Let's get to the USA airports...Miami International, O'Hare in Chicago, Newark in New Jersey, LaGuardia in Queens, NY, JFK in Brooklyn, NY and LAX are some of the worst, busiest, biggest most chaotic airports in the world.

Oh I hate those! Flying into New York is a drag as all the airports around are pretty bad and LAX is just a pain in the neck, nothing wrong with big and busy but the chaos... O'Hare just seemed like an asylum, the same with Dulles (Washington). A surprisingly great one (should have mentioned this before) is San Francisco, so well laid out and such friendly people.

Among the worst airports in Europe I'd count Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Heathrow (getting better but still, such a pain in the neck and they manage to lose luggage all the time) Manchester Airport (whoever picked the carpets must be colour blind), Charles De Gaulle in Paris, they seem to have homeless people there by the truck load and know about it, so security will actually warn you that they will try to pick your pockets or steal your luggage, if your flight is delayed, it's not great. Paris Beauvais is also pretty bad, had a flight cancelled and decided to wait for the next which was in the morning and thought no point in going back to Paris and spend a lot of money for 3 hours of sleep in a hotel, I just stay at the airport and read - ha! They close the airport after 11 pm (and kick you out) and you're then in the middle of nowhere... Moscow is also horrific, you can feel your lungs blackening just from 2nd hand smoke plus pickpockets everywhere.

I loved Schipol... they have EVERYTHING there!

US airports: I agree with John Wayne, Tampa is great too.. only two airsides and as long as you arent flying out of the Delta airside, security is quick and efficient.

Popeye..I have a friend that is an ATC at Myrtle Beach.. he once told me "you NEVER want to FLY into MB!!"  LOL

sunshinemiss -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 5:30:34 AM)

I love the Nashville airport because whenever I arrive there (it's kind of small), there's country music playing.
And then....

I come down the escalator, and the people I love are there, and I yell "I'M HOME!!!"  and someone down at the bottom always yells back "YAY!"
(and it's not always someone I know!)

Maybe only deaf people live there? ....

If they weren't deaf before, they are now.

oh yeah, BNA is great too!!!

I havent flown into or out of Savannah yet, but it's small, so I am hopeful.. although, we keep getting 'distressed passengers' from Delta at work.....

Back to the good ones, Fort Lauderdale Airport, not nearly as crazy as M.I.A. , MacArthur Airport  in Islip, Long Island, Burbank Airport in Burbank CA, and West Palm Beach International airport are cute, small, easily navigational airports and if you forget that you have your toenail scissors in your carryon  bag and didn't put this extremely dangerous instrument in your baggage, you only have a short walk in Burbank to get to the check in counter so you can put this weaponry into your cargo hold luggage. And I agree that the airport in Portland , OR is very nice, spacious, non-chaotic and peaceful. Also falling into this category would be the airport at Keplavik (sp?) in Iceland, where there are no long lines and strict security guards staring you down.

Stings, you forgot Atlanta, *the* busiest airport in the country. It's Delta's home base and you might see 50 Delta planes there at any one time.
The airport is of course always busy but quite efficient for being such a huge airport.
Has anyone flown into/out of D.F.W.?

GreedyTop -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 8:41:57 AM)

ATL sucks SERIOUS ass!!

DFW doesnt suck as bad as ATL.. but it's close.

pahunkboy -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 8:42:16 AM)

Williamsport-  the planes are too small.  Tho the place is calm.

Harrisburg is ok- but finding the place is a bitch.   The roads- you have to go south to go north with many many turn offs.

there was a time when Midway in Chicago was convenient.

In 84,  I liked LAX.   I am sure that changed by now.

I was pleasantly surprised with Baltimore... not too big- not too small.

Ohare parking garage is interesting-  each level is a sports team- well lit up-  very lit up.

My favorite airport is in Georgetown, Grand Cayman.

As you fly in, you can see the reefs and blue water that is waiting.

A bit hairy though b ecause there isn't much room for error. At least the water is warm if they do fuck up LOL.

Oh, I haven't been to Atlanta in quite a while.
My stepfather was a mechanic for Delta Airlines and was there for about 20 years before comming back to Boston/Logan.
I guess it's changed in the last 20 years![sm=doh.gif]

willbeurdaddy -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:16:59 AM)

Anywhere as long as its not O'Hare.

VirginPotty -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:19:50 AM)

Casper, WY airport ROCKS!
It's so small.............................(How small is it)..........it's so small that when my flight landed at 1pm they closed for the night 'cause that was the last flight scheduled!  They have 2 people working the reservation counter.

**Eta....I liked Logan International too[:D]**

GreedyTop -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:20:59 AM)

Delta sucks.

highest incident of lost luggage/delayed or cancelled flights, IME at hotels....

thus the 'distressed passengers'

or the guests that say "the airline lost my luggage, please call me when it gets in"

"when did they say it would be in?"

"by 10pm (give or take a number,,, invariably, it didnt show up until damned near 5am)

Ooooh, I wanna fly into that airport!! The reason I said I liked flying into San Diego is because it's very nearly that exciting. The only difference is that the plane doesn't get below rooftops on its approach.

The reason I said I love flying out of John Wayne is because due to the noise regs, the plane taxis out onto the runway, revs the engines up & takes off like it's been shot from a catapult!!! WOOT! Big fun than!!!

GreedyTop -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:27:46 AM)

you like turbulence too, doncha?

I do :)

ATL is much better than LAX.

I flew into LAX like a couple of weeks after 911, it was the worst flying experience of my life. Maybe my view of LAX has been jaded as a result.

My least favorite airport is DEN, there is something creepy about that place. The energy is all wrong

GreedyTop -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:45:53 AM)

I'd rather fly into DEN than ATL or LAX

although... I do miss Stapleton...

juliaoceania -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:49:16 AM)

I spent 8 hours at DEN because my connection flight to South Dakota was cancelled due to "mechanical difficulties" (they probably did not have enough people on the flight to keep it in the air, I am such a cynic). That airport just sucks as far as I am concerned.

mnottertail -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:50:36 AM)

What were you doing in SoDAK?  Cuz I cant believe they are gonna have really spiffy airports, Huron or Pierre or?

GreedyTop -> RE: What are your favorite airport(s) and why? (6/6/2011 10:51:42 AM)

Rapid City, Souix Falls

I have family in Pierre....

Better than Minot, ND...../
