a kitchen maid, a drudge

Damn, that certainly applies to me. I ought to go drudge in the kitchen, but I need to go to the grocery store first.

balking at the concept of the word 'slut' meaning anything other than a woman that will fuck anything with a dick is more than a little silly, IMO.
Especially because I won't fuck anything with a dick. [:D]

Imperatrixx, you missed my point. I was saying the word has no shock value. Words only have the power that the reader/listener gives them. A word can only shock or insult you if you let it. And we have already seen how the word slut can indeed be applied to a person in a monogamous relationship. The strength and greatness of the English language is that it is versatile, it is adaptable, and it is a "living" language in every sense of the word. You prefer to use the word slut in cases where you are referring to only one of it's many possible meanings, but that doesn't negate the other possible meanings.

If words are unable to shock you the you probably don't understand their meaning or are dead from the neck up.

I never understood people that claimed that words only have the power the reader/listener gives to them. It is complete rubbish.

LaTigresse -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/7/2011 8:19:19 AM)

DG...with people like you around, we all tend to become more than a little calloused about words that used to be a lot more shock worthy.

Call me whatever floats your boat. If I don't give you, or the words you use, the power to matter to me in any way, shape, or form........then you are nothing more than pixels on a screen. Kinda like the adults in Charlie Brown. "wha wha wha wha wha whaaa".

Obviously you do allow others, and the words they use, the power to affect you. It is foolish to assume everyone is the same.

. . . Utterly tacky and feral - and completely devoid of style, class, grace and good taste. . . .

I must admit, I'd always assumed that a certain type of dominant would go for the 'princess archetype' (yep, Carl Jung again). In which case it'd come as no surprise that 'slut' would be repugnant to him (or her, if she's a dominant who goes for femsubs). My brother has this view of, and taste in, women. (I don't: I'd rather go for the Wicked Witch than Snow White. But, then, I'm a sub. Each to his or her own . . . .)

Secondly, context is all. A woman I find attractive calling me a 'slut' is going to give me equal mixture of grin and stiffy - but, then, I'm not of the gender that has a long history of unpleasantness in the connotations of that word. At another level re context: there's a right time and place. It's correct that fucking is a bodily function just as is pooping. However, I like to poop in my toilet-bowl and fuck in my bed. The reverse doesn't appeal to me, I have to say.

This would be because you are dead from the neck up. With your two statements so far on this thread you reveal that have no understanding of the psychological functioning of language and how or why a word can be insulting, or shocking, or any other thing.

I am not shocked by this revelation.

I should there are as many men who want their partners to be ladies outside of the bedroom as there are women who want their partners to be gentlemen outside of it.

well, a slut can pretend to be a lady out of the bedroom.. ..as her man fingers her girly bits under the restaurant table... [:D]

kiwisub12 -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/7/2011 1:48:27 PM)

If my sweetie wants to finger my girly bits under the table and doesn't insist i quit eating my steak while he does it, it's fine with me. And yes, outside the bedroom i am (relatively) a lady. I don't curse, drink to excess or carry on with more than one guy at a time. But when i am in the bedroom, i want to be a slut, a wanton woman, a female who enjoys sex and is ok with saying what she wants. I want for sex to be as much fun for me, if not more, than it is for him.

The first time i was called a slut, i had to stop and make sure he didn't mean it in a negative way - and guess what? - he didn't! He was enjoying my body and loving my reactions to what he was doing....................

so............... call me a slut and i will proudly agree, and then go on to prove it.....................

ricken -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/7/2011 3:24:14 PM)

Well, I for one would NEVER call my girl a slut....

She is always to refer to herself in the third person as "Slut" when speaking during our playtime.

Words grow and change as people use them, and what two people agree on may not be the norm and trying to justify the way I may use a word to someone is just a wast of time. I smile when I hear her call me "sick fuck".

I never thought of the word slut as something horrible, to me it's a word that describes a female that really, REALLY, likes sex, when she has it. I guess I have come to realize a long time ago that some of the words used to describe men and women are different, and yes women do get the "bad" words as descriptors. Like the strong, driven women are called "bitches" but most guys are "go getters" or someother nonesuch.

Personally, I like a good bitch that knows when to be a slut...but then again I am a sickfuck

Yup, the more ignorant a society the more it defines itself by its ignorance, fluidity and language though are different to wanton hijacking of a word because it's not liked and actively promoting this meaning to the mainstream or re-branding homosexuals as 'Gays' because it sounds nicer. Not meant as a derogatory statement on homosexuality or homosexual people.

