After I wrote that I had a vision of a house in suburbia, surrounded by cops, a tipsy couple giggling, then wetting themselves under the police spotlights and speakers...........all because a scared babysitter heard something outside, peeked out a window and saw two shadowy figures lurking about.

One of the wheels on the stroller could have fallen off- cause all that stuff is cheaply made...  then there would be an accident,  so who would be there to pick up the pieces?  People could have been killed and the guy who wanted to call the police would have blood on his hands.

If the stroller hit a rock- the rock could fly up and hit someone in the head.  The guy would need stitches and have a concussion, and if the pock had a jagged edge, the guy would suffer from amnesia.

If something had happened, how much do you wanna bet it would be blamed on being legally drunk, and then the charge would have been "child endangerment"

No it isn't. And..how many parents have hired a babysitter and gone out, had a few drinks, come home, paid and sent the baby sitter on their way.......now they are home, slightly tipsy and by definition, in charge of their children.

Are they supposed to wait outside, until they are completely, legally sober, before going into their own home?

In our society, these things happen all of the time. Unfortunately, other things happen, like people passing out drunk with cigarettes... now in the case of just "tipsy" probably not, but how about being able to respond to some other emergency that might occur?

It may not be against the law, but it probably isn't wise, either....

Beating up on innocent rocks whilst under the influence....
Charged with self battery and amnesia. ---child endangerment

I just don't like kids in bars...whether they are sleeping in a stroller or playing the pinball machine. My ex and I argued about this constantly...she thought nothing of stopping in at the local watering hole with my young son....it was/ is my opinion that children should not be on a first name basis with the local denizens of the the bar.
Of course my opinion is probably influenced by the many 18th birthdays I had while I was 16 or so.....Good Old Dad not only took his children to the pub,but introduces us to drinking....what an asshole.

In California children are not allowed in any establishment that serves hard alcohol unless it is also a restaurant. Children under 21 cannot be seated at the bar, either.

The bottom line with me is we are HUMAN and that has to be a consideration.

Parents are imperfect creatures. Our kids can and do get out of the house when we fall asleep. We lose our tempers and smack the kid on the butt even though it is socially unacceptable. We need contact with other adults and might feel the draw of a local bar. We slip up and cuss at them even though we know they will repeat the naughty word at the most inopportune times. We screw up. We are human.

But what we do is done without malice. What is done is sometimes a means of caring for our own needs while also meeting the needs of our children.

Well no. The busy body failed to render aid in what might have been a critical situation.   Rather then offering to see them home..(how far could it have been?)   He wanted to extract money out of him to a fine by the police.    Maybe the dad was looking at a woman there that the other guy wanted.

We also have to be prepared that if we do leave our homes with our kids, and get legally drunk, and something happens on the way home as a result... we are probably going to be charged with a crime. We may have our kids taken from us, too. And that isn't responsible in my mind.

Yep. And as with ALL of life's issues.......it is ALL TOO EASY to preach at others from our little self built pedestals rather than trying to look at the world from their eyes.

Much like many of the volatile discussions we've had around here lately...

In this country we are very punitive.... if something goes wrong it has to be someone's fault... especially when there is drugs or alcohol involved.

Personally, with a slightly older child I would go and knock down a few beers, but a child small enough to be in a stroller? That implies being an infant to me. Toddlers usually will not remain in a stroller long enough to let you drink a few beers with your friends (at least if you wanna do it in peace)

coulda shoulda woulda.

get your head outta yer ass.  You were NOT there.  quit being a footstool quarterback.

Hunky, over the years I have allowed a lotta slack to you given your self-professed issues..
but here I draw the line.  You are NOT a parent and wont ever be./   Nor am I ever gonna be a parent.  The difference is that I actually listen to my friends that ARE parents.. and I draw on my perceptions as an  adult child of those that had to deal with me as a child and as a teen.

OK, stopping here, because as much as I love the Mods, I do not wish to make them work any harder...
