ORIGINAL: juliaoceania I find it quite ironic that those who think the initial message was tacky in the first place are thinking it is okay to use it as any form of advertisement (PSA or otherwise). They are still trying to use ridicule to make a point, and personally I wouldn't want to go to such a theater. i think it would be tacky to use ridicule to sell tickets by selling people on the idea of how hip they are. i see nothing wrong with using ridicule (and i think it was done tongue in cheek, and not in the spirit of meanness, or trying to up the ante) to make a point about their policy, which was NOT being made clear enough by the theater's earlier (and probably more passive) efforts to hit that point home. Say what you like about the ad, i bet it got people's attention in a way the other ads probably did not. And if it pisses some people off by using ridicule to make a point, hopefully it AVOIDS pissing more people off by making them aware of a policy that they would have been kicked out for if they hadn't known. I wonder if this gal might have legal recourse if she knew they were using her voice on their recording this way.... i have no idea, but i suspect they had their lawyers check on it first. I wonder, would you want to call in a complaint to this chain seeing how they have treated others who have done so? Her story differs dramatically from theirs. If theirs is true, then i don't think she was treated badly. If hers is true, then they were completely within their rights, but may not have handled the situation as well as they could have. i would have a different opinion about the whole thing if i thought this was their way of selling "cool". But i think it's their way of emphasizing their policy by using humor instead of lecturing (which seems to have been ineffective.) i do NOT think their motivation was retaliation against the complainer, and i tend to believe their version of the story more than hers, especially since her version contradicts itself. i think she deserved a warning before being thrown out of the theater. She may, or may not, have received one. If she didn't, then ridiculing her to make a point might be over the top. But if i were in her shoes, i would NOT have left that kind of message, and then expected my complaint to be taken as seriously as one that had been better thought out. pam
