ORIGINAL: luckydawg This is a standard Democrat policy. Clinton dumped oil from the STRATEGIC reseres before his re-election and Gores failed bid. Most conservatives think we should be PRODUCING more domestic oil (lowering both the price and improving our ballance of trade). This is just vote buying. Bush had to replace all the oil in the reserve after Clinton Gore drained it to buy votes. Its wrong. Though It does show that supply does have something to do with the price, which has been denied so many times by the left on here, it isn't even funny... John Adams said it perfectly in a letter to a friend a few years before his death. "You know my feelings against setting up a federal banking system and turning paper into money. For if we do that, we will forever be slave to the speculators." He was exactly right as we see now and have seen since the early 1900's. So to understand your claim, it is OK for the repubs to start two unfunded wars, pass an unfunded vote-buying, clearly pandering, an additional unfunded drug benefit and specifically prohibiting the US govt. from negotiating the lowest prices, pass business-pandering steel and lumber tariffs, pass the largest transportation bill in history with a vote-buying 15,000 earmarks but ...it's not OK for the dems to let out more oil and gas because of inflation purely due to speculation. So it's now to be seen as 'standard dem policy' in this one case but 00-06 is not to be seen as 'standard repub policy' and in several more costly cases. The actual admission of a greater supply of oil/gas is a very dull tool to protect the country from...the speculators who merely speculate on supply and demand that in no way reflects actual current supply and demand. Simply ask yourself, with plenty of oil available...prices rise because of what again ? It isn't even funny and in fact...is a bit sad.
