Ha. There's actually a Tyson processing plant near where I live, they love their undocumented labor and ast I heard, it's still a low-hanging fruit for ICE around here. It's not surprising at all they'd advertise along the border and elsewhere, since they feed heavily off migratory laborers.

Are you near one of those tin shack communities Tyson has created in the middle of the south? I dated a sub from NC years ago who was a court 'advocate' and she used to have to occasionally go into these communities and she was actually fearful.
She complained that that these communities people should not even exist. And some republican elected official had her in for a chat "just checking to see how she liked her job".

Oh REALLY?
Perhaps you can list the highlights of ANYTHING Az or Al has done with their new laws... Surely the traffic stops and id  issue hasn't kept them from enforcing the rest of the statute. So there should be plenty of highlights for you to report. I'll grant you the fact that you're just talking out your ass about Alabama since their law is too young to have a track record.

Indiana's model isnt a good one to follow...

INDIANAPOLIS — Two new state laws in Indiana on the controversial issues of abortion and immigration were blocked by judges in separate cases Friday.

U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker granted a request for an injunction blocking provisions of the immigration law, which was approved earlier this year by Republicans who control the Indiana Statehouse.

Barker called the provisions "seriously flawed."

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana and the National Immigration Law Center had sued the state in May, contending the law gives police sweeping arrest powers against immigrants who haven't committed crimes.

Also Friday, U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt granted an injunction that blocked the parts of Indiana's tough new abortion law that cut off most of Planned Parenthood's public funding in the state because the organization provides abortions.

And YAY! On the PP one!

The Georgia ruling should be soon.

Nah. In the last few years a lot of our migratory laborers have either moved on or settled down for underclass jobs. I think we still get some, but I haven't been around to many commercial farms or such in the last few years and can't speak directly to the subject with a whole lot of authority. My main source of up-to-date information on local immigration issues is second-hand from some decently-connected people. Around here undocumented folks tend to pack themselves into low-rent apartment complexes hit hard by re-urbanization.

Oh yeah, we're weapons-grade stupid here in Indiana. I finally got over the "In God We Trust" license plates, by convincing myself just to regard them as voluntary "shitty driver" identification and not the blatant establishment violation it is. The ACLU-IN has some truly awesome folks in it.

I would not worry about whats on their license plate. I would be more worried about whats in their bills.

Oh, there was a whole legislative and judicial fracas over that. It actually was the latter category which you mentioned that was the heart of it. The skinny is the God plate (or as I refer it, the JAYSUS! plate) was introduced as a specialty plate, but the Indiana assembly decided to classify it as a standard plate so you could get the God plate without having to pay group or administrative fees associated with any other specialty plate (and no other specialty plate has ever been reclassified as standard).

Needless to say, the law was challenged and upheld by the state courts on the same "non-sectarian language" bullshit basis Indiana courts rely on to let facial establishment violations slide by the narrowest possible margin.

Question....

Are you blaming religion for the plates or those in office?

Is it fair to say that one or the other is solely to blame when the problem's caused by a synergistic interaction between the two?

I think laying the blame at one group's feet because the other group is pandering to them may negate the synergism. I dont imagine, if you were to take a poll of the population, many people would care what was on a standard license plate.

~edited to correct..

That should have been "wouldnt care".

Fair point. No question that the State government shouldn't be bending over backwards to accommodate these twats' every halfbaked notion...

So a group of citizens can demand whatever they wish. We elect officials to enforce our laws.... if they bend over backwards in favor of one group over another, then they should be out. Cant blame those wanting the change... everyone wants what they want. I can blame those who claim they know better.

Oh, the plates are very popular in the state of Indiana. The vast majority of citizens either love them or just don't give a damn; I'm among a very small minority who think they have no basis being a "standard" plate, which is what the fracas was over. Still, the popularity of a policy has no bearing on whether it can or should pass Constitutional muster: hell, look at the Prop 8 fiasco.

Then again, I'm one of those hardass atheists who think "in God we trust" is an Establishment violation, as it presupposes a single extant deity for whom there is a mode of worship. That's prior to considering the statement's history and use with singularly, plain Judeo-Christian connotation.

Anyone else notice the following from the article?
"In practice, the new memo won’t make much of a difference because “ICE isn’t deporting people now,” said Jessica Vaughan, an analyst at the Center for Immigration Studies. While pleading limited resources, “they only [deport] individuals with criminal charges,” such as felonies or several misdemeanors, she said."

BTW, check out the the NYTimes for an article on Tyson's bribing of inspectors in Mexico; they did it for years, then went and voluntarily admitted it to the feds.  No one paid a single damn fine.  No one. A few of the guys responsible are still with the company, or managing operations in the same industry at different companies.
