LMAO!! You are a cruel, but brilliantly cruel man. Can you just imagine what would happen when the newly arrived American fascists encounter the Quebec language nazis?

"I have the right to speak English!"

Beautiful! Simply beautiful!

Okay, so how about this? I leave off the page with directions to Montreal, that way none of our morons find out about the possibility that other provinces exist (Montreal having highways pointing to Ontario and Ottawa ).
I'll try and keep it fair, yet still entertaining.
Personally, I think the neo-american-right-wing landing in Quebec City would be a real pants pisser... You folks should make sure Chateau Frontenac has plenty of Maps to that beggar's alley where the kids climb all over the car (it's been a VERY long time, I want to say rue soullivac or something like that... course, by now, it's probably gone, to 'tidy things up').

Yeah, I know.. it just should be our Canadian anthem played and our Canadian flags waving at the end!
Oh well, as long as there arent any major riots...

SINCERELY -
Good luck with that[8D]

That would be nice. And riots?....thank God it isn't the Habs playing, eh?  Those buggers riot when they win, God knows what they'd do if they lost!

There have been riots in Vancouver too. The cops were totally and embarassingly unprepared for that, so I expect they will be on alert this time around.

Lucylastic -> RE: Lets Talk about Canada... (6/12/2011 12:13:21 PM)

If the maple leafs ever win, there wont be riots, just mass dropping dead with shock

On the surface this appears to be so, but when you factor in health care costs it doesn't hold up so well. And the real reason why our economy is doing so well and didn't tank is because our financial sector is heavily regulated, they just simply cannot engage in the crazy practices that led to the melt down. I realize this is an unpopular idea south of the border, but it is so.

We're very much in agreement on this. I think it was almost homicidal that US financial 'gurus' let shit slip by like "derivatives" ... they should have busted that BS in it's proposal stages. Policies like that actually created an incentive to build faulty lending practices into the newly de-regulated system. They KNEW they were killing the US Consumer and the middle class in the process. But they were taking their profits out early, so it ju8st didn't matter to them. And THIS is the kind of horseshit economic policy the TeaPartiers and neo-cons IGNORANTLY protest and want to turn us back to.

But the US consumers didnt have to be sheeple/lemmings and so easily manipulated to go along with it. What ever happened to common sense?

That is only as long as your team is winning, once your team is out, then the rule is that you switch your allegiance to the NEXT Canadian team. [:)]

Same thing that happened to common sense in the Maritime provinces from what I can see. I am not disagreeing with you but it's a wider issue than just pointing a finger at consumers. And it sure as hell hasn't just happened here. And contrary to your belief that this is something that could be headed off with a consumer movement, it's like everything else to do with food production GLOBALLY. Just about all populations got sucker punched by globalization, tech-farming, fish wars, etc. These practices slipped in under their noses. And in some cases, information was even suppressed.
It started with mishap regulatory practices in the fisheries which were seized upon by foreign fleets, fishing just outside territorial waters. While it became MUCH more costly to maintain a fleet towards the inland waters, floating canneries began taking ground fish more than the tuna and other school fish. And the big international fish companies got the edge over local fleets. And frankly, it's next to impossible to sell slightly more expensive, better quality fish to Americans who have a wall street-esque mentality of bottom lines and "tough luck if you can't compete". it's times like those when your local industrial mainstay (Like Gorton's Of Gloucester), becomes Japanese or whatever-ese.
It's easy to offer a late to the table solutions like 'the consumers did it' ... of course they did. But middle men set the suckers up. Quickly and QUIETLY.

And the fact of the matter is we here locally HAVE put solutions in place. They're just not enough to solve the problem (case in point):

Ok ya got me on this one, I dont see what the US mortgage debacle has to do with fish. [sm=cactus.gif]
When I talk about commonsense, I am not advocating a consumer movement, just people to be responsible for themselves and their own actions.

Unless you mean the mentality of the business man trying to manipulate the market behind the scenes.. you're right. But I didn't mention mortgages in my response to you, so you're reaching a bit there.

Yeah, well consumers everywhere (even California) are bottom liners and if it means a dollar a pound difference to buy locally/regionally, only the ones wealthy, enough, who want to crow about the 'good' they bring will buy in. Which isn't the worst thing in the world, it's just comical to me at the level where they look at the poor sap buying  chilean anything, and questioning their stewardship, without a thought to whether they can afford to feed their kids the organics. And that's great so long as they aren't playing commodities and futures out of the other side of their face.

Well, in my post that you responded to, I was talking about US mortgages, not fish and that is what my post was about. It never had anything to do with fish. So no, I was not reaching at all, you were fishing in the wrong pond. [>:]
