Constantly being mistaken for a girl, yeah no......

I actually buy the DVD sets of some of my favorite childhood cartoons. I loved the Tales From the Cryptkeeper. One episode in particularly called "Hide and go Shriek" about a geeky little nerd(who I totally identified with at the time) who buys so magic tea in order to get revenge on a big Bully, who picked on him(also identified with) that turns him into a werewolf.

Sigh....good times.

I was a little too old for Tales from the Cryptkeeper but I admired the concept.

You reminded me, though, that I would totally watch the hell out of a cartoon I did love as a kid--the old Alf cartoon which was way better than the sitcom with the disturbing little puppet. Sadly I just checked and most of the episodes are not available via Netflix. :(

Watching it now TFTC is totally 90s cheesy. But it has a place in my heart.
I remember the cartoon but I preferred the actual sitcom. Though I was more of a Mork and Mindy fan.

Did anyone else think Pam Dawber was kinda hot?

Labyrinth and Dark Crystal

I never realized how adult those movies were.

I can no longer watch Labyrinth without alcohol thanks to David Bowie. Me and the guys play a game were you have to drink every time you see Davids junk, by the end of the movie you're hammered. Those pants were just way too tight for any human to wear.

If I was gay I would totally hit that though, Jareth was kinda hot.

It was all about POGs.

Well is it STILL all about Pogs? Because the question was pretty clearly about childhood pleasures you still enjoy and yet you stumble in here all willy nilly going "Durr I like pogs!" Jesus, shape up or ship out!

JK I love pogs! Pog-buddies 4 ever! <3

If you told me you were gay, I'd believe you.

I know right! And I'D be happy! :D

Aww thanks! :D Sweetest thing anybody has said to me today! Well a bartender at the hotel bar told me I was cute when I popped in for a nooner, but she works for tips so I'm not sure that counts.

Also, NS, I'm not gay, but I'm as gay friendly as Fire Island during the High Holidays (and that is pretty gay friendly!).

Granny had these tiny little glasses with Scottie dogs on them & she would give us our orange juice in them when we visited. And no matter how big we got, if we stayed at her place for the night, she put a kitchen chair up next to the bed so we wouldn't fall out.

Flannel sheets & nighties evoke such comfort for me. There was a Madrona tree in our yard whose trunk angled gently up & I could climb that one. I loved peeling the bark off it. Playing tetherball & badminton with my sister.

Walking the 2 miles down to the beach with a good book & my towel & going swimming by myself & then lying in the sun to read & dry out & warm up & going back out again. I was allowed to do this as a pre-teen.

Running away for the day with my sister. We'd tell our mom we were running away & she would hand us each 5 bucks & we'd take off. She never asked where we went nor am I sure she really cared. I'm sure she loved her days of solitude too. We'd go downtown Seattle, go to Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe or take a ferry boat ride to Bremerton & she would flirt with the sailors.

Making nests: with an army blanket over a card table; inside the curtain of the big weeping willow; behind the bucket that held our Christmas tree.

Sleeping in the tent in the yard by myself in the summer.

Playing the piano for hours & hours.

Such memories!!!

I still indulge in a lot of these, such as right now, I'm wearing a flannel nightie.

I think I mostly miss that freedom of living in the moment. How you could get up for the day and assuming there's no school (or better...a snow day!) or chores, there would be this feeling of anticipation of having the whole day ahead of you waiting to unfold. The small things you would do all day long that completely captivated all of your attention in any given moment.

Then, whatever burning desire you had you were free to follow through on till you had to be home for lunch or dinner. So simple and so utterly engrossing.

If you ever wish to revisit that.........ahhhhhhhhh (how to say this without suggesting something illegal)....... find that chronic pain that will get you some great medical herb!

Lol....that particular thing doesn't really appeal to me. I think people must have different receptors in their bodies and it never affects me in the way that others describe.

Grilled cheese and Campbells tomato soup though...omg yes! I dunk. That is the food of the Gods. Still my middle son's favorite meal too so I get to make it for him and reap the benefits lol.

The 64 color box of crayons!!! It still gives me a feeling of complete excitement. The smell is heavenly.
I hated letting my little brother use mine, he'd break the crayons and draw on the box. Infidel. He'd tattle to my mother if I wouldn't let him too. There was one page in my Barbie coloring book that I never colored in...Barbie was in an elaborately patterned ball gown. I couldn't color it and potentially spoil the promise that the page held for perfection. I still think about that uncolored page from time to time...

That reminds me! My grandma had these two little magnets that were shaped like Scotties. One was all black, the other was all white. When I was three or four I'd spend hours playing with them because my attention was so easily transfixed. When she passed and assorted cousins I barely knew I had were getting lawyers and fighting over the will, those magnets were essentially the only thing I really cared about getting. I still have them in a box on my dresser, in fact.

i miss sitting on my ponies all evening while they just ate grass. no saddles or bridles and listening to the birds sing.

the fella and i were out walking through a country park that is next door to me and i was telling him how the drive had been lined with laurel bushes when i was a kid. they were huge and you could get in the middle of them. i'd spend hours in there just watching birds and keeping an eye on the nests. one had a large branch that had bent so that it was almost seat like and i'd sit there watching people come and go in the park.

i hated being at home and when i was there i would always be in my room. i was the only one i knew who would ask for books for christmas or birthdays. i loved enid blyton and the wishing chair books. i reread all my books times over as an escape. these days i get my fix from the harry potter books and films. i love nothing better than having a duvet day and just reading all day.

i had a border collie dog from the age of 10. my brother and i would take him to the corn fields and while one held him the other would hide. we'd then let him go and watch him bounce like a 'roo looking for us. my brother is four years younger than me and listening to him giggle like a loon while watching the dog was just great. i found out just how allergic i am to cereal crops while walking my dog through the fields with my arms spead brushing the top of the corn.

my brother and i would also get excited when the corn get all its fronds on the end and then moved like the sea in the wind. it meant our anual holiday was close. we'd sit in the trees watching the corn and talking about what we'd do while there. i still love watching the crops do that wave in the wind each year.

Totally! Heavy Metal reminds me of the summer between 8th grade and high school when it was all about running basketball all day and playing Dungeons and Dragons and watching Heavy Metal at night. We also played some intense Nintendo!

RHPS is more of a high school memory--I used to dress up as a pretty mean Dr. Frank 'n Furter for events back then, although that was when eyeliner and torn fishnets were sort of de rigeur "night on the town" apparel for me anyway. Oh sweet bird of youth!

I just thought of another one. Food of course......

Home made mac and cheese with the buttered bread crumbs on top.........baked until the edges are dark brown and taste oh soooo good.

And now I really want to go home and climb on Maj's back while he munches grass. Haven't done that in years. I also like to sneak out while he is napping all stretched out on the ground and sit down with him, leaning against his belly.

I watched em both. The first time I saw RHPC was in 78. Midnight showing Grove cinema in Coconut Grove.

I had NO fucking idea what it was but friends from the dorm talked me into it. I get there and all these people are dressed and carrying props and I'm like "What the FUCK"

The cinema is the first movie theater I ever saw that served beer. Becks.

This made me smile so big!! My sister & I each took a Scottie glass & I found 6 more at a glass show which I split with her. So we each now have 4.

I had an awesome collection of ET and Gremlins glasses from Burger King. Those were sweet sweet nice. I sincerely hope I have those packed away somewhere, because I promised myself that I'd never be one of those dudes who goes around re-assembling his childhood via Ebay purchases but for those glasses I might make an exception!
