Thats some good news, I thought it was the declaration of rights of the Queen.

(you know, Helen Mirren)

The DOI is not what people generally think.

it is a declaration of expatriation.

Once upon a time you could expatriate from one system and create another or simply be left alone.

today there is no place to go in the world, you expatriate from one shit pile and wind up in another.

basic entrapment.

Helen Mirren?
Surely you mean the late Freddie Mercury...

FR

....didn't really expect such a long thread. My threads usually die in half a page.

First off, according to Godwins Law, Beck automatically loses.......however let's table that for now.

The camp in Norway most definitely had a political context. It wasn't indoctrination classes from dawn till dusk, but even if the piece of paper with the days events on it had the logo of the party organising on it.....it was political.

However, this is nothing remarkable. As has been pointed out, the Tea Party have similar events, as do churches, even the Boy Scouts can be seen as a somewhat political entity.

One could make a reasoned case against all such activities, i wouldn't agree, but such a case could be made. However that wasn't the point of the thread. The point is that Glenn Beck made a comparison between this camp and the Nazis. Don't split hairs. Even if you can pick apart the sentence and argue that, semantically, no comparison was made, you'd be disingenuous.

Beck juxtaposed the camp where kids were shot, killed and terrorised by a right wing extremist with Nazi youth camps.

Seriously guys.......how difficult is it to condemn such an appalling comparison?

Moonhead -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/26/2011 12:38:59 PM)

Apparently very difficult for some on here.

Philo, here's my problem.

This use of the Nazi meme is a stock weapon in the left's political arsenal.  Rarely do I see anyone on the left condemn this usage or technique (yes, I believe you have, and perhaps one other poster that I am aware of).

Yet, here we have just a slight, cautious suggestion that the political orientated Youth Training Camps by political parties may be disturbing, and have give "a little" reminder of the HJ ... and the lefties go ballistic?

When so many lefties stop being hypocrites, then I'll start worrying about it.

You've still yet to produce any citations besides Beck and some armed Norwegian paranoid that these are "politically orientated Youth Training Camps", of course. You should probably address that if you want to act hard done by over inconsistency.

"Jesus Camp"

quote:

Jesus Camp is about the "Kids On Fire School of Ministry," a charismatic Christian summer camp located just outside Devils Lake, North Dakota and run by Becky Fischer and her ministry, Kids in Ministry International. The film focuses on three children who attended the camp in the summer of 2005—Levi, Rachael, and Tory (Victoria). The film cuts between footage of the camp and a children's prayer conference held just prior to the camp at Christ Triumphant Church, a large charismatic church in Lee's Summit, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City...

Fischer is shown preaching a sermon where she mentions Harry Potter and claims that had he existed in biblical times, he "would have been put to death".

In one scene shot at Christ Triumphant Church, a woman brings a life-sized cutout of George W. Bush to the front of the church and has the children stretch their hands toward him in prayer...

[In the film] Fischer explains that she does not believe that people are able to choose their belief system once they pass childhood, and that it is important that they be "indoctrinated" in evangelical Christian values from a young age. Fischer also explains that democracy is flawed and designed to destroy itself "because we have to give everyone equal freedom."...

In November 2006, Fischer announced that she would be shutting down the camp due to negative reaction towards her in the film.

Somehow I don't believe the camp in Norway was anything like this one in the United States.

Watch the film's trailer at http://freedocumentaries.org/int.php?filmID=226

Quite a disturbing film that. It was on the Beeb a few years back.

You are the one claiming that they aren't, and I have already asked you for your sources.  Then you blew me off and insulted me.

I think the quality of your arguments and sources are self-evident to any reasonable person.

You made the claim.  You support it.  Failure to do so makes it own argument.

However, I will advise you that you'll end up looking pretty silly if you wish to continue to insist that the camp had nothing to do with politics.

Firm, the LEFT refers to the right as Nazis?  ON WHAT FUCKING PLANET?   It is common practice for Beck, Limbaugh AND FOX news to use the term Nazi to describe liberals.

Talk about rewriting history, boy you sure have taken the cake on that one.

Moonhead -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/26/2011 1:27:23 PM)

Actually, you came out with a bizarre hypothetical strawman debate about percentages instead of asking anything coherent or constructive.
You find something that's worth arguing with, and I'll argue with it.

Marc2b -> RE: After the shock, here come the crazies.... (7/26/2011 1:28:00 PM)

It is appalling that a person could be so bereft of connection with their fellow humans, so consumed by anger and hatred that they could even conceive of such an attack, much less carry it out. I can only hope that whatever gods there may be will bring comfort to the victims and their families and… a really intense learning experience… to the perpetrator.

It is appalling that anyone could be so consumed with such an “us versus them” mentality that they would insinuate that the victims somehow are to blame or are less worthy of our sympathies because of who they are or what they believe. I think that people like Beck, regardless of which side of the political divide they are on, are not capable of making any kind of human connection to the victims. There is no empathy there. The insinuation may even be unconscious; a result of an automatic kickback of “thought” (actually, emotion) that stems from an inability to fully humanize the other.

It is appalling that the only meaning the lives of the murdered will have for so many of us is to be fodder in political shouting matches/ego stroke offs.

I continue to be an optimist. I continue to hold out hope for the human race. In the meantime, though, the whirligig goes on.

I was listening to Jeff Kuhner on the radio last night and he was talking about this.
He said, "try and find a Jew in Gotheberg or Malmo Sweden, try and find a homosexual in Amsterdam.
You can't, radical islam has has scared them out."
Radical islam has become the new Ku Klux Klan only with a new sub set of victims and the Left the neighbors who , "didn't see anything."

Ok, here's an easy word association game for you, you shouldn't have to guess; "Al qeada training and terrorist camp in Pakistan."
What do you see, a field full of flowers?
A big box full of teddy bears?

he's not been to Amsterdam, obviously.
You'll be saying all the poofs have vanished from Canal Street since the UK bowed down to dhimmitude next...

Your propensity to be led around by unknowing horses asses is showing.  Scandinavia at large is not one of the first countries you are gonna wanna think of for racism, or for having the ass at people who practice the jewish religion.

In Sweden today there is a Jewish population of approximately 18,000 out of a population of 9 million. Stockholm, Sweden’s capital, boasts the largest Jewish community. There are also Jewish communities in Malmo, Goteborg, Boras, Helsingborg, Lund and Uppsala. The Jewish community is composed of mainly pre-war refugees and Holocaust survivors and their descendants.
All of the denominations and Jewish communities are linked to the Official Council of Jewish Communities in Sweden. Swedish Jewry is active in international Jewish welfare activities. There are branches of the WIZO, General Organization of Jewish Women, Emunah, B’nai Brith and B’nai Akiva in Sweden.
There are synagogues in Stockholm (2 Orthodox and 1 Conservative), Goteborg (1 Orthodox and 1 conservative) and in Malmo (1 Orthodox synagogue). Jewish cemeteries can be found in Goteborg, Gotand, Kalmar, Karlskrona, Karlstad, Larbro, Malmo, Norrkoeping, Stockholm and Sundsvall.
The Jewish community of Stockholm has a primary school, kindergarten, Judaica House, communal library, a bi-monthly publication (Judisk Kronika) and a weekly Jewish radio program.
