order to stay alive.

And, imo, the business had a duty to do more to keep female employees left to work alone safe, especially where there is cash to tempt thieves.

having been in such a situation, you can say you will fight all you want but when you're actually there and it's happening to you, you have no idea how much you freeze up, how much once they threaten to kill your family, how overpowered you can become, that you don't struggle, you don't fight and your only thought is doing what you're told so you'll survive another day to raise your family and return to your husband alive instead of in a body bag.

I find some of your logic not only appalling but down right absurd!! RS, I hope you know I have the utmost respect for you... However, your logic is flawed here. In my most humble opinion, walking into a gun fight is different then the *threat* or actuality of being assaulted sexually. Pahunky... I can not even begin to comment on your logic at this point. It's so offensive and it feels like it has taken us back about fifty years.

But you all want to say that attitude, size, and demeanor will do a lot for people. I was at that time much bigger than I am now. I never in my wildest dreams thought anyone would rape me.. I mean come on!! I'm not hot, sexy, desirable or anything else!! But, let me just tell you the truth of the matter. By the time the "blow job" part of the rape came into play... I had already been beaten, anally raped, my shirt and bra had already been hidden from me!! Do not be mislead, I did everything you are all suggesting, I attempted to bite him....Which gave me one of the many bruises on my face for the police to tell me I was responsible for... I learned very quickly he was not only stronger than me but he had actually done this before.

Despite the fact that I always knew this would NEVER happen to someone like me due to the way I look, I always knew how I would handle it. Just like you all said... I truly believe if I had, I would be dead today..

Its not an accurate poll. You have no idea if it was males or females that responded or if they actually read the bit about the guy having a knife to the girls throat. The biased wording leaves much to be desired as well, especially the bit about the girl "complying so easily". Wording like that tells people that if they dont vote that they would fight then they were asking for it. I didnt vote on it for that reason.

I thought I read somewhere to always fight off a rape, and I know I read to never get into a car of an attacker that those people end up dead.

I am not a rape expert- which is why I wondered about human behavior.

What do the experts say? Do we know? I am certain about the not getting in a car thing.
