I used to make Salsa X-ni-pek (loose translation: hotter than a dog's nose) at the restaurant. Used to make Pescado Tikin Xik, Papadzules, Pollo Pibil, Tacos Cochinita Pibil, Sopa de Lima (was my favorite Mexican Soup), and occasionally Pavo en Mole Negro (got the recipe from Restaurant El Cenote Azul in Valladolid, Yucatan).

The Xni Pek restaurant had a warning on the menu that their food wasn't particularly spicy but their salsas used real habenaros (sp?). And it was definitely hotter than a dog'snose.

BTW what is it with yucatecan cuisine and radishes? It always strikes me as an odd ingredient for the cuisine.
You know, I don't know. There's a Radish Festival on Oaxaca every December, so it isn't just the Yucatan... there are radish carving contests and radish dolls, all kinds of cool stuff.

The lamb and potatoes Anna at Sant Ambrose on Madison around 78th street.
Juicy dumplings at Shanghai Pavilion on 3rd and 77th. Too damn much work for me to attempt.
Mozzarella in carrozza (sp) at Grotto Azurro in Little Italy.
Duck most anywhere.

One of the great things about living in Korea is that there is a part of town in Seoul where all the foreigners flock (Itaewon, for those in the know).  Small groups of people from one place or another will create authentic X cuisine because they miss home.  Pretty much anything you get there is authentic and yummy.  They all miss they mommies' cooking!  I had a falafel there one time... Have mercy.  I thought I was gonna die!  It was in this little hole in the wall (yes, an actual 6 foot by 9 foot hole) and the food was less than 5 bucks.  The guys were gloriously happy to be doing what they were doing, and the food... ohhh.  *groan*  tears running down my face.  I chose the "not spicy" one.  Ahem. Really.

Now, who will come visit me?

Shorey's homemade pizza.
Location is secret. It's an exclusive clientele.

Truthfully...we don't ever eat at a chain restaurant. We always eat at independently owned.
We've had five star dinners. We've had hole in the wall bar food that was a lot of times equally as good and a hell of a lot cheaper.
We always eat at the bar. Never at a table.

The mac and cheese at the Lucky 13 pub in Philly is divine and we've gone back to Philly more than once just for it.
The figs with gorgonzola and prosciutto with a balsamic glaze at an off the beaten track, Italian restaurant at the shore.
I had an incredible chilean sea bass at a nice restaurant in New Brunswick the night we got tattoos together.
Tamales (I think they were tamales...I was rip roaring drunk) at the Map Room in Chicago with Domi and Jefffff.
Garlic clams anywhere. We can eat dozens.
Oysters on the half shell.
Really good buffalo wings.
Anything from Arthur Ave in the Bronx, especially if there's a Yankee game to follow.
Fish tacos at Motts Creek Inn
I'm sure I'll remember a ton more right after I hit OK.

The best dinner of my life was at Bobby Flay's "Bolo" in Manhattan, but it's gone now.

I'm not hot on major chain restaurants, either.  Best Italian food I've had (that I or someone in my family didn't make ourselves) was at a little place called Luigi's up in the foothills.  I haven't been there in years; not sure it's even there, still.

I like all kinds of food. For Japanese, Mikuni and Taro's nails it. For chinese, there's a place near the Mister's house whose name I can't remember.  La Favorita makes yummy steak tacos but Carmelita's has an incredible fish taco.  Thai Smile has a great papaya salad and various insanely good soups but Sala Thai has curry dishes that'll send you over the edge.

Best cioppino I've had is at Alioto's in SF.  Best clam chowder is at Stagnero's in Santa Cruz.  And the best baby back ribs, aside from the Mister's - Andy's BBQ in SJ. Too far to go, so I do go to a chain for that on rare occasion - Texas Roadhouse.  But OMG Rosie's has the best beef ribs ever, and typically I don't like beef ribs.

Awful Annie's has the best breakfasts in life, although Waffle Barn (another chain) has the best waffles, ever.

The best "discovery" dinner was at a little pub outside Norfolk.  I had She-Crab soup with a Magic Hat #9 beer.

Yeah, I love food. [8D]

OMG ribs and wings. Life doesn't get any better. Well, add an icy cold beer and then you're set.
