Status: offline 		I will not declaw Moki, because not only is the claw removed, but so is the bone that the claw grows out of, basically its a removal of the cat's third toe.

Hunky, there are alternatives to declawing. One is a product called "Soft Paws" or something like that, which are sheathes that fit over the claws. Another is giving the cat a rug or scratch post they really like to scratch. Maggie, my current cat uses an old rug my mom gave her to use. She doesn't claw my furniture at all any more.

Of course there is also keeping the cat's nails clipped, which is the owner's responsibility!

There are plenty of problems owning a cat  brings to the table- like them going to the bathroom in places they shouldn't, meowing at all hours of the night, fighting with other cats and so on.
Turning to mutilation to solve one problem just shows you wont be capable of handling other problems when they WILL crop up.

Exactly!....although those problems won't necessarily crop up. Maggie goes to bed when I do, she curls up at my head and goes to sleep. Unless it's time to be fed she is silent and she always uses her litterbox.

Are you fucking KIDDING me? First of all it's mutilation, secondly there is no problem, Maggie doesn't claw the furniture, she has her own rug to scratch. Why the fuck would I get her declawed?

*cough* uh eh hem,
I am strongly against declawing- I am going to school to be a vet tech(for starters) and it saddens me that depending on the job market I may be forced to join a veterinary hospital where as part of the job I am forced to be involved in such mutilation.
The thought of any cat owner doing it to their pet, especially if it is a full grown cat and thus less likely to psychologically deal well with it, intensely angers me.

Status: offline 		i don't believe declawing is a sound practice. you can get gel caps to stick over your cat's nails (and they can even retract them) to prevent them from scratching. it's amputation of the first joint of their "finger bones;" there's no need for it.
