I agree, largely with what's been said above. . . a lot more to do with content and method of delivery than tone of voice. One other thought that occured to me though, was back in Drill Instructor school, we spent a significant amount of time working on what the army refers to as "command voice". it's not something that's necessarily loud, or harsh, as a matter of fact, it can be very low in volume, almost a whisper. but it's a distinctive type of enunciation and inflection pattern that gets people's attention almost instantly. And it works, even on those who haven't been specifically trained to respond to it (ie: an unruly bunch of 18 year old knuckleheads, fresh off the bus) I imagine there are sites online that can explain the basics of it. or you could always go and find a retired DI to tutor you ;-)
