imperatrixx -> Disappointment with Obama (7/2/2011 2:20:41 AM)

I see quite a few posts here laughing about how liberals are disappointed or disillusioned with Obama, and how that's going to ensure Republican victory in 2012.

The thing is though, I think most of the disappointment from people who voted for him is due to the fact that he isn't liberal enough. I don't understand how someone who voted for Obama is suddenly going to turn around and vote for the clusterfuck of GOP potentials making anti-abortion pledges or who claim to want "small government" that bans gay marriage and abortion.

Most liberals are going to vote for Obama. Not because he's great, just because there's no other option. Their disillusionment with Obama's refusal to work for national healthcare isn't going to manifest as conservative thought.

So don't count your chickens before they're hatched...the people who voted for Obama will still vote for him again, if only because comparatively speaking, he's on the "liberal" side of the fence.

Pretty much.

I expected it while he was on the campaign trail. You have to realize that a President is not a dictator. While since the Emergency War Powers Act he does have the power of executive order, he can't just throw them around all day long.

I think those posts may actually be referring to left leaning independents rather than actual liberals. Anything more is wishful thinking on their part, esp since the the repubs seem unable to so much as field a candidate who isn't stupid, a hypocrite, batshit crazy, or a zealot. Better the devil you know, even if he is a disappointment.

That said, if the overall plan is to get the independents to vote repub, it is backfiring badly... at least on this board.

As an independent, I can say that nearly every post that I read from our resident hard 'righties' nudges me a little bit further to the left. Certain folks here are doing their party exactly zero favors.

Come on over to our side. We have pretty red flags and cool anthems and marching songs!

Oh and cool pithy slogans too! "Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains". I mean really now, when is the last time Ann Coulter said anything that quotable?

And we get better weed. [;)]

Wasn't that more a Republican thing when Shrub was still in power? There was a lot of talk about lese majeste whenever he was criticised, and a few of the right leaning talking heads seemed convinced that he was entitled to start filling the white house with purple drapes.

I hate to be the one to break it to you but its doubtful that you could be "nudged" any further left

Youre foaming at the mouth pretty good already

This reflects my own thoughts quite well.

DarkSteven -> RE: Disappointment with Obama (7/2/2011 5:55:13 AM)

Who cares?

Obama will have no serious opposition in the primary, and will get essentially 100% of the Dem vote.  The GOP candidates will winnow to a single candidate, who will get essentially 100% of the GOP vote.  The details of how much of each party will actually vote is something of a factor, but the true decision will be made by the independents.

Polls showing Republicans' dissatisfaction with their current crop of turkeys or Dems' dissatisfaction with Obama are pointless.

Obama has lost the independent vote he needs to win, liberals will continue to vote dem, just as conservatives will continue to vote repub... It's the middle that switches back and forth, and that's who Obama has lost.

Not to mention the college grads who can't find work, Obama appealed to them in 08, but now that they have to move back in with the parents, I hardly think you'll see such fervor, from that crowd.

Yup, don't count your chickens before they hatch.
You shouldn't be worrying about "liberals" or leftists so much but Independants. You don't win elections without Independants. That's the group that everyone wants.
If he was doing a good job the liberals and leftists wouldn't be so worried about 2012 would they?
I'm just wondering what the next war or two after Libya will be about.
Oblunder is taking the country in the wrong direction on a list of things and The People can sense it. You don't get the feeling that he's "our" president.
People will vote not so much "for" the other guy but "against" Oblunder. He makes one pine for the good ole days of Jimmy Carter.

slvemike4u -> RE: Disappointment with Obama (7/2/2011 11:48:59 AM)

