If you werent aware of the extreme political bias in Hollywood already, you havent been paying attention:

quote:

TV Executives Admit in Taped Interviews That Hollywood Pushes a Liberal Agenda (Exclusive Video)

Some of TV’s top executives from the past four decades may have gotten more than they bargained for when they agreed to be interviewed for a politically charged book that was released Tuesday, because video of their controversial remarks will soon be hitting the Internet.

The book makes the case that TV industry executives, writers and producers use their clout to advance a liberal political agenda. The author bases his thesis on, among other things, 39 taped interviews that he’ll roll out piecemeal during the next three weeks.
...

Some of the videos have executives making rather obvious revelations, like when Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds talk about pacifist messages in M*A*S*H or when MacGyver producer Vin Di Bona says anti-gun messages were a recurring theme in that show.

...

Another video has Leonard Goldberg — who executive produces Blue Bloods for CBS and a few decades ago exec produced such hits as Fantasy Island, Charlie’s Angels and Starsky and Hutch — saying that liberalism in the TV industry is “100 percent dominant, and anyone who denies it is kidding, or not telling the truth.”

...

Another video Shapiro will release shortly has producer-director Nicholas Meyer being asked point-blank whether conservatives are discriminated against in Hollywood. "Well, I hope so," he answers. Meyer also admits his political agenda for The Day After, a  TV movie he directed for ABC that was seen by 100 million people when it aired in 1983.

"My private, grandiose notion was that this movie would unseat Ronald Reagan when he ran for re-election," Meyer says.

Even seemingly harmless shows like Happy Days and Sesame Street have been used to advance a progressive agenda, according to Shapiro.

For example, William Bickley, a writer on The Partridge Family and a producer on Happy Days, says he infused Vietnam War protest messages into the latter. “I was into all that kind of masturbation,” he says in a soon-to-be-released video.

"Television has been perhaps the most impressive weapon in the left's political arsenal," Shapiro argues in the book.

...

Shapiro said the executives felt comfortable talking about politics with him because they assumed, incorrectly, that he is on the left.

“Most of them didn’t Google me. If they had, they would have realized where I am politically,” he said. “I played on their stereotypes. When I showed up for the interviews, I wore my Harvard Law baseball cap — my name is Ben Shapiro and I attended Harvard, so there’s a 98.7 percent chance I’m a liberal. Except I happen not to be.”

No mention of Murphy Brown?
C- : must try harder.

Marc2b -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 6:42:30 AM)

This is not news.

Personally, I don't give a too much of a crap what viewpoint a show or movie espouses so long as they don't do it via stilted dialogue (like Law & Order was occasionaly prone to, for one example).

If conservatives want to push their viewpoint, then they should start their own television/movie industy.

In the meantime, if liberalism on the airwaves depresses you that much, I recomened popping Red Dawn into your DVD player.

Sanity -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 6:47:56 AM)

You have to be projecting to think that I am depressed because of that post, Marc.
But now that you bring it up it is sad to think that network programming directors were literally programming directors for all these years, if you get my drift.

Anarrus -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 6:50:08 AM)

and liberalism (from the Latin liberalis, "of freedom") is bad why???[:D]

edit for spelling

Sanity -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 6:58:59 AM)

If you were to really think about it you would realize that mass social engineering via subliminal messages isnt by any definition liberalism.

Its exactly the opposite, isnt it.

I didn't say I agreed with it.

But with your thoughts in mind would you say you're a "classical" liberal then?

It`s really freedom of thought and expression itself,..... that sanitizer and his ilk don`t like.

In the free market place of ideas, where merit and truth choose which ones fail or succeed,neo-cons are very sore losers.

They have their own news network and still they can`t compete.

Wait till President Obama wins his 2nd term....omg ,we`re going to see gyrations and fits that`ll make the secrete Muslim,birther-foreign agent-black-radical-space monster type retard reactions seem like nothing. They`ll be speaking in tounges.

And we`ll listen and watch and be entertained b/c that`s also a freedom we enjoy.[:D]

Sanity -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 7:27:32 AM)

Freedom of thought?

You equate programming unsuspecting youngsters and the stupid how to think, to "freedom of thought"?

Well why not youngsters and the stupid, you can't teach conservatives how to think.  So go with the next level up.

Truth Sanity. Its well known liberals move toward da meja more - the "bleeding hearts and artists" took their stand but open admissions of this are important. Its inevitable programs will be colored by da politics of the writers and producers. That I can't blame them for. Its a different matter when it is deliberately done, when there is an outright and commonly understood open secret of prejudice. Whether or not folks are liberal or conservative, this stuff should be objectionable cause it influences and shapes individuals from a very young age. Its highly unethical and profoundly undemocratic. The media is shaping society thro entertainment when it should be thru open honest debate which is worrying.

No surprises

Moonhead -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 8:18:26 AM)

So, is 24 part of this vast liberal media conspiracy?

Owner59 -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 8:42:18 AM)

If cons want to produce programing and compete on the open market and win or fail, then let them.

If they can`t manage that then they should STFU.

They don`t get automatic media access for nothing, these are private businesses, like fux news is.

There`s no frig`n "Fairness Doctrine".If someone has an idea ,let it stand the test,in the market of ideas.

No one get`s to avoid that test.

flcouple2009 -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 8:45:53 AM)

OMG

You mean someone made a fictional tv series about war and included messages meant to portray that war is bad?

You mean the old fictional Hawaii Five 0 had as little gun use as possible because Jack Lord was anti gun?

It took some genius detective work to figure that out.

I always knew you had trouble separating fact from fiction.

SilverMark -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 8:54:34 AM)

OK...a count of hands, who is surprised or find this as some sort of NEW NEWS?

M*A*S*H certainly had a non-war approach to everything it did, who is really in support of war, ever? It appeared to me that they portrayed Korea as a bit more of Viet Nam than World War2 or some other "Good War".

Tough to find much of a political nature in Happy Days,(even though the guy says there were anti-VietNam war portrayals) except the episode where Richie supported Keaffauver to get some hot blonde, when Mr and Mrs C supported Ike.

I don't watch much comtemporary TV, and I can proudly say I never once watched McGyver!...Only people I ever even speak nicely of McGyver were Marge Simpson's sisters and they are cartoon charcters.

Lucylastic -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 8:55:36 AM)

wheres the subliminals?
Sanity, I hope you are going to sue them lib bastards for every tv show youve ever watched, every film you have ever seen , and change your name to McCarthy and change your job to stop this travesty from integrating itself into your conservative lifestyle
You should stop watching any tv, movies documentaries, fox news cos them bastards have more liberal programming in the USA
SO when are we going to change the world?
Not that reality has a conservative bent anyway

Moonhead -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 9:13:33 AM)
