Obama Presses Europe, Pledges Help for Greek Crisis

The first comment under the story says it all, in my opinion:

quote:

"With the US national debt exceeding 14 trillion dollars, we cannot afford to bail out (or pledge any help to) Greece or any other European nation. Let these socialist countries solve their own problems by dismantling their failed government programs."

proudimmigrant

popeye1250 -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/8/2011 4:27:11 PM)

Yeah, why would we want to bail out Greece, Ireland or Portugal?

Ouzo, Jamesons and Warres?

Edwynn -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/8/2011 4:58:34 PM)

The effort is somewhat understandable here.

When the time comes that stronger economies of the world recognize that the US economic program of sucking Exxon/Koch Bros./Goldman Sachs dick is not a sustainable venture, then they are going to drop us like the much overused bitch that we are.

The little token gesture here re Greece is too little, too late.

pahunkboy -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/8/2011 5:13:23 PM)

It does sound odd.

Termyn8or -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/8/2011 5:19:06 PM)

"Ouzo, Jamesons and Warres? "

I don't give a fuck if we disagree, that was cool as fuck.

T^T

(don't forget I get three points for using the word "fuck" twice in a sentence under guidlines)

Fellow -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/8/2011 5:31:15 PM)

To be clear: we are not talking about Greece. The bailout money goes to cover the losses by Goldman Sachs, GM Morgan Chase and other multinational banks. They, of course, created the problem. Obama administration SOP: bail out the banks and rich. There is a strong movement in Greece in opposition to the bailout and follow the Iceland model "Let the bankers eat their own bad debts".

Termyn8or -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/8/2011 8:01:05 PM)

Iceland is where Bobby Fisher is. Know what he said when asked if he would ever return to the US ? (on national TV in Iceland)

T^T

Correct.

Sanity recognizes the socialists who were busy spending money they didn't have, but he is mysteriously lacking in the understanding of how the capitalists here were making big bucks trying to launder that debt away (you know, like they tried to launder away the risk of sub-prime borrowers in the housing sector, too) and who ended up blowing up the economy when their financial algorithms (science projects) backfired.

Between capitalism and socialism, there are no 'winners' here for the average middle class layperson.  Just the rich bankster guy who gets unearned windfalls from both.

I think you pretty much nailed it.

Brain -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/9/2011 1:17:18 AM)

Fine, don't help Greece and they default and cause another global recession OR help Greece and they will continue to try and pay debt they can never pay back. Hint, it's better for Greece if they default and start over.

Aneirin -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/9/2011 4:04:44 AM)

Well, if the machine that is the global economy is to be kept moving and serving those that benefit from it, bail outs will have to happen simple as that, as the more that fall out of the global economy will eventually mean less income, the thing falls apart and those on the make lose out.

But I wonder sometimes, if this centralised everything is really good for us as a people, the majority, as it occurs those close to the centre receive most and those at the outlying edges receive less and much of that is because those at the centre can only see their immediate world, not that of the fringes, where their interest does not venture due to the thinning out of that which interests them.

But of the bail outs, the question should be asked, of whom does this benefit, and that which Fellow said earlier, I would be inclined to agree, for the banks must always win.

SilverMark -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/9/2011 4:29:51 AM)

I see in the article very little in the way of how we would help Greece aside from pressing the EU to help them. Not any mention of a single dollar of American money is even mentioned.

Nice headline, little substance.

Sanity -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/9/2011 6:10:51 AM)

You could be right Mark, it could be just more of  Obama doing what he does best, reading the typical hollow promises that scroll across his teleprompter.

Shooting rainbows out of his ass, so to speak.

But he also made mention of aiding Greece through the IMF in the article, perhaps you missed that part?

The part where he is quoted as saying, "...it's going to require some patience and some time. And we have pledged to cooperate fully in working through these issues, both on a bilateral basis but also through international and financial institutions like the IMF."

LMAO and you expected more??
Fellow is right when he says <snip>The bailout money goes to cover the losses by Goldman Sachs, GM Morgan Chase and other multinational banks. They, of course, created the problem.</snip>
The world is not recovering well from the fuck up of the big banks. Leaving countries to fend for themselves is gonna do more harm than good.
Runaway and hide? well done America
Has naff all to do with being a socialist country
anyone who thinks that also thinks all lefties are communists
and we know just how dumb that is to use as truth
well most of us do

Sanity -> RE: US to bail out Greece? (6/9/2011 8:21:35 AM)

So... if the Dems are the party of Goldman Sachs as you claim... does this mean that the left should should stay at home during the next election?

Or what exactly is your point.
