My other SN was kinda long too (YoungBlondeSlave) so it was shortened to YBS over here. I was fine with that. My only problem is on the other side when people start thinking they're clever and Dommy by calling me slave (and other super fun thins). Then, I get irked and do it back to them. They either get mad or get the point.

As Lin mentioned, it is in the sig line but I also know that some people don't read those as opposed to only reading the content of the post. Sig lines are catchy and all but they don't always get read when people are focused on the topic. I couldn't even tell you if I've made the mistake Myself. I have seen it mentioned enough times on threads now that I would hope that I wouldn't. If I hadn't seen it as part of the posts, I may see the tag line or I might not.

I've been around here posting and reading for going on 5 years and I just happen to remember that she has asked politely on numerous occasions not to call her what she's been called alot recently. Just stuck in my mind, no big deal to me personally. I don't always agree with her but I'm always careful to call her what she asks. I just think it's the decent thing to do. But then, I'm considerate like that. I disagree with pretty much every opinion you put forth and don't call you bad names at all. At least not in posts[:D] luci

She's not the only one who has asked not to be called by a shortened part of/one word from their profile name. We could certainly ALL stand to look inside ourselves and introspect more. I don't think it has a thing to do with anyone having "power" over anything. It just has to do with people going out of their way to be inconsiderate. Yeah, the world (esp. the web) is full of them. As for somebody telling me what to call them, eh well, dream on. I think this particular person butchered my name a few times (didn't really bug me) but I found it so funny when the hissy fit started that I didn't use the name she wants me to use but part of her nick. I guess I am very easily amused sometimes...

On the one hand, yeah people are generally going to shorten a nic to some version of the first part of the nic. On the other hand, if the person signs their posts with what they prefer to be called, that's what I'm going to call them. After all it is their preference.

I normally just assume people make my name shorter because it is rather long to have to type out. I didn't really think about it untill the other day someone called me MIP while saying she was happy to see me back (thank you it is nice to be missed) and a bell went off in my head...Minor in Possession. I haven't been a minor in many years so I think it is kind of funny. When I really get to know someone I tell them what people in the real world that really know me call me. Online as long as I know they are talking to me I figure it's all good.

And as said before, oddly enough it's usually the people who do with other people's nicks whatever they like, possibly in the hope to get a raise out of them, that are so super touchy about. I agree...to a point. When the name they ask to be called by is short - as is the case with the person we are all thinking of - it's just not that difficult. Really it shouldn't be a hardship to call the person by the nic they prefer so I don't sweat it. I also don't feel the need to do as they do, I'd rather show myself to be above that kind of pettiness.

The funniest part about this whole exchange is that I never said a word about YOU. I posted what I did without saying who I'm even talking about and I surely didn't mention anyone who was doing the name-shortening. You come right along and pipe up like someone's saying you did it and now you're saying that I "obviously think" YOU are doing it deliberately. Who ever mentioned YOU except YOU? Take it easy 'cause I sure didn't. If the shoe fits and all that, but I don't "obviously think" anything about you. Newsflash, you're not the topic on everyone's mind for every post. Also, in case you didn't notice, I was having a sense of humor when I said if you didn't know about it, it didn't happen. Notice the smiley? In lieu of facial expressions and tone of voice, I use those to show a light-hearted mood. I was actually kidding you, for once, instead of being full-out irked by something you'd said. I just find the particular person a bit grating and the claims a bit tall, but I think I understand where she's coming from, having worked a lot in journalism, it was amazing that the office cleaners never said they were office cleaners but worked for <insert media outlet>, however, I am sure she makes those guys a really good coffee.

FR Only when people call me Lucy Elastic, cos it shows they dont know how to pronounce lucylastic (loose elastic). Call me Luce, Call me Lucy, Call me Luc or Loose, Call me Ma'am or call me for a coffee, but trying to seem smart and pissy is just dumbassery;) If I butcher anyones name, its rarely on purpose and I will usually respects someones wishes regarding such.
