to the OP -- i happen to like touching, and you're describing something that a friend of mine likes to do. very small touches -- my first reaction is to flip out because it feels like a tickle to me, and i'm RIDICULOUSLY ticklish, but if i'm told to stay still or i just make myself (which is haaarrrrdd) it's a different kind of sensation. it's actually really intense and interesting in its own way.

i don't think i would dig the "proximity" thing as the ONLY thing i did with someone. but as part of an arsenal? sure (my late M did this a few times). when you're blindfolded or experiencing sensory deprivation of some kind, perceiving touch and proximity can be really intense. being aware that someone is very near to you, even though they aren't touching you, or you can't see/hear them -- it's interesting to me.
