I keep reading people who think that the peace movement went to sleep when Obama took office. I wanted to make the point that this is not true. It isn't reported on, but it is still there

United For Peace

Answer Coalition I have marched with this organization

Coverage of a Protest

Peace Fresno
I was a member of this organization when I lived in Fresno

When I was in Long Beach I attended different rallies against war, even after Obama was in office. When I move to the Bay Area I will involve myself again.

Now, just because the mainstream media isn't telling you about these rallies, doesn't mean they do not exist. It seems that Fox News only reported on them as a way to denigrate them when Bush was in office. It is the mainstream media that quit caring about the Peace Movement, not the Peace Movement that quit caring about peace...

So, now y'all see that there is still an active peace movement out there, please sit down and shut the fuck up about it

Very ironic.... seeing the right complain about the lack of caring about the peace movement on the part of the "Left" and then a pro peace movement thread gets started and they have nothing to add to it...

Very, very ironic indeedy.

There is no "Pro Peace" movement, there is only an "Anti-war" movement. Just as the "Pro-choice" movement was almost entirely coopted by the "Pro-abortion" movement.

I'm sure I've never heard/read a pro peace article, or group in New England. I'll have to google, and see if I'm wrong.
Maybe start one. M

Gosh, the Quakers were probably America's first pro peace organization!

I seem to vaguely recall meeting Quakers and Unitarian Universalists last time I was in Boston.

Actually, in retrospect I have heard of Quakers, and Unitarian Universalists. I shall STFU now, to keep peace moving forward here. M

Sure. The real peaceniks are still about, but we are seeing just how rare and utterly insignificant they actually are. Most of what was passing for a "movement" a few years ago turned out to be nothing but brainwashed Bush-haters on a bandwagon, who never had a real "value"in their lives.

Cindy Sheehan was out my way a few months back, holding up a sign at the gate of a military installation. The local paper sent a reporter who was there for five minutes, and she was bragging on her blog that they got media!

I have a certain respect for those who really do oppose war under any circumstances. I think they are dumb, delusional, and wrong, but I'll appreciate their consistency and committment to their beliefs.

The rest? Not so damn much.

I think most people were looking for someone to set limits on our involvement…They were realizing that Iraq was a mistake and Obama is getting us out on a reasonable schedule.

He has been doing the same in Afghanistan while keeping up the pressure on insurgents. I do believe most people were and are for the war in Afghanistan but since the killing of Ben Laden the reason to be there is gone. Again most understand we just can’t pull our troops all at once but they will soon demand a hard time table for our disengagement. He will need to convince us that he is serious about the time table before the election or the anti war element will once again gain supporters.

Some of us never stopped supporting it

The one link in the OP shows a recent march that looks rather well attended, for example
