ORIGINAL: LillyBoPeep that's one of the misconceptions about belly dance and the people who like it/do it -- it's somehow always about sex. pole dancing is fun, but not in the same way belly dance is. watch some videos of tito seif; a male dancer from cairo -- he's got excellent interpretation, and technical skill, and he's often very humorous. but he's male, doesn't generally wear revealing costumes (say like Ozgen, the fairly famous turkish male dancer), and has a really familiar quality to him. he'll do a duet with a female dancer and do the same moves without looking feminine or sexual at all. it totally CAN be sensual or as sexy as you want it to be (and i think one of the failings of tribal style is in trying to remove a lot of that), but that's not ALL it is. I agree, it's not all about sex. I enjoy the dance in and of itself. I even enjoyed watching the vids of the men dancing. It does take, as with all types of taught dances, technique. I'm impressed with the amount of control they have over their bodies. Dancing is deeper than sex but I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a little excited by Samia and Sadie while watching them perform. Not in a crude way, just appreciative of their beauty and grace.
