Touche! Very well said Heather,it was an attempt to put a spanner in the works, maybe I will try to turn it into another thread.
Is putting a spanner etc considered as trolling? Is it not possible to argue against threads that are deemed positive?

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Things I Love About America (7/5/2011 4:38:37 PM)

Yes, of course it is trolling. However, your original post was well executed. You listed the things you "loved" about the US. Sarcasm is an effective tool of trolling. that is why I did not suggest further training for you, you are showing promise.

hardcybermaster -> RE: Things I Love About America (7/5/2011 4:46:19 PM)

Well despite the fact that you suggest that I am talented but clearly out of my league I will continue to try and educate myself on these high quality boards, after all there is only one way to beat the best and that is to compete against them

You see I don't think stating a point of view, which shows the irony of a romantic view of a nation is trolling in any sense. Particularly if that nation is doing many evil things and the people of that nation are allowing it to happen.

What does that have to do with the title of the thread.

Read back and you will see. It is wrong to look at the positives whilst wearing excuses to the negatives.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Things I Love About America (7/5/2011 5:00:03 PM)

Well, I had thought about this for a couple of days and came back to post my list, but since it has all gone to hell, never mind.

Icarys -> RE: Things I Love About America (7/5/2011 5:01:52 PM)

I love too many things about this great land to list but above all is the Constitution and Bill of Rights and potential opportunities that those documents provide chance of having.

I watched the HBO documentary last night from Alexandra Pelosi..despite some parts (I thought) that seemed "staged" or tilted for specific messages in the edits, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was refreshing to hear the views of immigrants becoming US citizens officially and the joys and hopes they have for their futures. It made my heart swell.

I'm proud to be an American regardless of it's troubles.

Of course you are proud to be American, but you wouldn't have all those immigrants if corperate america wasn't raping those countries and leaving them without any hope

The more the merrier.

Wolf2Bear -> RE: Things I Love About America (7/5/2011 5:08:18 PM)

As a Canadian all I will add is:

Grits
Amtrak customer service
Diverse geography and geology
The noticeable differences in the people from state to state.
Hollywood
Walt Disney

Most important is despite what foibles America has, it is a diverse and unique country in itself. I would rather live next to a friendly nation like America than live in a country near another which is in a constant state of turmoil and war within it's own borders.

In the immortal words of Bill Sputnik Spooner:

I'm proud
to be an American
I'm proud
of the groovy things we've done
There's television, free religion, Rock 'n' roll, Standard Oil,
Times Square, Jimmy Darren, Corey Wells, and Smokey Bear,
price reduction, reconstruction, Peace Corps, and lots more
Culture that we got to lend

I'm proud
to be an American
And I'm proud
Had a great time bein' one
There's your school and my school and both of us in high school,
surfboards, cigarettes, homework, Southern Comfort
Boy's dean was real mean,
Made us keep our locker's clean
Failed nearly every class
Ditchin' was a gas

I'm proud
to be a young American
I'm proud, just think about it
All the far out things that we've begun
There's revolution, constitution, land, sea, and air pollution,
cold wars, hot wars, gas wars, and confrontations,
constipation, consternation, open hearted palpitations
Muscular Dystrophy

I'm proud to be an American
Because we got department stores
full of cheap guitars
But when Sputnik plays 'em, you just go go go go

I'm proud to be an American--we got two chickens in every garage
And I wish every other kid could be one--in my country, the medium is the massage
'Cause it's impossible to give
Equality and justice to inferior foreigners
too jealous to trust us

Gimme your weak and your homeless
How 'bout checkin' the oil ah, fella?

I'm proud to be an American

Well that's a weight of your shoulders then.Lucky you for living next to the good old US
