OK...a count of hands, who is surprised or find this as some sort of NEW NEWS?

It must be news to some people, joether denies it for example

And the videos of big shot Hollywood producers admitting that a lot of what they do is propaganda is new as well, previously they denied that aspect.

Whats noteworthy to me is how this contrasts with the lefts mantra about FOX NEWS, and how so many leftists arent actually concerned about network propaganda at all, they really just want a monopoly on that.

What do we see, about a thread per day about the evils of FOX NEWS or someone on the right who broadcasts their views? Compare that to how often a thread is launched regarding the blatant bias in the mainstream media (including television and the movies).

So you admit that fux news is propaganda then......

We`re making progress.

LaTigresse -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 7:29:06 PM)

On my television at the moment......... 'Rodan'.

I wonder what subliminal messages the Japanese were sending with this 1956 cheesy monster movie......

Sanity -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 7:57:22 PM)

I admit that a little bit of balance drives leftists completely insane.

That fair enough?

If only there wasn`t so much lying and misleading at fux.

Needing to cheat doesn`t make for much credibility.

I`ll debate anyone on the merits and kick their asses.

But fake stories and dick-heads pandering to retards(Glen ?)......?

I have more respect for dog shit.

Agreed, its hypocrisy of da highest order to complain again... again... and again bout right wing bias on Fox an' then dismiss the much broader liberal bias found in da meja. Its about monopolising expression. This is also a straight forward issue of employment discrimination (see article) which explains why so few conservatives have any input in da meja.

outhere69 -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/2/2011 8:12:16 PM)

Man, all your examples are from 20-30 years ago.  Where were the subliminals in MASH?  I watched it as a teenager and it was obvious that they hated the war.  My dad thought it was a great portrayal of deployed life in Korea (he was there just after the armistice).  A lot of jokes flew right over our heads but had my parents howling with laughter (especially the announcement for all men to report "for short arm inspection".)

That stuff's about as subtle as Kelly's Heroes - that's a very cynical, anti Vietnam war movie masquerading as a WWII movie.  Still a lot of fun to watch, but nothing like watching The Battle of the Bulge, Patton, or A Bridge Too Far.

M*A*S*H certainly had a non-war approach to everything it did, who is really in support of war, ever?

I realize this is a little off topic, but the above caught my eye. For some war is great business and very profitable.

The conflicts and players may change but the profits remain the same.

If you were a writer, I'd think it would be hard not to reflect your personal views in your writing.
I am certainly a bit on the liberal side, and to me it isn't surprising, look at the actors line up behind
the Democratic Party every 4 years. It has been the prevailing attitude in Hollywood since the end
of the McCarthy era and the blacklisting. No one is immune to their own views, and in a creative
environment I am certain they come through.

Edited because I still try hard to refuse to wear my bi-focals!

Sanity -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/3/2011 6:15:18 AM)

In this the thread, a few people have acknowledged that the propaganda is over the top obvious to them, though it is clearly not obvious to everyone. The word "stupid" in that sentence was admittedly a poor choice on my part, what I should have written (and what I meant) was "mentally lazy" people, or those who are blissfully unaware.

If you actively consider it (being aware of its existence in the first place) you are far more likely to spot it. Even children can do this, to a certain degree.

It also becomes apparent while reading the thread that not everyone has a proper understanding of the term "subliminal" and that theyre probably confusing it with the term subliminal messaging, which those very similar terms have slightly different meanings.

Basically, it doesnt mean something undetectable, it means something that isnt the viewers primary focus.  From merriam-webster.com:

1 : inadequate to produce a sensation or a perception

2 : existing or functioning below the threshold of consciousness <the subliminal mind> <subliminal advertising

Going by the headline now, the assertion being made (with a lot of evidence being provided) is that these executives admitted that they push their agenda at every television audience, from babies watching Elmo on through old women watching Golden Girls.

When did we start psychoanalyzing our mindless entertainment?

flcouple2009 -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/3/2011 8:21:30 AM)

Reading here it is pretty apparent you don't understand the term fictional entertainment.

Did you ever think it was a problem that many of our interrogators got their ideas from watching "24" ?    How did that work out?  Where was the "leftist propaganda" there?

Remember some little John Wayne movie called "The Green Berets"?  That wasn't a pro war Vietnam is a great idea movie?

Again it is fictional entertainment

I am far more concerned with the Rush Limbaughs, Glenn Becks, and Keith Olbermanns of the world.  The ones who try and spin commentary and opinion half truths under the guise of news.

At least Olbermann has the guts to say, yep I said it and that's what I believe.  Unlike another weasel who does the stammering "I'm just an entertainer" when caught.

That was a '50s thing as well: remember there was a bit of a fuss over violence and horror in comics that led to the industry self regulating itself by setting up the cca and driving every thing EC published besides Mad out of print? That was stoked up by a shrink.

mnottertail -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/3/2011 8:58:01 AM)

When Faux Nuze overlays Eqypt with Iraq, and pops up a map on the middle east on their nuze, is that not primetime rightist propaganda?

Lucylastic -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/3/2011 10:13:26 AM)

I suggest anyone on the neo con side write to fox and get them to change their programming to really advance their right wing agenda, and just see what they tell you.

Sanity -> RE: "Primetime Propaganda' (6/3/2011 10:35:02 AM)

With the now admitted propaganda campaign driving it, it isnt exactly mindless entertainment taz.

propaganda central at faux nuze is not admitting it.
