Just in case anyone is wanting or waiting for US to Canada mail?
It doesnt seem likely to be coming while the strike here is ongoing

Canadians waiting for that letter from the United States will have to wait a little longer. Starting this weekend the United States Postal Service will no longer be accepting mail destined for Canada.

"Due to the expectation by Canada Post officials that the strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will last until at least sometime next week, the U.S. Postal Service will suspend accepting mail destined to Canada — effective Saturday, June 18, 2011, 11:59 p.m. CDT — with the exception of Global Express Guaranteed shipments," said the USPS in a statement on their website.

The Canada Post strike began as a series of rolling work stoppages more than two weeks ago, but escalated into a full strike when Canada Post locked out workers earlier this week.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post are deadlocked over pension and wage issues. Federal Minister of Labour Lisa Raitt has also raised the spectre of back-to-work legislation to end the strike.

I hope it doesnt last long!!!

That is good to know.    ...the other thing- is that the mail might not get thru the riot zone in Vancouver, which is pretty much burned to the ground after the hockey team failed to perform.

Please Hunky do you have any idea how big Vancouver is...????

City officials say a total of 29 businesses were damaged, about 15 vehicles were overturned or burned, portable toilets were toppled and trash cans were torched.

Worst hit were Hudson's Bay, London Drugs, Bank of Montreal and a car rental agency on West Georgia Street, and the Sears, Future Shop and Chapters stores on Robson Street.

Many have signed on the Wall of Forgiveness - temporary plywood walls decorated by many messages covers the damaged windows of the Hudson's Bay Company store in downtown Vancouver. The Wall stretches from Granville St., Georgia St. and Seymour St. (Mark Ferris)
Crews worked hard to sweep up, replace the glass and board the windows as office workers arriving for work looked on in disbelief and confusion, and snapped photos of the mess.

Many volunteers also responded to a Facebook campaign and were on the streets with brooms, shovels and garbage bags helping city workers clean up the broken glass and trash that remained strewn across city streets.

No where close to being burned to the ground, dont over exagerate, it does nothing to enhance your post

Speaking of photos, I saw the pic of the kissing couple, which was an amazing shot and such a contradiction imo.

I knew there would be a riot tho.

Lucylastic -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 10:12:13 AM)

yeah pretty cool:)
with all those people watching ...was bound to happen, but good to see so many turn up to help the cleanup

pahunkboy -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 10:15:38 AM)

...That riot is perplexing.  I was looking to see the shoes on those guys... to see if it was an agent provocateur thing.  I did not notice that it was.

Canada is a big country, a huge land mass,  so the riot there wont effect the rest of the place.

The strike is interesting topic-  while I dont have anything shipping to CA,  I do buy things from outside of the US.

I read somewhere that the cops are saying it was planned by anarchists, they supposedly had stuff with them to break into places, etc. Sounds like it was much bigger and widespread than the 94 riot.
I dont like my Vancouver destroyed like that! [:(]

The clean up was not covered here in the US... the riot was tho.

Lucylastic -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 10:28:35 AM)

of course it wasnt Hunky people caring and cleaning up , doesnt make good cover.
How much news has their been on that horrible mess down in joplin, unless you look for it, or use local resources,
How many people commented on the presidents trip down there, or the cries for help or the fact that people are getting sick because of the mould spores getting into their wounds?. nope they wanna talk about how much golf he plays(see FORE in the P&R)or the latest cock shots from the weiner meister.

PS
Vancouver city is 44.3 square miles in area, population is almost 600,000
Vancouver metro is 1,11.4 square miles and the population is just over 2 million, so its not small or burned down.
The downtown core is a mess, but being cleaned up, I would think, it wont take long, . Tj, i hope it gets back to normal asap

GreedyTop -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 10:32:15 AM)

said it before, will say it again.. Hunky.. get your paranoid head outta your paranoid ass.. please.. as a a favor to those of us that live in reality?

Lucy there is something about this riot that ...is very sad.

I always looked up to Canada- as the people were always civil, the example.   The riot reminded me of something that would happen in the US.,  and I am sad that the once reliable example- might not be that reliable any more.

Hopefully it will blow over.   I hate that we export garbage.....

GreedyTop -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 10:37:14 AM)

Dude.. seriously, we do NOT export it.. it is part of the human condition, to be violent.

despite whatever rainbows and unicorns view you wish to hold.....

Lucylastic -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 10:47:16 AM)

get a bunch of people together and then suffer a loss like that, people are gonna get pissed , some are gonna get ugly, people in packs turn ugly quickly and nastily.
Riots arent an american thing, neither is ugliness, its a human thing, and canadians are human.
Its not a good thing, it is what it is.

Its a sporting event thing!

In San Francisco after the Giants won the 2010 world series.

In LA when the Lakers won the NBA championship.

When Maryland (College) beat Duke.

Lets not discuss the poor couches in Pittsburgh over the years, other than to say its now illegal to have one set out on your porch.

Its almost like a rite of passage for sport fans,

tazzygirl -> RE: USPS Not mailing to canada (6/18/2011 11:04:58 AM)

Oh.. and just a little ditty I found.

Ann Coulter’s new book “Demonic” is subtitled “How The Liberal Mob is Endangering America.”

The book begins with the work of Gustave Le Bon, a French social psychologist who studied crowd psychology. It goes on to discuss how violent mobs acted during The French Revolution, the 1960s, etc.

Naturally, I asked Coulter (who has her own personal issues with Canada) for her take on the violent Vancouver mob that rioted after the Canucks loss to the Bruins after Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals last night.

Coulter’s quick response? “… The sad thing is Canadians hurt in the rioting will have to wait six months for an MRI.”

http://dailycaller.com/2011/06/16/ann-coulter-on-the-vancouver-hockey-mob/#ixzz1PeUDA4g2

Dont know how true it is.. but I find her comment rather sad.
