discrimination of all types is alive and well everywhere. only the political correctness factor has changed. used to be perfectly normal to openly discriminate and be racist or sexist or whatever. now it's still there, ppl just don't say as much about it.

Hey, sorry. I'm just tired. But some of you folks make me even more tired with such nonsense sometimes.

In any event, don't jump to such quick conclusion in pronouncing me 'Mr. Angry-Pants.'

As we speak, I am trying on various trousers in hopes that LucyLastic, after way too long consideration, might thwack her special stamp saying "LL's Mr. Angry-Pants" from ink pad  to ...

I'm sorry, where were we?

Hey, no issues in any case.

Democrat Senators organized the record Senate filibuster of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Included among the organizers were several prominent and well known liberal Democrat standard bearers including:
- Robert Byrd, current senator from West Virginia
- J. William Fulbright, Arkansas senator and political mentor of Bill Clinton
- Albert Gore Sr., Tennessee senator, father and political mentor of Al Gore. Gore Jr. has been known to lie about his father's opposition to the Civil Rights Act.
- Sam Ervin, North Carolina senator of Watergate hearings fame
- Richard Russell, famed Georgia senator and later President Pro Tempore

The complete list of the 21 Democrats who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 includes Senators:

- Hill and Sparkman of Alabama
- Fulbright and McClellan of Arkansas
- Holland and Smathers of Florida
- Russell and Talmadge of Georgia
- Ellender and Long of Louisiana
- Eastland and Stennis of Mississippi
- Ervin and Jordan of North Carolina
- Johnston and Thurmond of South Carolina
- Gore Sr. and Walters of Tennessee
- H. Byrd and Robertson of Virginia
- R. Byrd of West Virginia

I do love the “false equivalency” arguments (taking two different things and claiming they are exactly the same to justify an action or position):

Senator Robert Byrd, when a young man, was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Despite the fact that he publically renounced the Klan and it’s doctrines and worked for civil rights for most of his later life, because he had once been a Klansman and later became a leader of the Democratic Party - all Democrats are white supremacist racists and are in 2011 (to quote popeye1250 from Page 2 of this discussion) “The Party of the Klan”?

President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation during the American Civil War over a hundred years ago. Despite the fact that many white supremacist racists left the Democratic Party in 1948, formed the Dixiecrat Party and later joined the Republican Party and achieved positions of leadership within the Republican Party (i.e. Strom Thurmond) – all 2011 Republicans are totally unprejudiced and unbiased and love all Americans who are Black, Hispanic, Asian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, openly kinky, non-Protestant Christian or atheist?

Anti-Bush protestors called President Bush and Vice-President Cheney “Nazis” - so calling President Obama a “Kenyan”, a “baboon”, a “closet Muslim” and a "half-White usurper of the Presidency" is acceptable?

The late writer Molly Ivans called President George Bush “Shrub” - so calling President Barack Obama “Obumma” is acceptable?

It is a documented historic fact that, in the 1920s, the state of Indiana had the largest membership of Ku Klux Klansman in the United States – but does that mean that the Klansmen who bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963 killing several black children are somehow not as guilty of murder - because the bombing wasn’t in Indiana?

In Jasper Texas a Black man, James Byrd, Jr., was dragged behind a truck by three White Men and died – but that’s okay because some Black man in Harlem called a White man a “honkey” last week?

History lesson part II.

This is why Thurmond and other "dems" left the democratic party.

And what party did they join?

You're not really claiming you can do math again? I thought this was settled when I proved you couldn't do basic multiplication.

Whereas for Ms Lucy I will model the longer black leather variety, high cut, just above ankles (sorta like the 'mods' used to wear), and no yodeling.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/06/30/the-tea-party-stormfront-or-more-blatantly-racist-tea-party-members-whom-the-tea-party-wont-denounce/

The Tea Party Stormfront or ‘More blatantly racist tea party members, whom the tea party won’t denounce'.

Look, I get it. Tea Party members are not all white nationalists, and vice versa. Isn’t it interesting, though, that out of all the political groups, white nationalists want to infiltrate the Tea Party? Stormfront.org promotes David Duke videos, and sells them, through their website. Tom Metzger, the leader of W.A.R (White Aryan Resistance), is a frequent guest on Hal Turner’s radio program which you can access through Stormfront.org. Hal Turner, by the way, is a friend of Sean Hannity. Or at least, used to be until people figured out who he was, and Hannity “denounced” him.

Why are white nationalists so damn interested in a group that claims it is not racist? Why are there thousands of photos of racist signs and tee shirts, taken at Tea Party rallies all over this country? Why is Grady Warren allowed to promote himself as a spokesperson for the Tea Party? Why are the people who run the Tea Party silent on this? If it were me, and I ran a group that was being infiltrated by a hate group, and there was some moron claiming to speak on behalf of my group who was a racist and a buffoon, I’d speak up. I’d issue press statements, I would state, unequivocally that none of these people are representative of MY group. And I would say it over and over again. I would have security gently remove people from rallies with my group’s name attached to them who carry racist signs or wear racist shirts. I would do everything in my power to distance my group from overt racism. I don’t see or hear that. What I see is one email that stated that because the PR firm representative did not personally know Grady Warren, he could not denounce him.

We had a black class president in 1966.  Minnesota is a like 98% scandinavian state. We didn't think anything untoward at the time, and still dont I dont suppose.  Minnesota, and Fergus Falls survived it, and sorta like our black us president currently, he didnt do anything too stupid and he survived as well, as we all did, and nobody who wasnt class president was too stupid and survived.

Ja, I just don't get it.   But I guess it is a dose of reality for the girl, in the world at large..............
I didn't know this. You mean, we have a whole state filled with tall, hot looking men, I didn't know about?

http://gopcapitalist.tripod.com/democratrecord.html

I do remember and the list you quoted backs up what I said.

A group of Democratic Party legislators from the Southen states opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The ones who remained in the Democratic Party later renounced their previous opposition to Civil Rights and worked, later, to improve Civil Rights.

The ones who never renounced their previous opposition to Civil Rights and continued to fight against Civil Rights left the Democratic Party and joined the republican Party.

The racists who repented stayed Democrats, the racists who refused to repent became Republicans.

Therefore, the 2011 "Party of the Klan" is the Republican Party, not the Democratic Party
