Some can. Very few though. Through regular email, those very few add up to a whole bunch of people, but even then they are a very small percentage of the population. Those with that kind of skill can be dangerous.

However in dealing with anything that has to do with CM, I'd bet you can't get anything without cooperation of the site. Uninformed or harboring ulterior motives, this is the basis of the OP's allegation. I find it near impossible to believe that CM would even be complicit in any violation of members' privacy. Within the present scope of events I find two possibilities. One is that the OP has some knowledge, but just enough to be dangerous.

The other is the the OP has an ulterior motive, and judging by the post(s) and other correspondence that motive is one of malevolence to this site. You would be surprised how many people are fucked in the head enough to do this for their own personal fulfillment. What's more many would be surprised how many have some notion of actual gain by partaking of these actions. You have to know people to understand this. Like the sort of people who will sit down and write a computer virus. What impels them ? It is either profit or being fucked up in the head.

Sometimes both.

I think she just got a lot of "Ha, I made you look!" attention to her profile in which she maligns CM and touts another site.
I think she set up being followed and being the victim as a scam and there is no harm here, real or otherwise.

I think she needs to take down the allegations as a remedy was offered promptly and she also always had the option to make her twitter profile private.
Not doing so leaves her open for all sorts of legal recourse.

Hannah, you can go through proxies and all that, but if they do mean business, they can find you, it just depends how much time they think it's worth investing. I don't use "twitter", I don't use those portable phones that everyone has these days. I have some credit cards that can't be associated or traced to me.
When joining groups I always use a different birthday
I'm so "low - tech" that the high tech crooks wouldn't be able to find me anyway.
When I get someone online trying to get info out of me I always give them a phony name, age, height, weight, birthday, ss number, and sex so anything they think they're "getting" is totally worthless.
"I'm a 25 year old very attractive lady who lives alone at... and doesn't own guns."
You should design a really bad virus and send it to those pricks.
