Hlen5 can't get much shorter! Hlen is fine, too (I kinda like it). On the other side I sign Helen for cmail, until I and the other party have corresponded a couple of times. After that, I use my given name.

I've been called "wind" and "windy" many times in here, but sometimes I do wake up at night and wonder if they really had an ulterior motive.......[;)] Seriously, though, it doesn't bother me.

I've always considered it a given that once your name was over about 7 letters long (or was hard to spell correctly) online, it would get shortened.

It doesn't bother me when they do it to me because they usually just call me "luci" which is what I sign my posts as. It does rub me the wrong way when I see angry posters modifying each others' names, esp. in a derogatory way. There's one poster who jumps to mind who has specifically asked others not to short her name to the first word in her profile name. While attacking her in a current thread, several folks kept calling her that instead of what she had specifically asked folks to use. Just another way for them to be rude and irritating. I find it childish and very telling about their maturity level.........luci

you know, i don't think i have seen anybody make that request anywhere, so if it was made a long fucking time ago, then too fucking bad, you can't expect people to go back and check if somebody wants their name shortened a particular way or not. do what honeypaws does. if it fucking matters to you what people call you put that in your fucking sig.
