No, mostly I am saying that the narrative from Longfellow's poem is inaccurate. It is a good poem, but that does not mean he did not use some artistic license. Most people learn the Longfellow poem in school, but the accurate story is not taught. That is unfortunate. I think that it is sad that there are so many people calling Ms. Palin "dumb" and "stupid" over this, when they do not know the correct history. What is even sadder is that not ONE of these people are going to say, "Oh, she was right, I guess I learned something today." As far as no one knowing what happened, well Julia, some of us are using Paul Revere's account. Of anyone, you would think that HE would know. Looking at the video it seems obvious to me that she simply flubbed saying "British" when she meant "Americans." Although it is true that the colonists still tended to think of themselves as British I just don't get the impression that she was refering to that or the fact that he spoke with some of the Regulars who captured him. In fact, I very much get the impression that her knowledge on the subject is the simplified School House Rocks version. Whatever... if she had simply said, "opps, my mistake, I meant warn the Americans," most of this nonsense would have blow over by now.
