So, y'all arent into a deep voice with a slight southern accent?

MasterGreg43 -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 8:09:24 AM)

Giermo let Me add to some of the comments, voice don't make the Dom, but ur demeanor will indeed, one of the most powerful command of attention is a whisper, we are not cops where we need to command authority, but we command the full attention of our submissive what more to do with just a whisper or quiet low voice where the important it full understanding of what is said or extreme punishment should follow then next u speak it will be met with full attention.

sexyred1 -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 8:11:21 AM)

I think that voices, like everything else, are preferences. I prefer a guy with a deeper voice, but it really is what is being said and how it is said that does the trick.

btw, I was half teasing, half fishing above.

If it's a problem for you, then go see a voice teacher and learn how to use it to your best advantage.

I am with Des on this one. My voice is one of my more insidious implements and while I am lucky to have a deep one, it is the way I use what I have that matters. Its nice to be born with the best of whatever but in the end the most important thing is the emotional connection, achieve that and nothing else matters, the mere fact that it is your voice is all that is needed. As an example, I have a very short tongue but most women think it is the most amazing one they have had or at least I get no complaints.

on one hand, i can kinda see what you're talking about. a voice is part of "general attraction" for me, and if a person's voice doesn't attract me, i won't really get into him. likewise, a guy can go from being a "he's nice enough" to a "holy crap, take me away!" by having a voice that makes me feel that way.

I second this notion from LillyBoPeep. A few people have mellifluous voices that are attractive to me (not necessarily deep); a few have voices so annoying that I am repelled. The former have an easier time making things sound good; the latter would be hard-pressed to interest me in anything but the most sublime prose. Most voices are unremarkable so there is no effect good or bad and I focus on their words.

MrRoissy -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 1:28:47 PM)

I agree, largely with what's been said above. . . a lot more to do with content and method of delivery than tone of voice.

One other thought that occured to me though, was back in Drill Instructor school, we spent a significant amount of time working on what the army refers to as "command voice".

it's not something that's necessarily loud, or harsh, as a matter of fact, it can be very low in volume, almost a whisper. but it's a distinctive type of enunciation and inflection pattern that gets people's attention almost instantly. And it works, even on those who haven't been specifically trained to respond to it (ie: an unruly bunch of 18 year old knuckleheads, fresh off the bus)

I imagine there are sites online that can explain the basics of it. or you could always go and find a retired DI to tutor you ;-)

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 1:43:58 PM)

Command voice and command look, I think both are something you can learn, but seriously you won't get far with either unless you have the confidence to back it up.

The more people post, the more silly I feel for ever thinking about it.

imperatrixx -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 4:01:33 PM)

-FR-

Way back when I was single, I talked to this guy online that said he had a strong hypnotic voice...he was really proud of it and stuff. So we talked and I thought his voice sounded silly. All overexaggerated like he was trying out for a B movie Dracula role or something.

Anyway my advice is to forget about it. If you try to change your voice to sound more dominant you'll probably just end up sounding like a twat.

No need to feel silly. It was a great question, and one that I'm
certain many others would have posted had they not been shy.
Think of this as your way of teaching others that currently feel
the same about their voice.

Of course, you have forgotten all about that little hang up of yours, yes? [:D]

First post, thought I start off with a problem I face when being a dominant.

I believe I lack a deep commanding voice. My voice is not high pitched but I feel that a proper voice is needed for making commands. In none of my previous BDSM relationship as this been brought up but it is something that concerns me from time to time.

Thoughts?

UGHHHHH

*bangs head on desk*

Where the fuck do people get these stupid assed ideas that they need to have a 'certain' voice or some other stupid assed shit to be THEMSELVES.

Inquiring minds want to know

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 4:47:10 PM)

no need to feel silly Giermo =p people have a variety of hang-ups and hey, at least you asked instead of running around munches with an obviously fake voice. ^_^ just be yourself, and the rest will work itself out.

Giermo -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 5:00:35 PM)

IrishMist, I can understand your frustration. If you would like an adequate answer, give me time to elaborate a proper response for  my foolish tendency acted out of inexperience. But I cannot speak for others. In the mean time, you can deliver an explanation for your strict concern. Inquiring minds are also curious.  [:)]

Twoshoes -> RE: The Voice of a Dom (7/13/2011 6:55:59 PM)

I think it's actually more entertaining if you have a really sweet, angelic voice asking for really not-so-sweet things.

Personally, Bublé's voice is so very appealing to me. [:)] (Although I'm not submissive.)