So in other words sub rob and popeye completely missed the point of the post.A point ,In case there is doubt,I agree with completely....there are huge numbers of folks who have been, for ack of a better word, disappointed by this President....I was at the inauguration, the first one I have ever attended....the sense of history in the making was palpable. My hopes for a new dawn, would seem today to be evidence of my having drank the koll-aid.
Now here we are 2 1/2 years in to his first term and I am no longer jumping for joy....I have, once again ,been taught a lesson about American politics....politicians willing to lead from the front,to get out in front of public opinion are rare indeed....so yes count me as disappointed
Now let's look at the point popeye and sub rob just can't grasp...I and a great majority of those who voted in 2008 and are now disillusioned are feeling so not because we have all of a sudden realized he is too liberal....we are disappointed because he is not liberal enough, cause he acted like a politician where healthcare is concerned...rather than a great leader. He hose the middle road rather than chance raising the volume on the retoric and jamming single payer thru.
The way I see it the only worry Obama should have where those disillusioned voters are concerned is whether or not they will stay home this time out...they certainly are not going to vote for Bachmann...or Romney...and he'll would freeze over before they vote for a Gingrich or a Huntsman...or anyone else silly enough to sign a pro-life pledge during the nomination proccess.
So the way I see it ....it comes down to Obama's ability this time out to energize the voters and inspire them to actually vote...perhaps the simple knowledge that he will be running in his last election and no longer needs worry about facing the voters can free him to be the President I thought I saw take the oath.

joether -> RE: Disappointment with Obama (7/2/2011 11:53:42 AM)

Depends highly on the GOP candidates. Many of the conservatives hope the 'Generic Republican Candidates' (from the other thread) runs for office, instead of 90% of current crop of GOP hopefuls. Yes, because GRC is totally conservative, says nothing wrong, and is so ideal of a candidate, Ronald Reagan will come back from the dead to say so at a national press conference!

Seriously, many of the independents if they haven't said "Obama is STILL better than anyone in the GOP', are likely to wait a few more months. Unlike conservatives, many independents easily recall WHO got us in to Iraq, and then lies about everything regarding it. Many of them understand that Obama got handled a shit economy by 'fiscal conservatives' who spent 'high on the hog' for eight years. They know, that thanks to Obama, we are not in a Depression. Likewise, many of them know friends and family that are getting help under the American Affordable Care Act. Once a historian explains to them just how this economy of ours got screwed up, they'll draw the lines on their own straight to the folks that were in control of the actions: The GOP Congress.

Likewise, who got Osama bin Laden? You know, the mastermind of 9/11? The guy that killed three thousand of our fellow Americans in one day? The guy the GOP claimed endlessly that they would get, because Democrats were just 'weak on terrorism'? Americans do know WHO got it, and WHO authorized a highly detailed training of the troops to pull of one of the toughest missions in a long time.

Obama no doubtfully has fashioned a plan to get America out of debt (over about 15-20 years), reduce the deficit, get Americans back to work, and keep the nation the 'best place to live' in the whole world. Funny that its been conservatives who have blocked him at every moment, and usually over irrelevant things. The 'Party of No' didn't get its name just for resisting 'here or there' on the budget. The 'Party of No' just for the record help create the wacky, screwed up economy we now have. Their the ones that removed the regulations that kept companies from offering 'loanshark' like deals to unsuspecting Americans who had 'little, no, or bad credit'. Their the ones that allowed the rules to be relaxed on whether a company could secretly jack up the mortages on homes, or get people to sign deals on properties they really had no hope of paying. Their the ones that removed the restrictions that companies have to be honest and truthful to their clients regarding shabby investment deals (i.e. Goldman Sachs and the Dervatives scandal of last year). Their the ones that gave tax cuts to the fithy rich, while increasing the deficit. Their the ones that paid for the Iraq war entirely on borrowed money. They are the ones that allowed a US Debt to go from a 'decreasing' $2 Trillion into an 'increasing' $11.4 Trillion in eight years. On top of that, resisted removing the 'Bush era tax cuts' that would cut significantly reduce the deficit by $900 Billion. They are the ones that block every single effort by economists in the states, the White House, and Democrats to get the nation stable again. Its all there in the history books, independents. Think on that when your at the voting booth.

After all, the GOP has stated they want Obama to fail. And if the nation fails as a result, making Obama look bad, there all for doing it! Does that really sound like a group of people you want ANYWHERE close to the controls and levers of the federal goverment?

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Disappointment with Obama (7/2/2011 12:00:28 PM)

The difference isnt in WHO they will vote for but WHETHER they will vote at all. The disenchanted tend to stay away.