Sigh.... and the more ignorant and arrogant the commentators upon Society become, it seems.

The word slut has, for a very long time, been used, very widely, to describe a sexually promiscuous woman. As has been pointed out, promiscuity is judged (by ignorant jackasses) differently in women when compared to men.

When a woman proudly claims to be a slut, she isn't changing the meaning one bit - and if you were half as clever as you think you are, that would be evident to you. What she is seeking to change and challenge is society's pitifully outdated idea that a woman being a slut is a bad or "immoral" thing.

So let me get this right, wanton women and prostitutes have taken ownership of the word "slut", because they take pride in being wanton women and prostitutes. I am therefore supposed to feel they have empowered themselves and congratulate them on being wanton women and prostitutes? Go Sluts....I suppose...[8|]

Seriously, could you be more dense and inflexible in your views?

Everyone has already stated, very colorfully I might add, that words are subject to interpretation, do not have to be literal and evolve over time.

Take the word application. It is totally different now that we use apps for everything. There is a reason for this change; it is called going with the flow of how the world moves forward.

As for the words slut, cunt, bitch, whore, whatever...again, any word that can be viewed as an insult can also be viewed as a term of endearment or empowerment.

I always say that putting MY in front of those words instantly makes one swoon while some other douchebag calling me a whore just makes me laugh.

Semantics are semantics and however vigourous you are in defending the dictionary, you can still take it easy and just enjoy the new world semantics and not be such a stick in the mud.

I do, However, I imagine the people out here are too dense to understand the meaning of words or think words possess an entirely different meaning than their actual definition.

People should be affected by words. it is our language whether written or spoken. It is stupid and short sighted to suggest otherwise. The people that are chiming in as if they have no impact are being thick. I have seen far too many of you affected by the words from complete strangers to indulge you any further in this charade.

People are routinely affected by they words they read and hear. It's really stupid to suggest otherwise.

domiguy -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/7/2011 5:28:23 PM)

No. Cunt really is not a word of endearment. Words have meanings. If you like being called a cutey patooty lil' cunt...see how well that goes over at your next family reunion.

Words have meanings...try and stick to their actual definitions in lieu of acting fucking crazy.

LadyPact -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/7/2011 5:34:38 PM)

I might actually be half agreeing with you.  At the same time, I'm looking at all of the fuss on this thread over the "wanton" (not a "wonton" as somebody said earlier) woman part of the definition.  Now, that's aside from the 'promiscuous' part.  Guys, even when we are talking about a situation where fidelity is the status quo, don't you want your woman to be "wanton"?  Geez, after hearing guys joke about 'dead fish' in bed that some males talk about their partners, aren't you freaking happy that she's enjoying, relishing what is happening in the bedroom?  No matter which side of the kneel you are on, doesn't it trip your trigger that she's either a slave to your cock or you're a guy who enjoys treated like they are their Domme's piece of fuckmeat?  That you are really, from a primal aspect, lusted over and sexually desired?

Yeah.  I'm thinking I might just be the odd person out on this one.

You and whoever that young girl that you are shacking up with continually choose to let people's words seriously impact your weee little brains. You both post as if you are really stupid. Probably the dumbest couple out here.

Are you illiterate? I said that words have meanings. I never quantified how many meanings they have. Sabe, dumby?

"...Words only have the impact you allow them to"...It's a stupid fucking statement made by stupid fucking people. Why do my words upset you so? I obviously impact you to your very core. You continually spew out shit and never have the ability to back it up or seemingly control yourself.

You continually to let people's words impact you to the point of going off completely half cocked, so words obviously impact you.

You can ignore people all you like, you two obviously choose never to do it. Very few people do. Therefore it makes the statement, "words only have the impact you allow them to" rather absurd especially coming from the likes of you two clowns.

There is a point in life and relationships where you realize that you are addressing or being addressed by a complete waste of space. At those times it is best to ignore such folks. It's not that their words don't have an impact, it is that you simply choose no longer to want to hear them. That is merely shutting someone out.

When you listen to douchebags, such as Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity, their words have an impact. I choose not to listen to them or to the Rush Limbaughs of this world any longer. Their words do have an impact on myself as well as others, I have merely chose to no longer participate in the discussion.

I think, on the whole, people are pretty fucking stupid. They say things that don't make sense, use words out of context and if they only had the ability to sit back they would see the error of their ways and the righteousness of my words and position.

Words will always have an impact.
