...will all of the collar me posters join me in utterly and without reservation condemning Glenn Beck for this appalling comment?

JstAnotherSub -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 6:18:12 PM)

He is such a moron, I can't imagine anyone taking him seriously. I will join you in your condemnation though.

Lucylastic -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 6:31:44 PM)

he is a crazy pus sucking fuck pig who unfortunately has way to many supporters who will believe his drivel as truth.

No.

What he actually said (according to your link) was:

"There was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like the Hitler youth, or, whatever. I mean, who does a camp for kids that's all about politics. Disturbing,"

The reason that I will not condemn what he said is:

1. I've not made an evaluation - personally - of Norwegian politics and how this particular party trains it's youth.

2. He did not call the political party youth group "Hilter Jugend", he simply said that it was disturbing, and that it "sounds a little like" that.

Based on what little I've read from Norwegians, there does appear to be some unusual aspects of this party's training of their youth.

Whether it rises to the level of Hitler Jugend is still in question. Disturbing?  Certainly different from the general US experience, but I don't know about the Norwegian experience.

Condemning Becks comments based on what you suppose he meant (rather than what he said) and based on a lack of detailed knowledge of the Norwegian political system and culture isn't something I'd be willing to do.

Although I suspect we have plenty of mind-readers who will be more than willing to condemn him anyway.

The Guardian's take on it was slightly simplistic below the byline:
quote:

According to the Guardian “Glenn Beck, the rightwing US broadcaster and Tea Party favourite, has compared those who were massacred on the Norwegian island of Utøya to the Nazi party's youth wing.”

While the Telegraph heading was similar, it stated slightly more modestly below the byline
quote:

Beck said that the Labour party youth camp on the island, where 68 people were murdered, bore "disturbing" similarities to the Nazi party's notorious juvenile wing.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/norway/8660986/Norway-shooting-Glenn-Beck-compares-dead-teenagers-to-Hitler-youth.html

Having said that I still think the remark was a bad move for Beck. Children's political camps are weird but it would be hypocritical if he also supports the Tea Party Childrens camp. Some may suggest he was in some way legitimising the attack, and will use it as another reason to beat conservatives. It would be interesting to hear more of the context of the overall conversation about the terrorist attack.

And the tea party has summer camps in several states where kids are taught "tea party ideals", but it seems you and Buck conveniently have forgotten about that disturbing trend.

After the Right invented the "right to tell lies" over Fox-TV, and the "right to blame our political enemies for whatever we like" (see the Media and Oslo thread), we now have wingnuts insisting on the "right to be a hypocrite".

I suppose it's a natural regression. What should one expect from the looney Right except lunacy?

I found Beck's remarks appalling. It's despicable to smear victims at the best of times. Given the horrors in Norway, Beck's remarks expose him as a moral vacuum, an pathetic nobody deserving only contempt.

slvemike4u -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:10:04 PM)

Yeah, this is real easy.Beck is a fucking asshole....that's about all the time on want to waste on this douchebag.

Actually, if you went back and read the actual court case involved with the "telling lies" in the media issue, you'll discover that this was a well established mainstream media position.

But you only wish to attribute that concept to Fox ... which is either an example of deception or ignorance on your part.

But certainly a partisan position on your part, either way.

TheHeretic -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:23:47 PM)

Can I just go with condemning Beck as an asshole in general?  Though I wouldn't go with the Hitler Youth comparison, the whole "young whatevers" indoctrination camps certainly have an authoritarian, cultish scent about them.

dudd -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:30:02 PM)

I vote no.

slvemike4u -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:30:53 PM)

Well you are moving in the right direction when you can recognize that Beck is an asshole [:)]
Were my ideological bent to lead me to the defense of such scum....I just might reevaluate that ideology.

thinking is not allowed!

This little troll thread was supposed to instill a lake of tears to bash beck circumstances not withstanding!

Now last I heard on the larger picture that this guy was having palestine over for lunch.

Seems that pissed someone off.  Cant imagine who would be pissed off about that?

Then it took the cops over 90 minutes to get there?  Nother ever goes right when something happens.  Does not matter which country its in.

The cameras failed, the 400 billion dollar defense system failed, cant find a boat, cant find their asses whatever...   where have we heard this before.

personaly I think they should melt down every damn gun in the world then then knives, then fertiliaer, then pipes, then steel, the when all else fails and it will people!

Nice to see one person out here actual thought about it rather than just puking all over the keyboard.

TheHeretic -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:37:05 PM)

Well, if you want to jump on board, you've got a wide variety of leftwing assholes you can call out, Mike.  Or would you prefer to hang with the crowd that says Maher and his panel are just creating comedy when they laugh about raping people whose politics they don't like?

FirstQuaker -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:40:34 PM)

Beck got it backwards, the German National Socialists modeled their youth camps and programs with their Nazi 'improvements' on Scandinavian youth camps and groups that had been in operation long before Hitler was born.

slvemike4u -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:44:10 PM)

Damm Rich, you mean he is not a comedian ?
Sorry, but I happen to like Maher..and I hae the ability to recognize comedic hyperbole when I hear it.Comparing Maher act to Beck or Limbuagh is,in my mind, silly. Why don't you throw Colbert and what's his name(senior moment) in there too.

Real0ne -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/25/2011 7:44:58 PM)

oh come on musims were deemed evil by th eus guv so they are evil what the hell.

the us wasted upwards of a million of them, whats a little genocide here and there?  I mean you know as long as it not hitler in all?
