Yes, I've visited the site. My impression and opinion of it are quite different from yours. I see it as a site where people relate their experiences in what they see as a "taken in hand" relationship or one they hope to establish. I believe the goal of the site is to help illustrate that type of relationship to others who might find it is the type they may want to pursue. In other words, it's there to inform. The relationships described are, as with any other type of intimate relationship, defined by those involved within the relationship and not those outside of it.

What a lovely, thoughtful post. I enjoyed reading that :)

Taken In Hand relationships are male-led, monogamous relationships. Some (myself included) associate TIH with marriage, not only monogamy. The relationship dynamic is mainly for the benefit of the wife, as far as her own ease and comfort with herself and the world when finally submitting.

These can be, but are not a requirement of, a D/s relationship. Certainly, the dominant personality is not always male. Relationships can involve more than two people, unmarried or otherwise. And, though I would certainly like to think that any Dominant I'm with would have only my best interest and personal growth at heart, or simply as described above, this does not describe all D/s relationships.

So, yes, TIH could fall under the umbrella of D/s, but D/s doesn't necessarily fall under the umbrella of TIH. I can see the value in different terminology to specify the beliefs of this particular group.

Edited to clarify "benefit of the wife" - still not sure I worded it quite right, but have to go work and can't think any more on it.

erieangel -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 5:58:07 AM)

I saw that site and that actually is the type of relationship i am looking for--one where the male has the power in the relationship and "takes me in hand".

LillyBoPeep -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 6:56:53 AM)

i wouldn't "LMFAO" at TIH any more than i would do it at people into BDSM with fetishes i don't understand.
TIH sounds just as reasonable as any other kind of power exchange relationship; the only reason i don't particularly subscribe to it is that whatever i've read about it seemed based in gender-specific ideology and "feminine vs. masculine" rhetoric.
TIH emphasizes monogamy and marriage, which is important to some people; many of those people also feel that they are unimportant concepts to most people into BDSM, so they choose not to identify with it. also, many of them are turned off by the fetish aspect.
there's a couple in our community who are both M/s and TIH, and they are two of the people i look up to the most. they've embraced something that's very natural for them and that makes them happy. no reason to "LMFAO" at that.

erieangel -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 7:32:31 AM)

I my opinion, laughing at something you don't understand or don't agree with is the height of ignorance.

littlewonder -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 7:36:33 AM)

I've seen the site. I never saw it as funny but quite the opposite. I liked a lot of things on the site and some things I didn't like. I took what I liked and left the rest. I saw the site simply as expressing their desire for an old fashioned traditional male led household like my parents and grandparents had.

DesFIP -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 7:48:16 AM)

It's too aggressively Christian for me to find it attractive.

There is that, which I don't like. I like the control aspects of TIH but that's about it.

Do you like it when people laugh at you and ridicule your needs? Why is it acceptable to do that to others Taken in hand would not suit me as I am not a Christian, but that does not mean I think it laughable for those who would be fulfilled by such a relationship.

You could do with a dose of tolerance... it is against the TOS to ridicule other people's kinks and/or relational orientations (whether gay, straight, dom, submissive, switch, etc etc etc

LadyPact -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 11:36:05 AM)

I haven't been to the site, but that really has nothing to do with My stance on the matter.  I would just see it as another version of other people's kinks being different than Mine and therefore I would have the courtesy to accept the fact that it works for them.  It may not be for Me, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to laugh at it anymore than I would when people have different lives here than I do.  Even I'm not that smug.

Hillwilliam -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 11:37:26 AM)

Just because it's not MY kink doesn't make it wrong.

I have no idea what an 'area dom' is but I have no problem with TIH. It's not my thing but, obviously, it is the thing for a lot of folks. More power to 'em for finding their bliss.

I do, often, laugh at folks who use slashy speak in T/their typing though. It's just so silly.

Savvy?

I agree with Bita about the slashy speak. I also agree with the OP, that the person writing the rape roleplay article was basically a Dom who didn't want to be associated with whatever negative connotations the word has in his mind.  I would like to point the OP to this thread, where he will find 6 pages of discussion on this same basic topic.

Sooooooo.........you saw something that doesn't fit you and your life and decided to make a fool of yourself here by making fun of it?

How would you like it, if after viewing your profile, I came here and started a thread (yes I know it is against TOS) for the sole purpose of making fun of everything I find silly, repulsive, whatever......about your profile and the photos it contains?

I reckon you would have a right hissy fit and want it removed ASAP now wouldn't you?

imperatrixx -> RE: LMFAO (7/19/2011 2:14:49 PM)

Oh and trust me there is soooooooo much to make fun of in that profile.

kalikshama -> RE: LMFAO / takeninhand (7/19/2011 4:42:35 PM)

What I found funny about takeninhand.com/personal.ads

A. The high barrier to entry :
(1) a substantial article (at least 1000 words) about what you want in a Taken In Hand marriage;
(2) a substantial Taken In Hand article (at least 1000 words) for the front page of this site.

B. The hypocrisy:
Anything that would be suitable for a BDSM or spanking site will be immediately deleted.

[Many of the articles are totally suitable for BDSM]

juliaoceania -> RE: LMFAO / takeninhand (7/19/2011 4:47:13 PM)

So you are basically saying that the owners of that site's lack of respect for BDSM and their ignorance about D/s relationships justifies ridiculing people who want TIH as a relationship structure?
