mnottertail -> RE: 60 Million gallons of gas to be released (6/27/2011 6:53:05 AM)

I know there are many many many people at work in the Bakken Fields.  Some may remember last year when there was a thread here about the acute shortage of housing in western ND.  I don't see it getting better anytime soon.  They are swarming like flies out there.

Interestingly enough, I found out my father bought a share in an oil lease just after leaving the Army-Air Force in '46 or so, and while it is to the west of the assumed Bakken, either I am on food stamps or I am going to chime in voting to take milk away from babies.

Sanity -> RE: 60 Million gallons of gas to be released (6/27/2011 11:09:58 AM)

Thats bull. There is a lot of oil thats relatively easy to get to if the radical environmentalists (like Obama) would just let us get to it, but starving the worlds poor by forcing people to rely on converting crops to ethanol seems to be their top priority.

That college paper is a joke, by the way - but Im sure youre fully aware that its totally rigged. Why is anyone supposed to believe a couple of college kids who obviously have an agenda?  For example, why wasnt even one thing favorable to the oil and gas industry mentioned - such as all the good that is done with the grant money that the industry donates towards environmental causes.

No thanks, you weren't helpful

All the easy to get oil has been pumped or is being pumped. At this point "drill here, there, and everywhere" means drilling for the hard to get oil in environmentally sensitive areas. And we need only look at present drilling technology to know that anydrilling will cause damage to the local environment and the more difficult the oil is to get the more damage will be done.

Look at what the relatively easy to get oil has done to the Mississippi River delta.

You can shit on all the other threads you want, but this is mine. You can either answer my question or you can mosey along.

Bullshit. There is no more easy to get oil. Why would anyone drill under a mile of water for an oil field another 13,000 feet down if there was easier oil to get?

Because all the impact of energy development in the Delta has been negative?

As to college kids:
Jae-Young Ko
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Marine Sciences
Texas A&M University at Galveston

John W. Day, Jr.
Distinguished Professor, Dept. of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences and Coastal
Ecology Institute, School of the Coast & Environment,
Louisiana State University

Maybe next time you should check into the people you are defaming.

Tell that to those who depend on the Gulf economy.

Sanity -> RE: 60 Million gallons of gas to be released (6/27/2011 12:00:15 PM)

I assumed that if they were adults they would have authored a balanced paper, not such a hatchet job as that

My bad...

The sportfishing and commercial fishery industry out there isn't going to need the heads up, they know that already.

I'm sure you can find plenty of examples of environmental extremism by the Kenyan, bearing in mind that shutting down gulf drilling for a couple of months to spite BP and keep the EPA quiet doesn't count.

Since releasing oil from the strategic reserve doesnt do us any good long term it was either to buy votes or it was meant to prop up Obamas failing poll numbers. Either way, it was a political move.

You know, the sort of thing politicians do best, which is give the economy another short term sugar rush as opposed to what it really needs, immediate and long term access to all kinds of plentiful and affordable energy.

And the excuses of the other three Presidents who did the same thing before Obama?

Clinton

After displaying an initial reluctance, President Clinton approved the release Friday of 30 million barrels of oil over the next 30 days from the country's Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an attempt to rein in runaway oil prices.
http://www.thestreet.com/story/1094350/clinton-releases-some-oil-reserves.html

Bush 1

On January 16, 1991, the President announced he would sell 34 million barrels from the Reserve to QUOTE “minimize world oil market disruptions.” That day oil sold for $32 per barrel. The next day, the price dropped by one-third to $21 per barrel. Oil remained in the $20 per barrel range during and after the war.

Bush 2

Seems a pretty bipartisan move.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: 60 Million gallons of gas to be released (6/27/2011 2:15:20 PM)

There were much more severe disruptions of supply in each of those instances. As little as 600 thousand barrels a day have been lost due to Libya. Prices were already coming down. 100% political move.

Maybe it was as balanced as they could possibly make it. can you do one more balanced?

This president makes a mockery of the process by impeding the flow of fossil fuels with the one hand while pretending to open the spigot with the other

He is an absolute hypocrite, if he really wanted to bring energy prices down he would do far more than just release a little il from the strategic reserve

Everything I can find says twice that amount, willbe.

Let me see if I have this straight...this President does something...and let's face it the something can be anything....and Sanity finds it a)hypocritical....b) political(this charge is shocking seeing that he is a ....gasp,politician) and c)disastrous(subset...not enough).Does that about cover the situation ?
Color me shocked, amazed and aghast at the reprehensible behavior of this President....or is it sanity that I am shocked, amazed and feeling all reprehensible about ?
I'm so confused [:)]

You may be looking at their normal net exports, which are around 1.2 million, but some of that is still getting out.

tazzygirl -> RE: 60 Million gallons of gas to be released (6/27/2011 4:20:00 PM)

The number is 1.5

It was? Could you explain how to put a good light on the disappearance of 4000 km^2 of wetlands? The wetlands that served as a buffer between New Orleans and gulf hurricanes? The same wetlands that provided habitat for a lage number of commercially harvested organisms?
