Well he has a point. Even if some guy is smoking his entire welfare check, that's not going to be more than $20k a year. Someone like Bernie Madoff had the capability to hurt thousands of people.

On the flip side, the rich have much more power to help people as well. But when they go bad...it's bad.

Was that his point though?  Sure, Madoff destroyed people.  He was ruthless and he came into people's lives as the trusted adviser, the brilliant and avuncular investing genius and then he was revealed as a Judas.

omg yes, I loved that :)

"Just making stuff up" summarizes it pretty well. Really, American politics is so disturbing these days, it hurts if I think about it too much...it's like I'm feeling the pain of America as it gets stabbed, raped and spat on.

I know a lot of conservatives would say my ideals are spitting on America, but that's not what worries me. If Washington were to have an honest debate about, say, the merits of national healthcare, I'd be so fucking proud. A debate that called in experts to project the results of the system, that was based on figures, that worked to find solutions...instead of getting this fucking mockery of "Obama wants death panels to determine who can live or die" and then going around and talking about cutting medicare...what, so the market can determine who can live or die?

It's so incredibly depressing. I can't imagine the future of the US as anything good. And I normally have a very good imagination.

Bernie Madoff hurt rich people (you know, those powerful rich fucks ya all dont like). To invest with him a person had to be an accredited investor and have a good sized net worth and/or a big income. About half of Madoff's investors were "net winners," earning more than their investment.

why would you care if someone rich hurts someone else rich? the expectation by the govt is that rich people are astute and can take care of themselves.

I dont necessarily think someone with money and power & with the capability to help people is a good person. Gates has money, he even has some charities, i dont personally see him as a particularly good person tho.

but it doesnt mean that they will do good works. Someone coming up with a great idea can do a lot more, imo, like the concept of Habitat for Humanity, and micro-loans.

Except for a few that do give in a serious way, imo, most very rich people are tightwads and very stingy. I know The Donald gives to a few charities but the guy it a total tightwad nonetheless. When you look at the pitance he gives, he doesnt do that unless he gets several times over in free pr and other benefits back. He is one of the tightest tightwads out there but pretends to be generous cuz its just not good PR to appear to be a rich, uncharitable tightwad real estate developer.
